、tainersDetermine the stability of the tape on fiber containers byapplying 1 in. wide tape to a fiber container meeting MIL-C-2439, Types I and II, 50 to 150 mm 2 to 6 in. in diameter sothat it extends around the container perpendicular to the mainaxis of the container and onto itself a distance of a

、pproximately50 mm 2 in. Make a release tab at least 150 mm 6 in. inlength by folding the extended tape adhesive to adhesive. Placethis assembly in a cabinet maintained at 71 6 2C 160 63.5F for ten days. Remove the container and condition for aminimum of 1 h. Remove the tape at a rate of approximatel

、y 1m 3 ft per second as roughly represented by a sharp yank.Make one test per sample selected.12.4.3 Determination of Low Temperature RemovalApplyspecimens of the tape to a MIL-C-2439, Types I and II,ammunition fiber container as described in 12.4.2. Place thisassembly in an air circulating oven mai

、ntained at 68 6 2C155 6 3.5F for 24 h. Then transfer assembly to a compart-ment maintained at 55 6 2C 67 6 3.5F for 2 h. At theend of the conditioning period, remove the tape from thecontainer at any angle at a rate of about1m3ftpersecondas roughly represented by a sharp yank. Care should be takento

、 keep the assembly at the low temperature during removal ofthe tape. Make one test per sample selected.12.4.4 Determination of Waterproofness of Tape on a MetalCanApply a 24 mm 1 in. wide specimen of tape to a closed4 oz seamless metal box with slip cover6containing 40 g ofclean, dry calcium chlorid

、e so that it extends around thecontainer once and onto itself approximately 1 in. (place a dabof adhesive at point tape overlaps itself). Position the tape sothat it is centered along the lip of the slip cover and approxi-mately one half the width extends on either side of the lip.Submerge the seale

、d container under one inch head of water, maintained at 4.4 6 2C 40 6 3.5F for a period of 15 min.Remove the container and carefully dry the exterior with apaper towel or other suitable means. Remove the tape andcontainer cover and visually examine the calcium chloride forevidence of wetting. Make th

、ree determinations. Wetting thecalcium chloride is cause for rejection of the tape.NOTE 2Application of Tape for TestingThe following steps arerecommended in applying this tape to telescope tubes, slip cover cans andsimilar circular containers to ensure a moisture-vapor-tight seal:Step 1Press the ca

、p of the tube onto the body and hold under tensionuntil the pressure inside equalizes with the pressure outside the tube. Thiscan be checked by releasing the cap and if it does not come off, pressureshave equalized.Step 2With the cap still firmly pressed in place, apply a short lengthof the tape pla

、ced so that one-half of the width falls on each side of thejoint between the cap and body.Press the tape firmly into place and continue to apply the tape aroundthe tube maintaining approximately a 45 N 10 lb tension on the tape untilat least 1-14 laps of tape have been applied (place a dab of adhesi

、ve wherethe tape over laps itself). Release tension, cut the tape from the roll leavinga free end of approximately 150 mm 6 in. length which is foldedadhesive to adhesive to form a tab to aid in removing the tape.Step3After application of the tape, the tube and the tape should beallowed to condition

、 under standard conditions for approximately 24 hbefore testing of any type is begun.13. Rejection and Rehearing13.1 Materials that fail to conform to the requirements ofthis specification may be rejected. Rejection should be reportedto the producer or supplier promptly in writing. In case ofdissati

、sfaction with the results of any test, the producer orsupplier may make claim for rehearing.14. Environmental Consideration14.1 Toxic ContentThe use of potentially toxic packagingmaterials is a concern for their potential presence in emissionswhen packaging is incinerated, or leachate when packaging islandfilled. Materials used in the manufacture of pressure-sensitive tapes covered by this specification shall not have anylead, cadmium, mercury, or hexavalent chromium intentionally
