    3、queous ethylene glycol (50 volume % minimum)base engine coolant and recycled prediluted aqueous propyleneglycol (50 volume % minimum) base engine coolant for use inautomobiles and light-duty vehicles. Committee D15 hasdeveloped this specification using experience, knowledge andresearch from recyclin

    4、g used aqueous base engine coolant andblends of used aqueous base engine coolant and virgin glycol.This standard does not apply to coolant produced from otherglycol sources such as medical waste, distillation bottoms,airplane/airport deicers and polyester production waste. Thisspecification provides

    5、 a procedure for evaluating engine cool-ant recycling technologies through the recycling of a referencesynthetic used engine coolant. It also specifies the chemical,physical, and performance requirements for the recycled pre-diluted aqueous glycol base engine coolant that is producedfrom that proced

    6、ure. When used without further dilution, thisproduct functions effectively during both winter and summer.This material is intended to provide protection against freezing,boiling, and corrosion in automobile or other light-duty servicecooling systems.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regard

    7、ed as thestandard. The values given in parentheses are approximateequivalents and provided for information only.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. Reagents and Materials3.1 Purity of ReagentsReagent grade chemicals shall beused in all

Unless otherwise indicated, it is intended thatall reagents conform to the specifications of the Committee onAnalytical Reagents of the American Chemical Society wheresuch specifications are available.6Other grades may be used,provided it is first ascertained that the reagent is of sufficien

    21、tlyhigh purity to permit its use without lessening the accuracy ofthe determination.3.2 Purity of WaterUnless otherwise indicated, referencesto water shall be understood to mean reagent water as definedby Type IV of Specification D1193.4. Procedure4.1 In order to properly evaluate a coolant recyclin

    22、g tech-nology, a reference synthetic used coolant (Annex A1)istobeused as the feed stock. The reference synthetic used coolantshall be prepared in accordance with Annex A1. An appropri-ately sized batch of reference synthetic used coolant is to beprepared and used to purge the recycling process comp

    23、onentsand yield enough consistent product to complete the testingspecified within this specification.4.2 Prepare the coolant recycling equipment or technologyaccording to the manufacturers directions and recommenda-tions.4.3 Vigorously stir or mix the reference synthetic usedcoolant using appropriat

    24、e vessels and mixing equipment im-mediately prior to and during the processing through thecoolant recycling process.4.4 Recycle the reference synthetic used coolant accordingto the manufacturers directions and recommendations.4.5 Evaluate the recycled coolant per the requirements listedin this speci

    25、fication.5. General Requirements5.1 The recycled prediluted aqueous glycol base enginecoolant shall consist essentially of water and ethylene glycol orpropylene glycol obtained from the processing of light, me-dium or heavy duty engine coolant products. The recycledprediluted aqueous glycol base eng

    26、ine coolant can in partcontain virgin glycol. . It also shall contain suitable corrosioninhibitors and a foam suppressor.5.1.1 Recycled prediluted aqueous ethylene glycol baseengine coolant may contain glycols other than ethylene glycolup to 7.5 % provided the chemical and physical properties ofTabl

    27、e 1 are met.5.1.2 Recycled prediluted aqueous propylene glycol baseengine coolant may contain glycols other than propylene glycolup to 0.5 % provided the chemical and physical properties ofTable 1 are met.5.2 The recycled prediluted aqueous glycol base enginecoolant shall conform to the chemical and

    28、 physical propertiesin Table 1. If the recycled prediluted aqueous glycol baseengine coolant contains chloride or sulfate, or both, at levelsgreater than the requirements specified in Table 1, fleet testingrequirements described in Section 6 shall be met. If thechloride and sulfate requirements in T

    29、able 1 are met, fleettesting is not required.NOTE 1The intention of conducting fleet testing is to verify that theeffects of residual contaminants left in the recycled glycol base enginecoolant are neutralized through real world application in a fleet test. Dueto the fact that there are not enough i

    30、ndustry field test data available tosupport setting hard specification limits, the fleet test requirements inSection 6 specify a protocol and limits based on comparing the recycledglycol base engine coolant to an industry standard reference enginecoolant that is known to adequately protect modern da

    31、y cooling systemsfrom corrosion.5.3 The recycled prediluted aqueous glycol base enginecoolant shall conform to the general requirements in Table 2.5.4 The recycled prediluted aqueous glycol base enginecoolant shall be in accordance with the performance require-ments in Table 3.5.5 This product, when

Fleet Testing Requirements6.1 Engine CoolantsReference engine coolant concen-trate (Annex A2) and recycled prediluted engine coolant shallbe used to conduct the fleet testing.6.2 VehiclesA minimum of fourteen ve

    36、hicles is recom-mended to start the test: seven containing reference enginecoolant concentrate (control vehicles) and seven containingrecycled prediluted engine coolant (test vehicles). A minimumof five control vehicles and five test vehicles shall finish thetest. Starting with fourteen vehicles all

    37、ows for vehicles to dropout of the test for various reasons, that is, mechanical failure,coolant contamination, etc.6.2.1 Vehicle SelectionAll vehicle cooling systems shouldbe inspected prior to selection. Vehicles with corroded coolingsystems should not be used for testing purposes. Vehicleselectio

    38、n shall be made as follows:6.2.1.1 Control vehicles and test vehicles shall be matchedpairs and be new or have similar low mileage accumulation.6.2.1.2 Same year, make, and model.6.2.1.3 Similar mileage and cooling system condition.6.2.1.4 Same cooling system and power train configuration.6.2.1.5 Al

    39、uminum head(s), aluminum radiator, aluminumheater core and aluminum water pump (housing).6.2.1.6 Cast iron block (optional).NOTE 2Vehicles equipped with cast iron heads may be tested inaddition to those specified above. A minimum of five control vehicles andfive test vehicles, equipped with aluminum

    40、 heads, shall complete the testand be included in the conclusive analysis report.6.2.2 Vehicle SetupAll vehicles shall be set up in accor-dance with Practice D2847 unless otherwise specified withinthis specification.6.2.2.1 All vehicles shall be set up with a new aluminumhead(s), aluminum radiator,

    41、aluminum water pump, thermostat,hoses, belts and radiator/cooling system cap. Installation ofnew heater cores is recommended.
