ASTM D5570 D5570M-2010(2015) Standard Test Method for Water Resistance of Tape and Adhesives Used as Box Closure《使用作为封箱材料的胶带和胶粘剂防水性的标准试验方法》.pdf

、Designation: D5570/D5570M 10 (Reapproved 2015)Standard Test Method forWater Resistance of Tape and Adhesives Used as BoxClosure1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D5570/D5570M; the number immediately following the designation indicates theyear of original adoption or, in the case of

、 revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of lastreapproval. A superscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This test method covers a procedure to determine thewater resistance of an adhesive or tape as

、measured by theamount of tape or adhesive dissolved or dispersed in water.1.2 The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the othe

、r. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices

、and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.2. Summary of Test Method4.1 Procedure AThe water resistance of a tape (gummedor pressure sensitive) is measured by immersing the tape inwater at least 24 h at 73.4 6 4F 23 6 2C and determiningthe percent of tape tha

、t is dissolved or dispersed.4.2 Procedure BThe water resistance of an adhesive ismeasured by coating the adhesive on a paper surface, immers-ing in water at least 24 h at 73.4 6 4F 23 6 2C, anddetermining the percent of adhesive that is dissolved ordispersed.5. Significance and Use5.1 When a box bec

、omes wet, the performance of the boxand its closure are reduced. It is desirable to have box closuremethods that retain an ability to keep the box closed when wet.Sealing or reinforcing methods sometimes are useful to im-prove performance of wet boxes and closures. Water resistanceis sometimes a reg

、ulatory or contractual requirement.5.2 A test result indicating that a box closure tape oradhesive is soluble or dispersible in water is an indication thatits function will be significantly impaired when wet. A testresult that does not indicate solubility or dispersibility does notnecessarily ensure

、 that the bonding ability will be satisfactorywhen wet or that the performance of the box closure will besatisfactory when wet. Package performance testing describedin the water resistance section of Practice D1974 is useful tofurther investigate the effects of water on package and closurefunctions.
