ASTM D4069-1995(2008) Standard Specification for Impregnated Activated Carbon Used to Remove Gaseous Radio-Iodines from Gas Streams《从气流中除去气态放射性碘用的浸渍活性炭的标准规范》.pdf

Materials and Manufacture4.1 The activated carbon furnished under this specificationshall be virgin material. Re

、activated carbon shall not be used.4.2 Impregnated activated carbon furnished under thisspecification shall be subject to the document control provi-sions of Section 7 of ANSI NQA-1.4.3 Materials used in the manufacture of impregnated-activated carbon furnished under this specification shall betrace

、able as provided in Section 9 of ANSI NQA-1.5. Significance and Use5.1 Activated carbons used in containment systems fornuclear reactors must be capable of functioning under bothnormal operating conditions and those conditions which mayexist following a design basis accident (DBA). Adsorbent bedstha

、t are part of recirculatory systems inside containment maybe exposed to the peak pressure, temperature, and steamcontent of a post-DBA condition.5.2 Carbon beds outside containment will be protected byfast-acting shutoff valves from the sudden rise in pressure, temperature, and humidity of the contai

、nment atmospherewhich would exist following a DBA. However, some rise intemperature and humidity will be experienced even by bedsoutside containment if they are reconnected to containmentafter the initial pressure rise (due to escape of steam into thecontainment volume) has been reduced by containme

、nt cool-ers. The amount of radioactivity that can reach either type ofadsorption system is conceivably quite high; hence, there is apossibility of a bed temperature rise due to decay heating. Thegaseous radioactive contaminants of most interest are organiciodides. In this test, CH3I is used to typif

、y the performance ofthe carbon on organic iodine compounds in general. The testdescribed here provide a reasonable picture of the effectivenessof an activated carbon for organic iodides under normal andpost-DBA conditions. The equipment and methods describedcan be used, with discretion, for similar

、tests at different gasflow conditions and, to some extent, on different gaseousradioactive contaminants and other adsorbents.6. Homogeneity Requirement6.1 A batch shall be considered homogeneous if the appar-ent density of each of three grab samples differs by no morethan 63.0 % from the average val

、ue of all three determina-tions. Failure of this test requires rehomogenization.7. Performance Requirements7.1 Each batch of impregnated activated carbon shall con-form to the following performance requirement: use the Methyliodide efficiency test (See Test Method D 3803), at 30C, 95 %relative humid

、ity, and a minimum percent specification of97.0 %.8. Physical Properties Requirements8.1 Each batch of impregnated activated carbon shall con-form to the requirements for physical properties prescribed inTable 1.9. Sampling9.1 A representative sample shall be obtained from eachbatch using the method

、s prescribed in Practice E 300 inquantity sufficient to perform all of the tests prescribed hereinin triplicate. A 2-L sample is usually sufficient.10. Number of Tests and Retests10.1 Each batch test specified in Section 8 and Table 1 shallbe performed at least once on each batch of carbon unless th

、etest method prescribes a greater number of tests.10.2 If a single test from 10.1 fails to meet the specificationvalue, the test may be repeated two additional times. Theaverage of the three determinations shall meet the specifica-tion. In addition, the coefficient of variation, n, for the threedete

Test Methods11.1 The test program shall conform to the test controlrequirements of Section 12 of ANSI

、NQA-1.11.2 The test methods used to determine the physicalproperties and performance capability of the sample shall bethose prescribed in Section 8 and Table 1.12. Quality Assurance and Inspection12.1 The producer or supplier of impregnated activatedcarbon furnished under this specification shall co

、mply with theapplicable Quality Assurance Requirements of ANSI NQA-1as identified by the users specification.12.2 Inspection of the impregnated activated carbon shall beagreed upon between the user and the supplier as part of thepurchase contract.13. Packaging15.1 The impregnated activated carbon shall be packaged ina durable container in such a way as to minimize degradationof the particles during handling, shipping, and storage. Thecontainer shall be provided with a vapo
