Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.INTRODUCTIONThis practice is intended to provide guidance on the minimum label information for chemicalprotective clothing.1. Scope1.1 This p

    3、ractice covers the informational content of labelsin or on chemical protective clothing.1.2 This practice details the recommended format andminimal content of the information to be included on the labelsused for chemical protective clothing.1.3 Protective clothing is defined as any single item orcom

    4、bination of items used for the purpose of isolating parts ofthe body from direct contact with a potential hazard. It does notinclude individual parts of a protective clothing item designedto be worn as part of another item (for example, a faceshield orlens) unless it may be worn independently of the

    5、 other itemsand still be used in a protective manner. For example, a gloveor boot unless permanently attached would be considered aprotective clothing item requiring labeling, while a visor orvent valve would not. In summary, the intent of this practice isto only require labeling of parts of an ense

    6、mble that can beused independently for the protection of the user.1.4 This practice does not cover user information providedby means other than item labeling such as instructions,informational packets, brochures, or other written means.1.5 This practice excludes those items covered under 16CFR 303 u

    7、nless specifically designed for use as chemicalprotective clothing.1.6 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the ap

    9、.1 GeneralThis practice contains the recommendationsfor minimal informational requirements for the identification ofchemical protective clothing items. It is intended to provide theuser with some of the basic information necessary for theproper selection and use of the chemical protective clothingwh

    10、en comparing resistance data derived from ASTM perfor-mance testing.4. Minimal Informational Requirements4.1 The minimum informational requirements for labelingof chemical protective clothing include an identification of theitem, the manufacturers or distributors name, base composi-tion information

    11、(material of construction), and size.4.2 The following details the minimum requirements:4.2.1 IdentificationThe name or trade name, or otherdescriptions for the item (such as catalog number, etc.).4.2.2 Manufacturers or Distributors NameThe name ofthe manufacturer or distributor of the item.4.2.3 Ba

    12、se Composition and SizeThe barrier compositionof the garment or item (it is suggested that the generic orcommon terms for base composition be provided) and manu-facturers size designation. If of multilayered construction, thelargest percentage of barrier composition or trade name for thecomplete com

    13、position can be shown. However, it is suggestedthat all composition elements be noted. The sizing should bethe manufacturers size designation in either a category (forexample, Large) or inch-pound or SI (metric) units (forexample, 42 to 44 in./107 to 112 cm). Width and girthmeasurements are also of

Label Format5.1 The manufacturer or distributor may utilize any form ortype of labeling method to convey the required information.Th

    17、is may take the form of silk screen impressions, tags, or anyother means of labeling. Integral or attached labels are recom-mended.5.2 The label should be of a durable nature such that theexpected life of the label is the same as the garment orprotective clothing item, where possible.5.3 The size of

    18、 the label should be sufficient to enable theuser to easily read the information provided. It should also belocated on the item in a location to facilitate recognition.5.4 Labeling of chemical protective clothing containers orpackages only does not constitute labeling as defined in thispractice.5.5

    19、Each piece that could be worn independently for theprotection of the user, must be labeled (for example, hoods,overgarments, gloves, boots, etc.).5.6 The appendix shows an example of a label that followsthis practice.6.
