8、1996 Foreword This British Standard has been prepared by Technical Committee MHE/8 and is a revision of BS 4680 : 1971 Specification for clothes lockers, which is superseded and withdrawn. The range of widths and depths of locker sizes has been increased to agree with the wider range of lockers now

9、manufactured. The testing requirements have been expanded to ensure that lockers made in compliance with this standard will be sound and durable. Lockers are manufactured in other materials and to other dimensions, for example to fit a particular installation. Such lockers do not conform to this sta

10、ndard and should be the subject of agreement between the manufacturer and purchaser. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. BSI 1996 1 BS 4680 : 1996 Specification 1 Scope This British Standard specifies requirements for the overall dimensions,

11、materials, fitments, finishes and type performance testing of three types of clothes locker used for industrial and commercial purposes. It does not apply to lockers designed for special applications. Lockers which conform to this standard will give satisfactory service in their intended environment

12、. However, failure may result as a consequence of service abuse, habitual misuse or an excessively long period of service. 2 Informative references This British Standard refers to other publications that provide information or guidance. Editions of these publications current at the time of issue of

13、this standard are listed on the inside back cover, but reference should be made to the latest editions. 3 Definitions For the purposes of this British Standard the following definitions apply. 3.1 locker A storage compartment with its own fastenable door. 3.2 unit One or more lockers, arranged verti

14、cally, contained within the overall dimensions specified in clause 5. 3.3 initial unit A unit with two sides. 3.4 extension unit A unit with one side; the open side is fixed to the initial unit or to the previous unit in the nest. 3.5 nest A series of initial or initial and extension units fixed sid

15、e by side. 3.6 general duty locker A locker which is designated as suitable for use in well supervised environments such as schools, colleges, hospitals and light industrial environments. 3.7 heavy duty locker A locker which is designated as suitable for use in poorly supervised or industrial enviro

16、nments. 4 Information and requirements to be agreed and to be documented 4.1 General The following items to be agreed between the contracting parties, which are specified in the clauses referred to, shall be fully documented. Both the definitive requirements specified throughout the standard and the

17、 following documented items shall be satisfied before a claim of compliance with the standard can be made and verified. a) The specification and finish of lockers to be used in damp or contaminated atmospheres (see clause 10). b) The specification for provision of heating, if heating is required (se

18、e clause 14). c) Specification and test procedures for lockers which have to withstand heavier duty (see B.1.4). 4.2 Information to be supplied by the purchaser The following information to be supplied by the purchaser shall be fully documented. Both the definitive requirements specified throughout

19、the standard and the following documented items shall be satisfied before a claim of compliance with the standard can be made and verified. a) The number of this British Standard and type of locker, i.e. general duty or heavy duty. b) The total number of lockers. c) The type of unit (see 3.2 and fig

20、ure 1) and, in the case of type 3 (multi tier units) the number of tiers. d) The plan, size and height of unit (see 5.1 and 5.2). e) The number of nests, stating the number of units per nest (see 3.5). NOTE. An example of an enquiry or order is given in annex A. 4.3 Options There are a number of opt

21、ions incorporated in this British Standard. In the event that the purchaser does not wish to implement any of these options at the time of enquiry and/or order, the manufacturer shall supply the product on the following basis: a) without base (see clause 7); b) without a seat (see clause 8); c) with

22、out hooks (see clause 12); d) without hanger rails (see clause 12); e) with a flat and level top (see clause 13); f) without door baskets (see clause 12).2 BSI 1996 BS 4680 : 1996 Depth Depth Depth Depth Width Width Width Width Type 1a - One locker fitted with shelf Type 2 - Two tier unit. The thickness of metal shall be not less than 0.5 mm. 7 Bases or legs Bases or legs, where fitted, shall be 150 mm high. 8 Seat If a seat is specified it shall not reduce

27、 the stability of the unit. 9 Locking Doors shall be provided with a means of fastening. NOTE 1. For security purposes, a lock may be required. For additional security a three point locking mechanism should be used. NOTE 2. Coin operated and combination locks are available. 10 Finish The manufacture

28、r shall state the finish applied. All finishes shall cover evenly all exposed surfaces, including cropped edges. Before any paint finish is applied all surfaces shall be free from grease, rust or other surface imperfections. NOTE 1. The specification and finish of lockers to be used in damp or conta

Colours chosen from those specified in BS 4800 in conjunction with BS 5252 should be the preferred colours. 11 Construction All accessible sharp edges or projections likely to cause injury shall b

Provision shall be made to allow for the easy cleaning of these items. 13 Top The units shall be supplied with a flat top or a slopi

33、ng top. When a sloping top is fitted the tangential slope shall be at least 1 in 3 downwards from back to front. NOTE. The sloping top can be provided as an integral part of the locker or as a separate item that can be retro-fitted to existing lockers.4 BSI 1996 BS 4680 : 1996 14 Ventilation Louvres

34、 or ventilation slots shall be provided in the door or carcass to allow air to circulate through the locker. NOTE. If the lockers are required with provision for heating, details should be agreed between the purchaser and the manufacturer (see clause 4). 15 Performance requirements 15.1 General Befo

35、re a new design of locker is used for the first time, practical tests shall be made in accordance with annex B to verify that: a) the locker has adequate static strength and durability; b) the locker is able to withstand impact forces; c) the locker performs satisfactorily under continuous use. 15.2

36、 Strength of shelves When tested in accordance with B.5.1.2 the deflection of shelves shall be no greater than span/100. 15.3 Deflection of clothes rail When tested in accordance with B.5.1.5 the deflection of the clothes rail shall be no greater than span/100. 15.4 Impact test on locker doors When

37、tested in accordance with B.5.4 the local distortion from the impact, together with the overall distortion of the door, shall not result in the skin of the door deviating from its original position by more than 15 mm for a general duty, or 12 mm for a heavy duty application. 15.5 Paint flexibility a

38、nd adhesion When the test piece is tested in accordance with B.6.2a and B.6.3, the paint shall show no signs of cracking or loss of adhesion. 15.6 Paint adhesion When the test piece is tested in accordance with B.6.2b and B.6.4, no paint on any of the 64 squares shall be removed by the removal of th

All the lockers in this order are the same (type 2). However, if the requirement is for a number of lockers of various types, a sep

The test specimen shall be representative of the production model in order to provide approval for the type (model)

43、 of locker tested. The sequence of testing shall be B.1.2, B.1.3, B.1.4. B.1.2 Static tests The static strength of the component parts is assessed. This determines the ability of the locker to withstand the high levels of loading that occur only occasionally. B.1.3 Wear tests The strength and durabi

44、lity of the component parts of the article are assessed. This determines the ability of the locker to withstand repeated operations, movement or application of loads encountered during daily use.6 BSI 1996 BS 4680 : 1996 Table B.2 Test loads applied to the part being tested Test level Top surface st

Specification and test procedures for such special criteria should be agreed between supplier and customer prior to order (s

B.2 General requirements for testing B.2.1 Test loading All loads and forces shall be measured to an accuracy of 5% . NOTE 1. The tests may be carried out by means of loads or forces. For practical purposes, a force

For each component part, the tests shall be carried out in the order in which they appear in the appropriate sub-clause. NOTE 2. The compound parts of an item can be tested in any order and do not necessarily have to be carried out in the order given in B.1.
