It specifies requirements for2

    6、4V type S (supplementary) electrical connectors between towing vehicles and trailers and is based on ISO3731:1980 “Road vehicles Electrical connections between towing vehicles and trailers with24V electrical equipment Type24S(supplementary)”, published by the International Organization for Standardi

    7、zation (ISO). Connectors manufactured in accordance with this standard are interchangeable with those made in accordance with ISO3731, but the standards are not identical. This standard differs from ISO3731 in that contact f is designated as failure warning and contact j is designated as switched po

    8、wer supply, to make provisions for the method preferred in the UnitedKingdom for wiring trailer brake antilock systems. Performance in accordance with BSAU194 is also specified. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are

    9、responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BSAU198:1984 BSI 02-2000 1 1 Scope This BritishStandard specifies requirements for sockets and plugs of type24S which will permit electrical connections

    11、between towing vehicles and trailers with24V electrical equipment. NOTE 1These sockets and plugs are not interchangeable with type24N (normal) sockets and plugs (seeBSAU197). NOTE 2The titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 General 2.1 Number o

    12、f contacts. There shall be seven contacts designated as follows: e common return; f failure warning; g reversing light; h power supply; i sensing device with common return; j switched power supply; k rear fog light. 2.2 Arrangement of contacts. The arrangement of contacts shall be as shown inFigure

    13、1 and Figure 2. 2.3 Socket. The socket shall be mounted on the rear of the towing vehicle in the case of a road train. It shall be mounted on the semi-trailer in the case of an articulated road train. The socket shall be provided with six contact pins(f to k) and one spring tube(e) corresponding to

    14、pin e of the plug. All contacts shall be insulated. NOTEAfter fitting, contact e may be connected to the common return of the vehicle. The internal diameter of tube e shall be such that the corresponding pin of the plug can be connected with a moderate push, but it shall ensure a good electrical con

    15、tact. Each rear terminal shall be capable of receiving two conductors of1.5mm 2 minimum cross section. The contact designations shall be permanently marked on the inside of the socket cover and on the terminal face in symbols not less than2mm high. NOTEThese symbols, which need not be numbers, may d

    16、iffer from those indicated inFigure 1, provided that the specified pin locations of the different functions are complied with. The socket shall be provided with a splashproof cover which shall close automatically when the plug is disengaged. The hinged cover on the socket shall be provided with a lo

    17、cking lug to retain the plug when it is engaged. All metallic parts of the socket shall be made of corrosion-resistant material or shall be protected against corrosion. 2.4 Plug. The plug shall be mounted on the trailer in the case of a road train and on the towing vehicle in the case of an articula

    18、ted road train. The plug shall be provided with six spring tubes corresponding to pins f to k, and one contact pin(e). The internal diameter of tubes f to k shall be such that the corresponding pins of the socket can be connected with a moderate push, but they shall ensure a good electrical contact.

    19、 Each rear terminal shall be capable of receiving one conductor of2.5mm 2 minimum cross section. The contact designations shall be permanently marked on the terminal face in symbols not less than2mm high. NOTEThese symbols, which need not be numbers, may differ from those indicated inFigure 2, provi

    20、ded that the specified pin locations of the different functions are complied with. All metallic parts of the plug shall be made of corrosion-resistant material or shall be protected against corrosion. Means of fixing and sealing the cable shall be provided. 2.5 Allocation of cable colours. The cable

    21、 colours of the seven-core connecting cable shall be allocated to the different circuits as shown inTable 1. Table 1 Allocation of cable colours 2.6 Distinguishing marking. A light and permanent colour shall be used for at least the insulating parts of the24S connector, to distinguish it from the24N

    22、 connector. NOTEBS AU197 specifies that the24N connector is a dark and permanent colour, preferably black. 2.7 Dimensions for socket and plug. The dimensions for the socket and plug shall be as shown inFigure 1 andFigure 2. The clearance dimensions around the socket and plug assembly shall be as sho
