Scope*1.1 This specification covers high-density cellular rubber adhered to carpet, rugs, or various substrates for use as separ

Thisspecification can also be applied to various substrates, such as blown sponge rubber, used independently as carpet underlay.1.2 This specification provides material and di

Summary of Test Method4.1 This specification provides material and dimensional requirements and test methods for specific properties of compressionset, compression resistance or compression force deflection, delamination strength, and accelerated aging.NOTE 2Thi

Significance and Use5.1 The purpose of this specification is to provide meaningful tests for rubber cellular cushion used for carpet or rug underlay.6. Classification6.1 The following classes of flexible, cellular, high-density rubbe

    22、r either adhered to carpets, rugs, and separate substrates carpetsand rugs or used independently as carpet underlay are covered.6.1.1 Class A, for moderate traffic use within one and two family, multi-family, and care-type dwelling units. Moderate trafficareas are areas such as living rooms, dining

    23、rooms, bedrooms, and recreation rooms.6.1.2 Class B, for heavy traffic use for public areas such as lobbies and corridors of multifamily and care-type facilities;entrances, stairways, and elevators.7. Physical Requirements7.1 The material shall conform to the requirements for physical properties pre

    24、scribed in Table 1.8. Sampling and Sample Preparation8.1 Select representative samples of the lot being examined at random as required.8.2 Each sample shall consist of a 200 6 10-mm wide strip taken across the full width of the finished rug, carpet, orunderlayment, or other substrate. For narrow pro

    25、ducts such as runners, it will occasionally be necessary to use a strip 300 mm ormore to furnish all the test specimens. If the product is not homogeneous across the full width, reject the sample and obtain anothersample. Prior to cutting, read the sample requirements so as to plan the cutting patte

    26、rn properly.8.3 Mark off 150 mm from the outer edges of the sample and cut all specimens from inside these lines. Divide this inside widthinto three approximately equal parts. After cutting the specimens, identify the originating area on the foam side.8.4 Cut three 50 6 1 mm by 150 6 3-mm specimens

    27、from the sample, one from each side area and one from the center. centerand label each specimen distinguishing as such. Cut the long dimension parallel to the warp threads of the carpet or rug, ifapplicable.8.5 Die-cut six 10062 mm by 10062-mm specimens, two from each side area and two from the cent

    28、er. Die-cut the specimenswith the foam side against the cutting die.8.6 Cut at least one 50 6 1 mm by 100 6 2-mm specimen from the remaining sample.9. Test Methods9.1 Unless specifically stated otherwise, all tests shall be made in accordance with the methods specified in Sections 911 1618.10. Inspe

    29、ction and Rejection10.1 All tests and inspection shall be made at the place of manufacture prior to shipment unless otherwise specified.10.2 It is acceptable for any material that fails in one or more of the test requirements to be resampled atfrom another area andretested. Failure of the retest sha

    30、ll be cause for final rejection.10.3 The manufacturer shall certify that the material is in compliance with this specification.D3676 18211. Test Conditions11.1 Condition the specimens for a minimum of 24 h at 2362C and 50610 % relative humidity. If other conditions are used,note these conditions in

    31、the report.12. Area Density of Foam Backing12.1 ProcedureWeigh the six 100 mm by 100-mm specimens separately and record the mass to the nearest 0.01 g. Usingsuitable equipment, for example, an electric carving knife and supporting guides, separate the foam backing from the primarycarpet backing by c

    32、utting at the line where the textile component meets the foam component. Cut as closely as possible withoutdamaging the primary carpet backing. Keep the foam specimens for further tests. Remove any remaining foam from the primarycarpet backing by brushing it with a stiff wire-bristle brush. Weigh ea

    33、ch carpet specimen separately and record the mass to thenearest 0.01 g.12.2 CalculationFor each specimen, calculate the mass (M) of the foam as the difference between the total mass and the massof the carpet with foam backing removed. Report the average of the six results. Calculate the mass per uni

    34、t area in kilograms persquare metre by dividing the average mass by the area of the specimen.     45、stant Deflection Compression Set16.1 ProcedureForm two additional sets of plied specimens 50 mm by 50 mm, approximately 25 mm thick, skin side to cutside, using specimens from the compression resistance test if necessary. Determine the thickness of the plied specimens inaccordance with Section 1113.

    46、 and use this plied specimen thickness as the original thickness. Place the plied specimens in a fixtureconsisting of two parallel plates larger than the specimen in surface area. Compress the specimen to 50 6 1 % of its originalthickness as determined above, using appropriate spacers to maintain th

    47、e required thickness. Place the fixture with the compressedspecimen in a circulating air oven at 70 6 1C for 22 6 0.5 h. Remove the fixture from the oven, unclamp immediately, andremove the plied specimen from the fixture. Remeasure the thickness of the plied specimen in accordance with Section 1113
