Only when otherwise specified, Schedule 40 compo-nents, manufactured from the list of material indicated inPractice F1155 and Specificati

In addition, sounding tubes may be fabricated instainless steel for stainless steel tanks.5.1.1 Sounding tubes passing through or terminating in fueltanks, potable water tanks, or clean salt water ballast tanksshould be constructed of 70-30 copper nickel, but others

    15、in accordance with AN-SI B16.5, ANSI B16.9, ANSI B16.28,orANSI B16.11 as ap-plicable (See Table 21 in Practice F1155), and the installationshall be in accordance with ANSI B31.1 as modified bySpecification F722. These standards cover the fitting toler-ances.5.4 Some cargo may preclude the use of mat

    16、erials specifiedin this guide. However, configuration examples are applicablefor all applications.5.5 When a sounding tube is combined with the air escape,either three 114-in. (approximately 30-mm) diameter holesapproximately 12 in. (305 mm) from the tank top equallyspaced or six12-in. (approximatel

    17、y 15-mm) diameter holesapproximately 6 in. (150 mm) from the tank top equally spacedcan be used for perforations. See Fig. 2.5.6 Figs. 1-4 are guidance details.6. Installation of Sounding Tubes6.1 Locate sounding tubes as close as possible to the lowestpart of the tank.6.2 Type I, II, and III soundi

    18、ng tubes, excluding oil prod-ucts, shall be perforated as shown in Fig. 1, Fig. 2, and Fig. 3respectively, for ventilation.6.2.1 Type IV sounding tubes are only allowed where thetank cannot be penetrated from the top because of an unavoid-able situation, such as a prohibitive location (see Fig. 4).6

    19、.3 Slope and curvature shall be kept to a minimum, andunder no circumstances shall the slope be permitted to exceed45 from the vertical. Radius of curvatures up to a minimum of10 ft (approximately 3 m) will be permitted where unavoid-able.6.4 Tubes may be provided with flanged take down connec-tions

    20、, approximately 18 in.     21、n from a tank.6.4.2 The inside edges of sounding tube shall be smoothedto prevent hanging up of a sounding device or thief samplerwhen they are being withdrawn from the tank.6.5 Tubes shall be adequately supported to withstand bothstatic and dynamic loads.6.6 Welding shall be in accordance with Amer

    22、ican Bureauof Shipping Rules for Building and Classing Steel Vessels orAWS D1.1.SUPPLEMENTARY REQUIREMENTSS1.1 To ensure the fluid in the sounding tube is representa-tive of the fluid in the tank when taking fuel samples,12-in.(approximately 15-mm) diameter holes, 6 in. (150 mm) apartare drilled in
