、Designation: D4769 12Standard Specification forWoven and Warp Knitted Comforter Fabrics1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D4769; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number

Scope1.1 This specification covers woven and warp knitted com-forter fabrics, composed of any textile fiber, or mixture offibers.1.2 These requirements

、 apply to the length and widthdirections for those properties where fabric direction is perti-nent.1.3 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to thetest methods described in this specification: This standard doesnot purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its

Significance and Use5.1 Upon mutual agreement between the purchaser andseller, fabrics intended for this end use should meet a

、ll therequirements listed in Table 1 of this specification.5.2 It is recognized that for purposes of fashion or aestheticsthe ultimate consumer of articles made from these fabrics mayfind acceptable fabrics that do not conform to all of therequirements in Table 1. Therefore, one or more of therequir

、ements listed in Table 1 may be modified by mutualagreement between the purchaser and seller.5.2.1 If any of the requirements in Table 1 are modified bymutual agreement between purchaser and seller, any referenceto the specification shall state that: “This fabric meets ASTMSpecification D4769, excep

、t for the following characteris-tic(s).”5.3 Where no prepurchase agreement has been reachedbetween the purchaser and seller, and in case of controversy, the requirements listed in Table 1 are intended to be used as aguide only. As stated in 5.2, ultimate consumer demandsdictate varying performance pa

、ds. Perform the testson the fabric as it will reach the customer. Any “partiallyfinished” or “post-finish” fabrics should be processed inaccordance with the fabric manufacturers instructions.6.4 If the applicable test method does not specify thenumber of specimens, use the procedures in Practice D29

、05 todetermine the number of specimens per laboratory samplingunit. Use (1) a reliable estimate of the variability of individualobservations on similar materials in the users laboratory, (2)a95 % probability level, and ( 3) an allowable difference of 5 %of the average between the test results on lab

、oratory samplingunits and the average for the laboratory sampling unit. Theaverage for a laboratory sampling unit is the average thatwould be obtained by applying the test method to all of thepotential specimens from that laboratory sampling unit.7. Test Methods (See Note 1)7.1 Breaking StrengthDete

、rmine the breaking strength asdirected in Test Method D5034, using a constant-rate-of-extension (CRE) tensile-testing machine.NOTE 2If preferred, the use of a constant-rate-of-traverse (CRT)tensile testing machine is permitted. There may be no overall correlationbetween the results obtained with the

、 CRT machine and the CRE machine.Consequently, these two breaking force testers cannot be used inter-changeably. In case of controversy, the CRE method (Test Method D5034)shall prevail.7.2 Bursting StrengthDetermine the bursting strength ofknit fabrics in the standard atmosphere for testing textiles

、, asdirected in Test Method D3786, or Test Method D6797 asagreed between the purchaser and seller.NOTE 3There is no overall correlation between the results obtainedwith the CRE machine equipped with a bursting attachment and thediaphragm bursting tester. Consequently, these two bursting testers cann

、otbe used interchangeably. In case of controversy, the motor-driven dia-phragm tester method (Test Method D3786) shall prevail.NOTE 4The precision of the bursting strength testers has not beenestablished. The methods are accordingly not recommended for accep-tance testing unless preceded by an inter

、laboratory check in the labora-tories of the purchaser and seller, using randomized replicate specimens ofthe material to be evaluated.7.3 Tear StrengthDetermine the tear strength of wovenfabrics as directed in Test Method D1424.NOTE 5If preferred, the use of Test Methods D2261 is permitted, withexi

、sting requirements as given in this specification. There may be nooverall correlation between the results obtained with the tongue tearmethod (Test Method D2261), and the Elmendorf machine (D1424).Consequently, these three testers cannot be used interchangeably. In caseof controversy, Test Method D1
