Scope1.1 This practice covers guidelines for the collection andpreservation of information and physical i

    3、tems by any techni-cal investigator pertaining to an incident that can be reasonablyexpected to be the subject of litigation.1.2 For additional standards promulgated by ASTM Com-mittee E-30, see Practices E 620, E 678, E 860, and E 1020.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety

It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.2. Significance and Use3.1 This practice is intended for use by any technicalinvestigator when invest

    6、igating an incident that can be reason-ably expected to be the subject of litigation. The intent is toobtain sufficient information and physical items to discoverevidence associated with the incident and to preserve it for lateranalysis.3.2 The quality of evidence may change with time, there-fore, s

    7、pecial effort should be taken to preserve it. This practicesets forth guidelines for the collection and preservation ofevidence for further analysis.3.3 Evidence that has been collected and preserved shall beidentified with and traceable to the incident. This practice setsforth guidelines for such p

    8、rocedures.4. Procedure4.1 Documentary InformationCollect information relatedto events and conditions occurring before, during, or after theincident. Documentary information may be held by any entityassociated with the incident. Make a broad search to identifydocuments and, where possible, collect th

    9、em. Obtain state-ments as early as feasible from all individuals associated withthe incident and recovery activity.4.2 Physical EvidenceObtain and preserve physical itemsas early as possible. Plan the investigation to protect physicalevidence significant to the incident. The plan should considerthe

    10、possibility of identity loss, physical loss, deterioration ordestruction of informaion due to environmental effect, orrecovery and collection activities. When physical items cannotbe preserved in their found state, document it.4.3 Photographic DocumentationCommence photo-graphic documentation as soo

    11、n as possible after the incident.Document the scene of the incident and the condition of itemsinvolved. If items involved in the incident are disassembled orsubjected to destructive testing, each step of the disassembly ortesting shall be documented by contemporaneous photographsor videotaping. The

    12、preferable photographic technique pro-vides negatives that can be reproduced and enlarged. The date,time, and location of the photography or videotaping, andidentity of the photographer or videotaper, shall be recorded.4.4 Validation and AuthenticationEvidence and informa-tion gathered by investigat

    13、ors must be admissible in the eventof litigation. Validity and authenticity must be established andthe chain of custody traceable. Validity and authenticity ofevidence is established by documentation that defines therelationship of the evidence to the incident. Such documenta-tion includes, but is n
