1、Designation: D 4707 97 (Reapproved 2003)e1Standard Test Method forMeasuring Paint Spatter Resistance During RollerApplication1This standard is issued under the fixed designation D 4707; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revisio

5、2 Other Document:Pictorial Standards of Paint Roller Spatter33. Summary of Test Method3.1 The test paint is applied to a black plastic panel bydraw-down. The coated plastic panel is immediately mountedon an essentially vertical surface above a sheet of paper used tocatch any spatter. A specially des

6、igned notched spool roller(see 5.1) is rolled through the film following a definedprocedure, tending to generate spatter. Any spatter falls uponthe spatter catch paper and, after drying, is rated against thepictorial standards.4. Significance and Use4.1 Paint spatter generated by roller application

7、is depen-dent on the properties of both the paint being applied and thepaint roller cover used for the application. To eliminate theinfluence of the paint roller cover as a variable, and thus restrictthe spatter-inducing variable to the paint under test only, thepaint roller cover is replaced by a s

8、tandard notched spool rollerto generate spatter by a mechanism that simulates that of apaint-applying roller cover.4.2 Although most of the development work to establish thistest method was undertaken using latex paints, sufficient workwas also done to show its applicability to solvent-reduciblepain

9、ts.4.3 Tests during the development of this test methodshowed that the spattering properties of paints, like otherphysical properties, may in time change. Therefore, the resultsof this test are valid only for the time when the test is run.5. Apparatus5.1 Notched Spool Test Roller (Fig. 1).45.2 Glass

17、Sample the material in accordance with PracticeD 3925.7.2 Prior to testing, the samples shall be conditioned inaccordance with the standard atmosphere described in Speci-fication D 3924. The testing shall take place under the sameconditions.8. Procedure8.1 Clean the top of the glass plate and both s

Into the wellformed by the film caster, pour sufficient paint that the well isfilled from corner to corner. Draw down the paint the fulllength of

20、 the black plastic panel until the film caster is fullybeyond the far edge. The rate of application should be fairlyslow, 3 to 4 s. from end to end, to prevent pinholes or holidaysin the paint film.8.3 Immediately upon completion of the draw-down, re-move the black plastic panel from the glass plate

The 712-in. side will be the front edge. Center thearea with respect to the spatter so a maximum of spatter is onthis sheet (Fig. 4).9.2

31、 Compare the cut-out area to the pictorial standards.Assign the rating that most closely matches a standard, interpolating as needed for ratings (0poor spatter resistance,2, 4, 6, 8, and 10no spatter).NOTE 1Figs. 5-9 are duplications thereof for sample purposes and arenot meant to be used for test gr

Based on this standarddeviation, the following criteria should be used for judging theacceptability of results at the 95 % confidence level:10.1.1 RepeatabilityIntralaboratory precision is normallybetter than interlaboratory precision. However, when ratin
