1、 TECHNICAL REPORT ATIS-0100015 CATEGORIZATION OF EQUIPMENT DEPLOYED WITHIN COMMUNICATIONS NETWORKS FOR USE IN OUTAGE CLASSIFICATION AND ANALYSIS ATIS is the leading technical planning and standards development organization committed to the rapid development of global, market-driven standards for the

More than 300 companies actively formulate standards in ATIS 20 Committees, covering issues including: IPTV, Service Oriented Networks, Home Networking, Energy Efficiency, IP-Based and Wireless Technologies, Quality of Service, Billing and Ope

In addition, numerous Incubators, Focus and Exploratory Groups address emerging industry priorities including “Green”, IP Downloadable Security, Next Generation Carrier Interconnect, IPv6 and Convergence. Establish a NRSC Equipment Task Force: This subteam consisted of team members from various Service Provider segments (e.g., wireline, wireless, cable) and Equipment Suppliers. The goal was to document the types of equipment deployed in the co

A previously generated NRSC list of equipment categories was used initially and subsequently augmented as needed. The result was more than 150 examples of equipment were identified for various technologi

Resolution with other industry classification systems (TL 9000): Several meetings were held with TL 9000 representatives to discuss differences between the NRSC and the TL 9000 categorization system. This activity primarily consisted of reviewing the categories for equipme

8、nt that are already deployed in the communications network. The result of this study was the recommendation for two new TL 9000 categories for next generation networks, and the modification of several names for both NRSC and TL 9000 categories to ensure consistency. 3. Making modification to the equ

The finalized NRSC Equipment Categorization list is: Circuit Switch Packet Switch Network Signaling Elements Network Service Elements Network Security E

In all cases, there is a direct mapping of the equipment t

This flat NRSC structure is quite different from the TL 9000 approach where each equipment category consists of many layers of sub-categories. The equipm

However, two new categories were identified for these networks. The new categories are: Network Service Elements Network Security Elements In addition, the “Sy

13、stem Supporting” category is introduced for consistency with the Impact Hierarchy. The NRSC felt that the term “System Supporting” was more descriptive than the TL 9000 “Operations and Maintenance” category. In summary, the mapping between the NRSC categories and the TL 9000 categories is shown in F
