BS1768, Uni

、fied precision hexagon bolts, screws and nuts (UNC and UNFthreads) normal series. BS2693, Screwed studs. BS3092, Dimensions of main friction clutches, main power-take-off assemblies, and associated attachments for i.c. engines. This BritishStandard has been prepared under the authority of the Mechan

、ical Engineering Industry Standards Committee to assist engine manufacturers and users by specifying certain features of engine mountings applied to flywheel housings. The mounting dimensions specified are related not in any way to the size or power of the engines concerned, but to the flywheel hous

、ings, some dimensions of which are specified in BS3092, “Dimensions of main friction clutches, main power-take-off assemblies, and associated attachments for i.c.engines”. The BritishStandard pad numbers allocated to the range of pad sizes inTable 1 of this standard are related to the flywheel housi

、ng code numbers ofBS3092, Table17, and, although it is generally intended that pads should be used on flywheel housings with matching code numerals, pads of a given size maybe matched with housings with larger code numerals (i.e.smaller sizes.) However, in respect of the recommended use of these pad

、s in engine locations other than flywheel housings (Clause5), it is left to engine designers in cooperation with engine purchasers or manufacturers of overall installations to select from the data specified in this standard which form and size of mountings shall be applied to any particular engine.

、The standard is based on SAE practice for mounting pads set out in the SAE Handbook(1960) and consists of the following sections: Section1, “Flywheel housing mounting pads”, which gives dimensions of flywheel housing mounting pads; and Section2, “Engine mounting brackets”, which gives dimensions of

、brackets for attachment to the pads specified in Section1, for bearer mounted type engines only. Such differences as exist between the present standard and the information contained in the SAE Handbook(1960) are to permit a range of pads having a sizeprogression. NOTEWhere metric equivalents are sta

、ted (see Table 1M) the figures in British units are to be regarded as the standard. The metric conversions are approximate. More accurate conversions should be based on BS350, “Conversion factors and tables”. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract.

、Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover.BS3529:1962 BSI 02-2000 1 1 Scope Section1 of this standard specifies mounting pad face dimensions and pad location dimens

、ions with respect to horizontal and vertical centre lines of vertical pads located above and below the flywheel horizontal centre line (“high” and “low” pads) for the rear end mounting of i.c. engines with or without the use of the brackets specified in Section2. It also specifies diameters and loca

、tion dimensions of tapped holes in these pads. Section2 of this standard specifies certain dimensions of brackets designatedB1,B2 andB3, which, when secured to the mounting pads specified in Section1, Clauses2 and3, form engine support arms. It is recommended that if these brackets can be used with

、pads in other locations as outlined in Clause5, the requirements of Section1 of this standard be adopted wherever possible. Section 1. Flywheel housing mountingpads 2 Pad face dimensions and diameters, depths and location dimensions of tapped holes a) Face dimensions of mounting pads shall be relate

These face dimensions of the mounting pads together with diameters and location di

、mensions of tapped holes shall be as specified inFigure 1 and Figure 2 and in Columns3,4,5 and6 of Table 1. b) Tapped hole depths shall be such that the minimum length of thread engagement in ferrous flywheel housings shall be1.5 times the nominal diameter specified. When aluminium alloy flywheel ho

、usings are used, it is recommended that this proportion be increased to1.75 times the nominal diameter specified. 3 Pad location a) “High” and “low” pad faces shall be parallel to the vertical centre line and shall be displaced from it by the distance F in Figure 1 and Figure 2 and Column8, Table 1.

、 b) “High” pads shall be above the horizontal centre line by a distance such that the dimensionD from the centre line to the lower tapped holes shall be as specified in Figure 1 andColumn6, Table 1. c) “Low” pads shall be below the horizontal centre line by a distance such that the dimensions D from

、 the centre line to the upper tapped holes shall be as specified in Figure 2 and Column6,Table 1. 4 Combined pads It is recommended that wherever possible flywheel housings embody pads combining dimensions for both “high” and “low” pads (Clauses2 and3), such that either “high” or “low” positions may

、 be accommodated. 5 Engine mounting pads in locations other than those specified above It is recommended that if engine mounting pads areused on locations other than on flywheel housings, their face dimensions be selected from dimensions A, B and C specified in Columns3,4 and5 of Table 1, it being l

These pads can be used with the brackets specified in Section2 and in other instances such as in trunnion and specialized

、mountings. 6 Mounting registers If mounting registers in the form of “top lips” are applied to the pads for engine support and location, it is recommended that their dimensions conform to those given in Figure 3 and Columns9,10,11 and12 of Table 1.BS 3529:1962 2 BSI 02-2000 Figure 1 Diagram of flywh
