Scope*1.1 This specification establishes requirements and testmethods for the materials, dimensions, ca

    3、mber, impactstrength, expansion, and appearance of extruded single-wallsoffit manufactured from rigid (unplasticized) PVC compound.Methods of indicating compliance with this specification arealso provided.1.2 The use of PVC recycled plastic in this product shall bein accordance with the requirements

    4、 in Section 4.1.3 Rigid (unplasticized) poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) sidingis covered in Specification D 3679.1.4 Soffit produced to this specification shall be installed inaccordance with Practice D 4756. Reference shall also be madeto the manufacturers installation instructions for the specificprodu

Terminology3.1 DefinitionsDefinitions are in accordance with Termi-nologies D 883, D 1600, and E

    12、 631, unless otherwise specified.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 vinyl sofft, na shaped material, made principallyfrom rigid poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) that is used to clad theunderside of a roof overhang.3.2.2 DiscussionAny exception to a homogeneous rigidPVC compound is pr

Materials and Manufacture4.1 The soffit, shall be made of one or more layers ofpoly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) compound.Any lay

    16、ers of materialsother than poly (vinyl chloride) (PVC) compound shall be keptto less than 20% by volume.4.2 Use rigid PVC recycled plastic, as defined in GuideD 5033 if all the requirements in the sections on Terminology(Section 3), on Materials and Manufacture (Section 4), and onPhysical Requiremen

    17、ts (Section 5) are met by the soffitcontaining PVC recycled plastic.4.3 The poly(vinyl chloride) soffit material, when tested inaccordance with Test Method D 635, shall not exceed anaverage extent of burn of 4 in. (100 mm), with an average timeof burn not to exceed 10 s. A minimum sample thickness o

    18、f0.030 in. (0.8 mm) is required.NOTE 3Caution: The flammability testing data, conclusions, andrecommendations of Test Method D 635 relate solely to the measurementand description of properties for classification of the poly(vinyl chloride)soffit material in response to flame under controlled laborat

    19、ory conditionsand shall not be used for the description or appraisal of the fire hazard ofvinyl soffit under actual fire conditions.4.4 The PVC compound when extruded into soffit shallmaintain uniform color and be free of any visual surface orstructural changes, such as peeling, chipping, cracking,

    20、flaking,or pitting.5. Physical Requirements5.1 Length and WidthThe nominal length and width of thesoffit shall be as agreed upon between the purchaser and theseller. The actual length shall not be less than14 in. (6.4 mm)of the nominal length and the actual width shall be within 618in. (3.2 mm) of t

    21、he nominal width when measured in accor-dance with 6.3 and 6.4.5.2 ThicknessThe minimum thickness of the soffit shallbe 0.030 in. (0.8 mm) when measured in accordance with 6.5.5.3 CamberA full length of soffit, typically 10 or 12 ft(3.05 or 3.66 m), will not have a camber greater than18 in.(3.2 mm)

    22、when measured in accordance with 6.6.5.4 Initial Impact ResistanceThe soffit shall have a mini-mum impact strength of 45 in.lbf (5.34 J) when tested inaccordance with 6.7.5.5 Coeffcient of Linear Expansion The soffit shall havea coefficient of linear expansion not greater than 4.5 by 105in./in./F (8

    23、.1 by 105mm/mm/C) when tested in accordancewith 6.8.5.6 GlossThis requirement is not applicable to surfaceventilated soffit. The gloss of soffit shall be uniform across theexposed face. Variations in the glossmeter readings shall not bemore than 6 10.0 % or 6 5.0 points, when tested in accor-dance w

    24、ith 6.9.5.7 Deflection of the soffit shall not exceed 618 in. (3.2mm) when installed flat in a horizontal position over a span of24 in. (610 mm) without intermittent support when tested inaccordance with 6.11.5.8 ColorThe color of the soffit shall be within thedefined color space parameters for the

    25、specific color agreedupon between the purchaser and the manufacturer. The colorspecified shall be uniform on the surface of the soffit panels,except in the case of multi-colored woodgrain panels.5.8.1 Uniformity of ColorWhen tested in accordance with6.10, the total color change, E, between a product

    26、ion specimenand the appropriate reference specimen or agreed-upon colorcoordinates shall not vary by more than 1.5, and the chromaticcoordinates shall not change by more than 6Da = 1.0 and6Db = 1.0.6. Test Methods6.1 GeneralThe inspection and test procedures containedin this section are used to dete

    27、rmine the conformance ofproducts to the requirements of this specification. Each pro-ducer who represents its products as conforming to thisspecification shall be permitted to use statistically basedsampling plans that are appropriate for each manufacturingprocess, but shall keep the essential recor

    28、ds necessary todocument, with a high degree of assurance, his claim that all ofthe requirements of this specification have been met. Addi-tional sampling and testing of the product, as agreed uponbetween the purchaser and manufacturer, are not precluded bythis section.6.2 Conditioning and Test Condi

    29、tions Condition the testspecimen in accordance with Procedure A of Practice D 618and test under those conditions, unless otherwise specifiedherein.6.3 LengthLay the specimen on a flat surface and measurewith a steel tape. Measure the length of a soffit panel to thenearest116 in. (1.6 mm) at the cent

    30、er, the butt edge, and thebottom of the top lock. The average of the three measurementsis the actual length.6.4 WidthInterlock two 2-ft (610-mm) long specimens inthe normal mode for installation. Lay the two specimens on aflat surface. Measure to the nearest116 in. (1.6 mm), thedistance between the

    31、lowest butt edge of the top specimen andthe lowest butt edge of the bottom specimen. Make a measure-ment at one end of the specimens and at 6-in. (152.4-mm)intervals along the entire length, making sure that the measure-ment is made perpendicular to the butt edge. Average themeasurements. The averag

    32、e constitutes the exposed width ofsoffit.6.5 ThicknessMake a minimum of five equally spacedmeasurements across the width of the soffit specimen perpen-dicular to the exposed surface with a micrometer similar to thatdescribed in Test Method D 5947, Method A or B, with theexception that the vernier re

    33、ading shall be to 0.001 in. (0.0254mm). Average the measurements. The average constitutes thethickness of the soffit.6.6 CamberPlace a full length of soffit (typically 10 or 12ft (3.05 or 3.66 m), on a flat surface alongside a straightedge atleast as long as the soffit specimen. Measure the maximums

    34、pace between the edge of the siding specimen and thestraightedge for each edge to the nearest116 in. (1.6 mm).6.7 Impact ResistanceTest impact resistance of soffit inaccordance with Test Methods D 4226, Procedure A impactorhead configuration H.25. 4 in-lb increments (0.5 in heightincrements with 8 l

    35、b falling weight) shall be used. Minimumsample dimensions shall be 1.5 in. by 1.5 in. Samples shall beD 4477 04a2tested with the normally exposed surface facing up. Condition-ing time for quality control test shall be at least 1 hr.6.8 Coeffcient of Linear Expansion Conduct this test inaccordance wi

    36、th Test Method D 696.6.9 GlossMeasure gloss with a reflection metre in accor-dance with Test Method D 2457, except that a 75 incidentangle shall be used.6.9.1 Procedure:6.9.1.1 Measure gloss on one piece of soffit on at least threewidely separated points across the width of the exposedsurface. The a

    37、rea to be tested must be flat.6.9.1.2 Each reading shall be within the limits specified in5.6.6.9.1.3 This test method is not applicable to surface venti-lated soffit.6.10 Color UniformityCalculate the difference betweenthe LH,aH,bHcolor coordinates for a production specimen tothose of either the ap

    38、propriate reference specimen or theagreed-upon color coordinates for that specific color product inaccordance with Test Method D 2244. Calculate the totaldifference, E, between the production specimen and the refer-ence specimen in accordance with Test Method D 2244.6.11 Deflection:6.11.1 Specimen P

    39、reparationThree pieces of soffit, 30 in.(762 mm) long, are prepared and conditioned at room tempera-ture for 24 h.6.11.2 ApparatusTwo parallel supporting beams,12 in.(12.7 mm) wide at the same level of elevation and 24 in. (610mm) apart, are set up with the provision of measuring heightdistance at t

    40、he center of the beams.6.11.3 ProcedureInterlock the three pieces of soffit panelwith ends being in line. Position the soffit unit across thesupport beams so that the ends of the unit are equidistant fromthe outside edges of the beams. The panel center area iscompared in height distance to the heigh

    41、t of the support beamsand any deviation is recorded.7. Product Marking7.1 In order for purchasers to identify soffit conforming toall requirements of this specification, producers and distribu-tors shall include a statement of compliance in conjunctionwith their name and address on product labels, i

    42、nvoices, salesliterature, and the like. The following statement is suggestedwhen sufficient space is available: “This PVC Soffit conformsto all the requirements established in ASTM SpecificationD 4477, developed cooperatively with the industry and pub-lished by the American Society for Testing and M

    43、aterials.Full responsibility for the conformance of this product to thespecification is assumed by (name and address of producer ordistributor).”7.2 The following abbreviated statement is suggested whenavailable space on labels is insufficient for the full statement:“Conforms to ASTM Specification D

    44、 4477, (name and addressof producer or distributor).”8. Packing, Packaging, and Package Marking8.1 The soffit shall be packaged in such a manner as toprovide reasonable protection against damage in ordinaryhandling, transportation, and storage.8.2 The provisions of Practice D 3892 shall apply to thi
