1、Designation: E 2098 00 (Reapproved 2006)Standard Test Method forDetermining Tensile Breaking Strength of Glass FiberReinforcing Mesh for Use in Class PB Exterior Insulationand Finish Systems (EIFS), after Exposure to a SodiumHydroxide Solution1This standard is issued under the fixed designation E 20

2、98; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reappro

3、val.1. Scope1.1 This test method covers procedures for determining thebreaking force of glass fiber mesh following their conditioningin an alkali solution. The method is applicable to glass fibermesh used in Class PB Exterior Insulation and Finish Systems(EIFS) with base coats that contain portland

4、cement as aningredient.1.2 Breaking force is expressed both as force per unit widthof mesh and as a percentage of the breaking force of the meshthat has not been exposed to alkali conditioning.1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. The values given in parentheses are fo

Conditioning is immersion for 28 days in anaqueous solution of 5% sodium hydroxide.3.2 Breaking force is determined

8、by mounting a test speci-men in a tensile testing machine and applying a force to thespecimen until it breaks.4. Significance and Use4.1 Glass fiber reinforcing meshes are used to strengthenEIFS. The reinforcing meshes are embedded into base coatsthat contain portland cement, which potentially expos

The breaking force following alkali exposureas determined by this method, is a factor used to comparativelyevaluate the alkali resistance of EIFS glass fiber reinforcingmeshes in the laboratory.4.2 This test method doe

The perfor-mance of an EIFS is a function of many factors, such as properinstallation, rigidity of supporting construction and resistanceof the EIFS to deterioration by other causes.5.
