    3、s information to assist the specifier indeveloping a specification for the application and protection offully adhered EPDM (elastomeric terpolymer synthesized fromethylene, propylene and diene monomer), butyl, and neoprenevulcanized rubber sheets to be installed on concrete substrates.1.2 The struct

    4、ure and the deck should be evaluated, andfound to be mechanically sound, able to accept the weight ofthe sheet and overburden, and meet the local building coderequirements.1.3 The deck should be sloped to drain with a drainagemedia or layer above the membrane. The drainage media orlayer is not addre

    5、ssed in this guide.1.4 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in n

    6、on-conformancewith the standard.1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. Delivery of Materials4.1 Deliver materials in producer or system suppliersunopened containers and packages.4.2 All materials or material packaging must be clearlymarked i

    9、n a weather resistant manner with type, stock or lotnumber, and other pertinent information, for example,thickness, size, weight, producer or system suppliers name,ASTM specification, and so forth.5. Storage and Handling5.1 Store sheet materials in a horizontal position, elevatedoff the ground and u

    10、nder protective coverings to preventcontamination of the sheet material surfaces.5.2 Store sheet materials in a manner to prevent producer orsystem suppliers markings from being destroyed.5.3 Store adhesives and sealants in tightly closed originalcontainers in a temperature controlled environment be

    11、tween 16and 27C 60 and 80F for three days before using.5.4 Store splicing cleaners, primers, and adhesives in origi-nal closed containers in a manner that will not pose a firehazard.6. Safety Precautions6.1 Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) shall be availablefor the products that require them.6.2 A

Environmental Conditions7.1 Conditions

    16、 for installation can proceed when agreedupon by the owner, producer or system supplier, and installer.7.2 Do not attempt to install or bond sheet material tosubstrate or prepare seam splices in weather conditions such asdew, fog, rain, snow, frost, high winds, or temperatures below4C 40F.7.3 Do not

    17、 expose membrane and accessories to a constanttemperature in excess of 82C 180F.8. Substrate Preparation8.1 The following items should be addressed in Division 3of the project specification.8.1.1 Remove from the substrate any laitance, looseaggregate, sharp projections, grease, oil, excessive dirt,

    18、debris,curing compounds, and visible moisture that would preventsatisfactory installation. Refer to Guide D5295 for substratepreparation.8.1.2 Prepare all controlled and uncontrolled (cracks) jointsas recommended by the owner, producer, system supplier, orinstaller.8.1.3 The producer or system suppl

    19、ier of sheeting shallspecify types of substrates that would be acceptable for usewith the sheet bonding adhesive, splicing adhesive, and lapsealant. Information regarding acceptability of substrate mate-rials with other components utilized in the system is availablefrom suppliers of individual compo

    20、nents.8.1.4 Concrete curing agents, other than water, are subjectto acceptance by the producer or system supplier.9. Installation of Sheets9.1 Deliver the sheets to the substrate in good condition.Handle the materials with care so as not to damage the sheets.9.1.1 Use care and diligence during insta

    21、llation to avoiddamaging the substrate and sheet.9.1.2 Start the sheet installation at the low point of the deckor wall and work to the termination point.9.1.3 Field seams shall be perpendicular or parallel with thedirection of water flow. Avoid field seams that oppose thedirection of water flow.9.1

    22、.4 Follow appropriate details in Guide D5898.9.2 Unroll or unfold the sheet and visually inspect forphysical damage prior to setting into location and performingthe attachment to the substrate and the field seaming betweensheets. Allow sheets to relax for a minimum of12 h. (Specifiershould consult m

    23、anufacturer for recommendation.) (Use orremoval of questionable sheets shall be as agreed upon byproducer or system supplier, installer, and owners representa-tive.) Do not permanently install protection board until allareas of question and other defects are resolved.9.3 Align the sheet in its prope

    24、r location maintaining arecommended splice overlap to the adjacent sheet. (Specifiershould consult manufacturer for splice width recommenda-tion.) Fold back the area to be adhered, making a rounded edge.Use temporary ballast of sand bags or bias ply tires asnecessary to hold the horizontal membrane

    25、in position. Re-move foreign matter like sand, dirt, twigs, and so forth, whichmay have lodged under the sheet. Where dirt has contaminatedthe surface, clean the sheet in accordance with the manufac-turers recommendations.9.4 Horizontal Installation Procedure for Adhesively Bond-ing Sheet to Substra

    26、te:9.4.1 Fold back one-half of the sheet, apply bonding adhe-sive continuously to the exposed substrate and the back of theexposed folded sheet at the producer or system suppliersrecommended rate. Do not apply bonding adhesive to theperimeter splice areas (recommended width of 15 cm 6 in.) ofthe she

    27、et.9.4.2 Allow the bonding adhesive to dry (sufficient solventhas evaporated) to the point where it is still tacky, but will notstick to the finger when touched lightly.9.4.3 Carefully roll the sheet into the applied adhesive whilemaintaining a rounded leading edge, in a manner that mini-mizes voids

    28、 and wrinkles. Keep the sheet even and continuerolling until the sheet is adhered.9.4.4 Apply positive pressure to adhered areas to obtaincontact between membrane and substrate. Use a stiff broom orlarge roller with rounded edges to embed the membrane intothe applied adhesive.9.4.5 Fold back the unb

    29、onded portion of the sheet to exposethe unattached portion of the sheet.9.4.6 Repeat steps 9.4.1 through 9.4.4, be sure that noadhesive is applied on the perimeter splice areas of the sheet.9.5 Vertical Installation Procedure for Adhesively BondingSheet to Approved Substrate:9.5.1 Fanfold the membra

    30、ne onto itself at the foundationsfooting and fully adhere the membrane vertically by section orhang the membrane with the splice running either vertically(bottom to top) or horizontally. If horizontally, work from thebottom up for shingled splices.9.5.2 Fold back one-half of the sheet, apply bonding

    31、 adhe-sive continuously to the substrate and the back of the foldedsheet and repeat procedure or completely to the back of thesheet at the recommended rate. Do not apply bonding adhesivein the splice area.9.5.3 Allow the bonding adhesive to dry (sufficient solventhas evaporated) to the point where i

    32、t is still tacky, but will notstick to the finger when touched lightly.9.5.4 Carefully roll the sheet into the applied adhesive whilemaintaining a rounded leading edge or hang the membraneagainst the coated substrate in a manner that minimizes voidsand wrinkles. Keep the sheet even and continue roll

    33、ing untilthe sheet is adhered.9.5.5 Apply positive pressure to adhered areas to attempt toobtain total contact between the membrane and substrate. Usea stiff brush or large roller with rounded edges to embed themembrane into the applied adhesive.9.6 Make field seams with producer or system supplieds

    34、plicing systems. Prior to applying splicing adhesives to theD5843/D5843M 95 (2014)12waterproofing sheets at the job site, clean the splice areathoroughly with splice cleaner dispensed from underwriterslaboratory (UL) pump cans using clean natural fiber cloth.9.6.1 Apply the splice cleaner, primer, a

    35、nd splicing adhesiveand allow for open time as recommended by producer orsystem supplier.9.6.2 Apply the in-the-seam sealant a minimum of 1.2 cm12 in. from the unexposed edge (if required by producer orsystem supplier for additional protection at splice intersec-tions).9.6.3 Join the mating surfaces

    36、 carefully for a uniformcontact.9.6.4 Use a steel hand roller with rounded edges to applypositive pressure to the splice. Run the hand roller across theseam, from the inside of the top sheet to the edge of the fieldsplice to work out air bubbles.9.6.5 Inspect the outside edge for fishmouths. Where f

    37、ish-mouths exist, cut the sheet to allow it to lay flat. Apply a patchof sheet material to the cut that extends a minimum of 15 cm6 in. in all directions beyond the defect in accordance withsplicing procedures noted in 9.6.1 through 9.6.4.9.6.6 After cleaning the seam edge with splice cleaner,apply

    38、and feather lap-seam sealant by the end of each dayswork. Inspect lap-seam sealant for continuous contact withboth sheets.9.6.7 Complete all field seams and secure and make water-tight all terminations by the end of each work day.9.7 Flashings, Terminations, Tie-Ins, and Expansion Joints:9.7.1 Flash

    39、ings and termination should extend a minimumof 20 cm 8 in. above the grade.9.7.2 Flash penetrations inside and outside corners usingseparate uncured flashing materials.9.7.3 Secure the membrane edge to the substrate by using atermination bar or reglet when stopping the membrane and usecounterflashin

    40、g when extending the membrane above thegrade.9.7.4 Consult the producer or system supplier for recom-mended tie-ins.9.8 Take precautions necessary to provide protection of thewaterproofing system before the end of the day.9.8.1 The loose edge of the sheet shall have a watertight sealto the substrate

    41、 to prevent water from penetrating any com-pleted section of the waterproofing system.9.8.2 Do not abuse completed sections by subsequent ma-terial handling operations and traffic.9.8.3 Temporary protection of the membrane shall be pro-vided at the end of each days work with a minimum 3 mm 18in. pro

    42、tection board.9.8.4 Apply by loose laying or spot bonding a minimum 3mm 18 in. protection board over the membrane after qualityassurance (QA) items are addressed.10. Quality Assurance10.1 The producer or system supplier with the applicatorshall inspect splices, flashed details, and terminations duri

    43、ngthe application to verify that the sheet system is installed inaccordance with the producer or system suppliers specifica-tions.10.2 Flood test horizontal waterproofing in accordance withGuide D5957. Repair any leaks with a surface splice thatextends a minimum of 15 cm 6 in. past the damaged area

    44、inaccordance with procedures outlined in 9.6.11.
