Summary of Test Method4.1 The standard energy consumption rating is determinedfor a facsimile machine while the machine is in a simulatedcustomer installation performing one eighth of a typical daysjobs (using a watt-hour meter). The typical days jobs (size andnumb

13、er of pages) are based on a standard volume (see Table 1).The simulated customer installation can be calculated withactual usage data, or can be based on the following assump-tions, that the printer will typically:4.1.1 Be plugged in to a live power line for thirty 24-h days(720 h)/month.4.1.2 Never

14、 be turned on and off (see Note 1).4.1.3 Be left on 24 h/day for 30 days of each standard workmonth.4.1.4 Be in an energy-saver mode some amount of timedepending on the nominal volume and use from Table 1, the1This practice is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee F05 on BusinessImaging Products

Excess machine stoppagesmay distort the overall energy consumption. A reasonablenumber of paper misfeeds (such as 1 misfeed per 1000images) that can readily be

The data from 9.1.1 through9.1.4 applies to all standard volumes for which the machine isbeing tested. The data from 9

36、.1.5 will only apply to oneconfiguration, one resolution, and one combination of rates oftransmission, and must be repeated for all other configurations.Prior to the start of this test, the machine should be plugged into a live power line, turned on, and stabilized at ambientconditions for at least

37、12 h. Using the PBX line simulator andtelephone wire, interconnect the test machine and its duplicatein such a way that they can send and receive facsimilemessages between them. This should be done at least 12 h priorto the test. An appropriate watt-hour meter should be in linewith the machine ready

38、 to give an accurate indication ofmachine energy consumption without disruption of the energysource.9.1.1 Sending/Receiving TimeChoose the appropriate for-mula in Table 2 that matches the monthly volume for themachine under test. Using the manufacturers values forfacsimile transmission speeds where

39、X is the number of pagessent or received per minute, follow appropriate formulas. Dothe calculations twice, once for each sending time and once forthe receiving time. Add the two values together, then divide bytwo and record the sending/receiving time in Fig. 1.9.1.2 Plug-In Energy Read and record t

Record the resultin Fig. 1, Test Results, Part A.

41、If it is known that the testmachine consumes no energy during the plug-in mode, or thatthe machine is never turned off, enter a zero for the tested datafor plug-in energy use and omit this step (see Note 1).9.1.3 Warm-Up Plus Stand-By EnergyWith the machinein a stabilized plug-in condition, read and

42、 record the watt-hourmeter indication and the time (or start the stopwatch or timer).Turn on the machine and allow it to warm up and stabilize inthe ready mode. After 1 h, read and record the watt-hourindication again. The difference between the two readings ofthe watt-hour meter is tested data for

43、warm-up mode plusstand-by mode energy use. Record the result in Fig. 1, TestResults, Part B. If it is known that the machine uses no energyin the warm-up mode (as defined by this procedure) or that themachine is never turned off, omit this step and proceed to 9.1.4(see Note 1).9.1.4 Stand-by Energy

44、For facsimile machines with anenergy-saver mode, disable the feature. At the conclusion ofthe previous 1-h measurement (9.1.2) leave the machine turnedon. After 1 h, record the watt-hour reading. The differencebetween the watt-hour reading at the start and finish of the houris the tested data for th

If the energy-savermode is automatic, let the machine enter the energy-savermode. When it has entered the energy-saver mode, read and

46、record the watt-hour meter and the time. After 1 h, record thewatt-hour reading again. The difference between the watt-hourreading at the start and finish of the hour is the tested data forenergy-saver mode energy. Record the result in Fig. 1, TestResults, Part D. If the machine is onewhich is manually placed in the energy-saver mode, activatethe feature when the machine has cycled out, and then recordthe time it takes to reach the energy-saver mo

49、de. The printershould stay in the energy-saver mode for 1 h. Using the timer, record the amount of time it takes the machine to come out ofthe energy-saver mode. Add this time to the amount of time ittook the printer to go into an energy-saver mode and record theresult in Fig. 1, Test Results, Part E.9.1.7 Sending Energy Plus Stand-by EnergyWith themachine in a stand-by mode, read and record the watt-hourindication and the time (or start the stopwatch or timer). Usinga standard original (6.3), send the standard jobs to the identicalfacsimile machine
