    3、g out mechanical grade plastic product used inthe fabrication of end items or parts.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers requirements and test methodsfor the material, dimensions, and workmanship, and the prop-erties of extruded shapes of rods and bars made from poly(vi-nyl chloride) (PVC), and chl

    4、orinated poly(vinyl chloride)(CPVC).1.2 The properties included in this specification are thoserequired for the compositions covered. Requirements neces-sary to identify particular characteristics important to special-ized applications may be described by using the classificationsystem given in Sect

    5、ion 4.1.3 This specification allows for the use of regrind andrecycled plastics as defined in Guide D 5033 providing: prod-ucts produced from regrind or recycled PVC material can beshown to meet the requirements of this standard with regard tomaterial classification, physical performance, dimensions

    6、 andworkmanship; and the regrind or recycled plastics used havenot been subjected to severe environments in post consumerapplications (such as chemical service) which could adverselyaffect the end products performance when subjected to machin-ing or critical applications or both.1.4 The values are s

    7、tated in inch-pound units and areregarded as the standard in all property and dimensional tables.For reference purposes, SI units are also included in Table 1only.1.5 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to thetest method portions section of this specification: This standarddoes not pur

    8、port to address all of the safety concerns, if any,associated with its use. Classification and Material4.

    16、1 Product shape and size as defined in the applicablepurchase order.4.2 This specification covers extruded product as listed inTables S-PVC-I and S-PVC-II. Products included in thedesignations reference Specification D 1784 callouts whereapplicable.4.2.1 The type of poly(vinyl chloride), and chlorin

    17、atedpoly(vinyl chloride) shape product may be categorized by type,grade, and class depending on resin composition as defined inTable S-PVC-II.4.3 The type, class and grade is further differentiated basedon dimensional stability (elevated temperature excursion test).See Table S-PVC-II and dimensional

    18、 requirements, Table A.4.4 Property Tables:4.4.1 Tables S-PVC-I and S-PVC-II may be used to describeextruded products.4.4.2 Table 1 may also be used to describe extrudedproducts not included in Table S-PVC-I or S-PVC-II via a cellcallout that includes the applicable material type and specificpropert

    19、ies (Designations 1 through 7).4.4.3 To facilitate the incorporation of future or specialmaterials not covered by Tables S-PVC-I and S-PVC-II, the “asspecified” category (00) for type, class and grade is shown inthe applicable table with the basic properties to be obtainedfrom Table 1 as they apply.

    20、4.5 Callout DesignationA one-line system shall be usedto specify poly(vinyl chloride), or chlorinated poly(vinyl chlo-ride) materials covered by this specification. The system usespre-defined cells to refer to specific aspects of this specificationas illustrated below:4.5.1 Examples:4.5.1.1 Example

    22、ALLOUT: S-CPVC0211S-PVC02 = Product made from CPVC in accordance withTables S-PVC-I and S-PVC-II1 = Unfilled class1 = General purpose grade product4.5.2 These two examples illustrate how a one-line, alpha-numeric sequence can identify the product composition, com-mercial parameters and physical char

    23、acteristics of extrudedproduct. A space must be used as a separator between thespecification number and the type designation. No separatorsare needed between type, class, and grade. When special notesare to be included, such information should be preceded by acomma. Special tolerances must be noted

    24、at time of order andare inserted after the grade in parenthesis and preceded by acomma.NOTE 2The material used in the manufacture of PVC and CPVCshapes intended for contact with or the transport of potable water, or both,must be evaluated and certified as safe for this purpose by a testing agencyacc

    25、eptable to the local health authority. The evaluation shall be inaccordance with the requirements for chemical extraction, taste, and odor,that are no less restrictive than those included in the National SanitationFoundation (NSF) Standard 61.5. Ordering Information5.1 All shapes covered by this spe

    26、cification shall be orderedusing the proper callout designation (see 4.5).6. Physical Property Requirements6.1 The physical property values listed within this specifi-cations tables are to be considered minimum specificationvalues. Any requirement for specific test data for a givenproduction lot sha

    27、ll be specified at the time of order. Physicalproperties for products not yet included in Table S-PVC-I orS-PVC-II may be specified by using Table 1 for extrudedproducts.7. Dimensional Requirements7.1 The type, class, and grade is differentiated based ondimensional stability (elevated temperature ex

    28、cursion test) asindicated in Table S-PVC-II.7.2 Products shall be produced within the commercialtolerances and with the lowest stress levels for machined partsas delineated in Table A.7.3 Tubular bar dimensions shall be supplied in the unfin-ished condition, unless otherwise specified at time of ord

    29、er,sufficient to finish to the nominal dimensions ordered.7.4 The maximum allowable camber at final inspection atthe factory shall be within the limits referenced in Table A.8. Workmanship, Finish and Appearance8.1 AppearanceThe resin material color for poly(vinylchloride) shall be dark gray. The re

    30、sin material color forchlorinated poly(vinyl chloride) shall be light gray. All shapesshall be uniform in color throughout the thickness. Specificcolors and color matching only as agreed to by order.8.1.1 Physical properties may be affected by other colors.Regardless of color, minimum properties of

Special surface finish shall be supplied

    32、only whenspecified in the purchase order or contract.8.3 DefectsAll products shall be free of visual voids, dirt,foreign material and embedded particles exceeding 0.040 in. 1mm maximum diameter as defined in 8.3.18.3.1 The criteria for determining the cleanliness shall beexternal visual inspection.

    33、A maximum number of two defectsper one foot length of rod and tubular bar are allowed. Clustersof defects less than 0.040 in. 1 mm diameter are to be countedas a single defect.8.4 Extrusion QualityProducts shall not flake or disinte-grate when tested in accordance with the test method for degreeof f

    34、usion as defined in 12.6.9. Sampling9.1 Sampling shall be statistically adequate to satisfy therequirements of this specification as applicable (see ANSIZ1.4-1993).9.2 For purposes of sampling, an inspection lot for exami-nation and tests shall consist of all material of the same type,class, grade a

    35、nd nominal size submitted for inspection at onetime.10. Number of Tests10.1 Routine lot inspection shall consist of all the criteriaspecified in the applicable product tables.10.2 The criteria listed in these product tables and defini-tions are sufficient to establish conformity of the shape to this

    36、specification. When the number of test specimens is not statedin the test method, a single determination may be made. Ifmore than single determinations and separate portions of thesame sample are made, the results shall be averaged. The finalresult shall conform to the requirements prescribed in thi

    37、sspecification.11. Test Conditions11.1 Conditions of SpecimensThe specification valuesand dimensions are based on conditioning techniques outlinedin Procedure A of Practice D 61811.2 Standard TemperatureThe tests shall be conducted atthe standard laboratory temperature of 73.4 6 3.6F 23 62C and 50 6

    38、 5 % relative humidity.12. Test Methods12.1 Tensile stress at break, elongation at break, and tensilemodulus (tangent) are in accordance with Test Method D 638,at the rate of 0.2 in. 5 mm/min. Values obtained shall meet therequirements called out in Table S-PVC-I.12.1.1 All rod specimens are in acco

    39、rdance with TestMethod D 638.12.2 Dimensional Stability:12.2.1 Specimen Preparation (a Minimum of Three TestSamples Required):12.2.1.1 RodsPrepare each specimen by cutting a 1.5 in.35 mm long slice from the shape to be tested. Machine theslice using a coolant and good machining practices to a length

    40、of 1.000 6 0.005 in. 25 6 0.13 mm. Each end of thespecimen shall have a machined surface.12.2.2 Testing ProcedureMeasure the outside diameterand thickness or length of the specimen as applicable at 73.4 61.8F 23 6 1C to the nearest 0.0001 in. 0.025 mm. Allmeasurements shall be done on the centerline

Also takemeasurements for thickness halfway to center and for diameterat mid-point.12.2.2.1 Place the specimen in a bath consisting of poly-alkylene glycol or an air circulating oven heated to 250 6 5F121 6 3C. After 6 h allow the specimen to slowly cool toroom temperature at a rate not to exceed

    42、40F 22C/h.Measure the specimen at 73.4 6 3.6F 23 6 2C andcalculate the percent change in each dimension.12.2.3 ReproducibilityInterlaboratory reproducibility isbeing determined and will be added within one year. Aprecision statement will be finalized and included within twoyears.12.3 Lengthwise Camb

    43、er:12.3.1 Make all measurements for camber using the maxi-mum distance rod deviates from the straight line extended fromedge to edge when measured in accordance with 12.3.2. Theshape shall be oriented such that the weight of the productdoesnt influence the results.12.3.2 Rod:12.3.2.1 RodLay each rod

    44、 on its side and measure it withconcave side facing a straight edge. Measure camber from thestraight edge to the maximum concave point on the rod.Camber may not exceed the values of Table A.12.3.3 ReproducibilityInterlaboratory reproducibility isbeing determined and will be added within one year. Ap

    45、recision statement will be finalized and included within twoyears.12.4 Flexural modulus is in accordance with Test MethodD 790, specimen14 in. 1.4 mm thick maximum, testing speed0.11 in. 2.9 mm/min. Values obtained shall meet the require-ments called out in Table S-PVC-I.12.5 Izod impact, in accorda

    46、nce with Test Method D 256,Method A, Fig. 4, notched14 in. 1.4 mm thick maximumspecimen. Values obtained shall meet the requirements calledout in Table S-PVC-I.12.6 Degree of Fusion of Extruded PVC and CPVC bySolvent ImmersionMake a determination of the degree offusion for extruded PVC as indicated

    47、by reaction to immersionin anhydrous acetone (American Chemical Society reagentgrade having a maximum density of 0.7857 g/mL at 25C). Adetermination of the degree of fusion shall be made forextruded CPVC as indicated by reaction to immersion inmethyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK).12.6.1 Specimen Preparatio

    48、nSpecimen shall be a sizethat is convenient to immerse in the test container, but not lessthan 2 in. 5 cm immersion height (depth). For small diameterrod (sizes 6 in. 15 cm or less), the sample shall cut in halflengthwise and both halves immersed to provide a completecircumferential section. For lar

    49、ge diameter rod the specimencan be cut into smaller pieces to facilitate testing, provided thatthe height of the sections meet the 2 in. 5 cm immersionheight requirements, and provide a full circumferential section.D 6263 98 (2003)312.6.2 ConditioningUnless otherwise specified, conditionthe specimens in air for a minimum of1hat73.4 6 3.6F 236 2C prior to testing.
