Scope1.1 This specification covers finished fabrics woven from“E” electrical glass fiber yarns that are intended as a reinforc-ing material in laminated plastic

    3、s for structural use. Thisspecification can also be applied to fabrics made of other glasstypes as agreed upon between the purchaser and the supplier.1.2 This specification specifies the terminology, definitions,general requirements, and physical requirements for finishedwoven glass fabrics This spe

    4、cification permits the applicationof sizing materials to the glass fiber yarn during manufacturethat helps facilitate weaving. These organic materials aretypically removed from the greige gabric and replaced with afinish that is compatible with the resin matrix specified in thecontracting documentNO

    5、TE 1Sizing materials on glass fiber yarns, in most cases, areremoved by various cleaning procedures as a first stage in preparing afinished fabric. When these yarn sizing materials are removed during acleaning procedure they need not be compatible with the subsequent resinmatrix.1.3 This specificati

    6、on shows values in both SI units and ininch-pound units. “SI units” is the technically correct name forthe system of metric units known as the International System ofUnits.“ Inch-pound units” is the technically correct name forthe customary units used in the United States. The values in SIunits are

    7、provided as information only; the values stated ininch-pound units are to be regarded as standard.1.4 This specification is one of a series to provide asubstitute for Military Specifications: MIL-Y-1140 Yarn, Cord,Sleeving, Cloth, and Tape-Glass; and MIL-C-9084 Cloth,Glass Finished for Resin Laminat

    19、1.1 atmosphere for testing textiles, nfor glass, air main-tained at a relative humidity of at least 48 % and no greaterthan 67 %, and at a temperature of at least 20C (68F) and nogreater than 25C (77F) .3.1.1.1 DiscussionGlass textiles are used in various prod-ucts such as reinforced plastics, mat-l

    20、ike materials, tire cords,electrical insulation, etc. Each of these materials requiredifferent testing atmospheres. It is the intent of this wide spreadin testing atmosphere to allow testing of glass textiles inrespective laboratories where end product test atmosphererequirements differ. The test at

    21、mospheres for respective prod-ucts should be controlled as specified in Practice D 1776. It isthe opinion of Subcommittee D13.18 that the physical proper-ties cited in respective specifications would not be affected bythe range selected. In any event, the test atmosphere should bestated in the repor

    22、t.3.1.2 continuous filament yarn, na yarn made of filamentsthat extend substantially throughout the length of the yarn.3.1.3 crowfoot weave, na broken-twill weave one-up andthree-down or three-up and one-down with two ends to theright and two ends to the left, commonly referred to as4-harness satin

Classification4.1 The designation of a fabric shall be by style numbersthat are standard throughout the industry. Generally used stylenumbers are listed in numerical order in Table 1.REQUIREMENTS5. Material5

    30、.1 The yarn shall be continuous filament, unless otherwisespecified, free of any free alkali metal salts, such as soda orpotash, and foreign particles, dirt, and other impurities.6. Fabric Count6.1 For fabrics listed in Table 1, the nominal fabric countshall conform to the requirements of Table 1. F

    31、or fabrics notlisted in Table 1, the nominal fabric count shall be agreed uponbetween the purchaser and the supplier. The average count ofwarp ends shall be within two ends of the nominal count andthe average count of the filling picks shall be within two picksof the nominal count.7. Yarn Designatio

Strand Construction10.1 The basis for specifying strand construction is given inSpecification D 578. For fabrics listed in Table 1 o

    37、f thisspecification, the construction of the component strands shallconform to the requirements of Table1 in Specification D 578.For fabrics not listed in Table 1, the construction of thecomponent strands may be agreed upon between the purchaserand the supplier.11. Direction of Twist11.1 The primary

    38、 twist in the singles strands shall be “Z”twist and the final twist in the plied yarns shall be “S” twistunless otherwise agreed upon between the purchaser and thesupplier.12. Twist Level12.1 The nominal twist in the component strands and thefinished yarns shall conform to the requirements of Table

    39、1 inSpecification D 578 unless otherwise agreed upon between thepurchaser and the supplier. The tolerances for the primary twistand the final twist shall conform to Table 2 of this specification.13. Fabric Weave Type13.1 For fabrics listed in Table 1, the fabric weave type shallconform to the requir

    40、ements of Table 1. For fabrics not listedin Table 1, the fabric weave type shall be agreed upon betweenthe purchaser and the supplier.14. Mass Per Unit Area14.1 For fabrics listed in Table 1, the nominal mass per unitarea shall conform to the requirement of Table 1. For fabricsnot listed in Table 1,

    41、 the nominal mass per unit area shall beagreed upon between the purchaser and the supplier. Theaverage mass per unit area for the lot shall conform to therequirements of Table 3.15. Thickness15.1 For fabrics listed in Table 1, the nominal thicknessshall conform to the requirements of Table 1. For fa

    42、brics notlisted in Table 1, the nominal thickness shall be agreed uponbetween the purchaser and the supplier. The average thicknessof the fabric in the lot shall conform to the requirements ofTable 4, unless otherwise specified.16. Breaking Strength16.1 For fabrics listed in Table 1, the minimum bre

    43、akingstrength shall conform to the requirements of Table 1. Forfabrics and/or minimum breaking strengths not listed in Table1, the minimum breaking strength shall be agreed uponbetween the purchaser and the supplier. The average breakingstrength for the lot shall exceed the specified breaking streng

    44、th,and no individual break shall be less than 80 % of the specifiedminimum breaking strength.17. Width17.1 Fabric width shall be agreed upon between the pur-chaser and the supplier. The fabric width, including bothselvages but excluding any feathered edges, shall be nonarrower than the specified wid

    45、th and no more than 13 mm (0.5in) wider than the specified width.NOTE 3During the processing of glass fabrics the selvages may be slitto minimize tension influences. This slit distance is generally excludedwhen measuring the fabric width.18. Length18.1 The fabric roll length, length between splices,

    46、 andnumber of splices per roll shall be agreed upon betweenpurchaser and supplier. All splices must be thermoset unlessotherwise agreed upon between the purchaser and the supplier.19. Ignition Loss19.1 The ignition loss of finished fabric shall be no less than0.05 % and no more than 0.30 % unless ot

    47、herwise agreed uponbetween the purchaser and the supplier.NOTE 4In certain cases the limits of the ignition loss may exceed thatdescribed in 19.1. When this limit is known, it must be specified in thecontractual document.19.2 The type of, nominal level of, and tolerances for fabricfinish shall be ag

    48、reed upon between the purchaser and thesupplier. The fabric finish should be compatible with, andproduce the required performance characteristics for the resinsystem specified in the applicable laminate specification orother procurement document. If the purchaser and the supplieragree that laminate

    49、testing (wet and dry) is to be used todetermine acceptability of the finish content, this fact and thetest method to be used shall be specified in the contractingdocument.20. Fabric Appearance20.1 The woven finished fabric shall be generally uniformin quality and condition, clean, smooth, and free of foreignparticles and defects detrimental to fabrication, appearance, orperformance. Current industry practice for fabrics utilized inelectronic applications is described in Specification IPC-4412in Section 4.4.1 Fabric Appearance.20.2 The fabric in the laboratory sa
