Scope1.1 This specification addresses protective gloves worn bylaw enforcement and corrections officers.1.2 This specification

    3、 and related standards were developedby subject matter experts, including experienced end users,using data from a survey of more than 800 U.S. law enforce-ment and corrections officers.1.3 This specification addresses performance requirements,performance ratings, and test methods for whole gloves an

    4、d forglove components (for example, materials, layers).NOTE 1This specification references published ASTM standards.1.3.1 A glove is not uniform in terms of the protection itprovides, and different portions or areas of a glove (forexample, palm, fingertip) may offer different protection.1.3.2 It is

    5、not intended that a single glove meet all specifiedperformance requirements within this specification.1.4 The glove supplier will identify which of the perfor-mance requirements a specific glove meets and the perfor-mance ratings for the different portions or areas of the glove.1.5 This specificatio

    6、n specifies performance requirementsfor (1) physical protection, including resistance to cut,puncture, and needle stick, and (2) resistance to abrasion andtearing to ensure protection is maintained during use.1.5.1 A document outlining dexterity and other physicalprotection requirements identified b

    7、y end users as important isbeing developed.1.6 It is expected that this specification will be used bysuppliers, test laboratories, certification bodies, and purchasers.1.7 It is intended that two related standards be used inconjunction with this specification:1.7.1 A Guide for Selection, Procurement

Significance and Use4.1 The purpose of this specification is to provide perfor-mance requirements and test methods for the evaluation ofprotective gloves used in law enforcement and correctionsapplications.4.2 Test methods and performance ratings are included toaid glove purchasers and

    25、end users in their evaluation ofwhether a protective glove meets their needs. It is not requiredthat a glove meet every performance requirement specified inthis specification.5. Test Item Requirements5.1 The supplier shall provide to the test laboratory asufficient number of test items to accomplish

    26、 the requiredtesting.5.1.1 The test methods referenced in Section 6 specify thenumber of test items required for each test.NOTE 3It is recommended that spare test items be provided.5.2 A test item may be any of the following:5.2.1 a whole glove, if the protective area is of sufficientsize for the te

    27、st,5.2.2 a portion of a glove (for example, a finger), if theprotective area is of sufficient size for the test,5.2.3 a swatch having the same configuration (that is,material and construction) as the relevant advertised protectivearea of the glove. If there are multiple different advertisedprotectiv

    28、e areas of the glove with different configurations,swatches shall be provided for each protective area beingtested.5.3 At least one whole glove pair shall be submitted withtest items to confirm appearance is consistent with test items.That glove shall have a product label meeting the requirementsof

    29、Section 8 of this specification.5.4 Replicate test items shall be identical in appearance,materials of construction, and material configuration.5.5 Unless otherwise stated, the test threat shall be intro-duced from the outside of the glove.6. Performance Requirements6.1 The glove supplier shall spec

    30、ify which performancerequirements are met by the glove and the advertised protectivearea for each type of protection. The glove supplier shallclearly indicate using a written description, diagrams,photographs, or any combination thereof of the glove to depictthe areas offering specific protection in

    31、 accordance with thisspecification.NOTE 4Appendix X1 provides examples of approaches for depictingprotective areas of the glove by performance level in accordance with thisspecification.6.2 For each advertised protective area, the glove shall betested per the relevant test methods below and shall me

Performance is evaluated as theweight required to cut thr

    35、ough the material with a bladeresistance travel of 20 mm. Performance ratings shall berecorded according to Table 1.(1) The following are recommendations to facilitate thistest method:(2) Double-sided tape should be used to hold a liner to theshell, if the liner is not adhered to the shell. The tape

    36、 should beplaced only on the sides of the mandrel so as to not makecontact with the blade during testing.(3) A sheet of tissue paper or other material with no cutresistance may be used to prevent premature electric contactduring testing of gloves with advertised protective areas havingtouchscreen ca

    37、pability.6.2.2.3 Each test item shall be at least the size required inTest Method F2992/F2992M 15.6.2.3 Hypodermic Needle Puncture Resistance:6.2.3.1 This test is applicable to advertised protective areashaving hypodermic needle puncture resistance.6.2.3.2 The test item shall be tested as specified

    38、in TestMethod F2878 10, using a 28-gauge needle puncture probe.Performance ratings shall be recorded according to Table 2.6.2.4 Puncture Resistance:6.2.4.1 This test is applicable to advertised protective areashaving puncture resistance.6.2.4.2 The test item shall be tested as specified in TestMetho

    39、d F1342/F1342M 05 (2013)1Probe A, Method A.6.2.4.3 Performance ratings shall be recorded according toTable 3.NOTE 5This method is not used to assess puncture resistance fromhypodermic needle punctures.6.2.5 Abrasion Resistance:6.2.5.1 This test is applicable to advertised protective areashaving abra

    40、sion resistance.6.2.5.2 The test item and size shall be prepared and tested asspecified in Test Method D3884 09 (2013) using H18 wheelsand a 1000-g load. The test item shall include all layers used inthe construction of the glove as indicated by the manufactureras the portion of the glove offering a

    41、brasion resistance.6.2.5.3 The testing end point shall be the number of abra-sion cycles at which wear through of all layers of the glove areabeing tested is observed. At a minimum, the test item shall bereviewed for wear through at the cycle counts outlined in Table4. To evaluate wear through, the

    42、test item shall be removedfrom the test fixture and placed on a flat surface that visuallycontrasts with the test item. An optical or visual method shallbe used to determine whether wear through has occurred. Theend point of the test shall be any wear through of all layers ofthe glove test item wher

    43、e the largest measurement of thebreakthrough is greater than 3 linear mm. The average perfor-mance rating of the five samples shall be recorded according toTable 5.NOTE 6This method is intended to be used as an evaluation forcomparing different glove styles against a repeatable, consistent analysis.

    44、Actual wear through as defined by an unusable product is dependent onthe application and individual user and is not defined through thisspecification.6.2.6 Tear Resistance:6.2.6.1 This test is applicable to advertised protective areashaving tear resistance.6.2.6.2 Gloves that are not made of elastom

    45、eric materialsshall be tested in accordance with ISO EN 388:2003, Section6.3.NOTE 7In this method, a tensile tester is used to measure the forcenecessary to tear a test specimen which is previously cut in a definedmanner.6.2.6.3 Gloves that are entirely made of elastomeric mate-rials such as plastic

    46、 film, latex, etc., or have a liner made ofsuch materials, shall be tested in accordance with Test MethodD2582 09. This test involves the determination of the dy-namic tear resistance of plastic film and thin sheeting subjectedto end-use snagging type hazards (from NIJ 99-114).6.2.6.4 Glove tested i
