、n the case of revision, the year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval. This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.1. Scope1.1

、This specification covers requirements and test methodsfor materials, dimensions, workmanship, impact resistance,load-deflection properties, dimensional stability, and jointtightness of plain-end or bell-end styrene-rubber (SR) plasticdrain pipe and fittings in sizes 2 through 6 in.1.2 The values st

、ated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas the standard. The values given in parentheses are forinformation only.1.3 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to thetest methods portion, Section 8, of this specification: Thisstandard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns,

、if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the userof this standard to establish appropriate safety and healthpractices and determine the applicability of regulatory limita-tions prior to use.2. 10、e abbreviationfor styrene-rubber plastics is SR.4. Significance and Use4.1 The requirements for this specification are intended toprovide pipe and fittings suitable for nonpressure undergrounddrainage of sewage and certain other liquid wastes, in appli-cations outside the building limits, where dime

、nsional stability, resistance to aging, and strong eight joints are required. Theplastic drain pipe and fittings described in this specification areintended for use in the following applications:4.1.1 House connections to septic tanks.4.1.2 Footing drains (foundation drains).4.1.3 Storm drainage.4.2

、The pipe should be installed in accordance with PracticeD 2321.5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 MaterialsThe pipe and fittings shall be made ofstyrene-rubber (SR) plastics meeting the following require-ments:5.1.1 The SR plastics compound shall contain at least 50 %styrene plastics, combined with rub

、bers to a minimum rubbercontent of 5 %, and compounding materials such as antioxi-dants and lubricants, and may contain up to 15 % acrylonitrile1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee F17 on PlasticPiping Systems and is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee F17.65 on Land

、the requirements of this specifi-cation.6. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance6.1 WorkmanshipThe pipe shall be homogeneousthroughout and essentially uniform in color, opacity, density, and other properties. The inside and outside surfaces shall besemimatte or glossy in appearance and free of chalking

、, sticky,or tacky material. The pipe walls shall be free of cracks, holes, blisters, voids, foreign inclusion, or other defects that arevisible to the naked eye and that may affect the wall integrity.Holes deliberately placed in perforated pipe are acceptable. The surfaces shall be free of excessive b

Bloom orchalking may develop in pipe exposed to direct rays of the sun(ultraviolet radiant energy) for extended periods and conse-quently these requirements do not apply to pipe after extendedexposure to direct rays of the sun.6.2 Pipe Dimensions:6.2.1 Pipe DiametersThe outside and inside diam

、the respectiveminimum thickness listed for the equivalent pipe wall in Table2. For reducing fittings or those with smaller inlets, theminimum wall thickness of each inlet shall be no less than theminimum wall thickness for that size pipe.6.3.3 Socket DepthThe socket depth shall be not less thanthat

、shown in Table 2 when measured in accordance with 8.7.3.6.3.4 Laying LengthThe laying length shall meet therequirements shown in Table 3. All dimensions are minimumwith a negative tolerance of zero.6.4 Impact StrengthThe impact strength of the pipe andfittings shall not be less than the values given

、 in Table 4 whentested in accordance with 8.9.NOTE 1This test is intended only as a quality control test, not as asimulated service test.6.5 Pipe StiffnessThe pipe stiffness at 5 % deflection shallbe not less than the values given in Table 5 when tested inaccordance with 8.10. This requirement does

、not apply tofittings.NOTE 2The 5 % deflection criterion, which was arbitrarily selectedfor testing convenience, should not be considered as a limitation withrespect to in-use deflection. The engineer is responsible for establishingthe acceptable deflection limit.NOTE 3The strength and load-carrying

、capabilities of plastic drainand sewer pipe are measured and reported as Pipe Stiffness, which isdetermined in accordance with Test Method D 2412. The term “crushstrength” is not applicable to plastic piping because (a) the values obtainedcan be significantly different, depending on the bedding, loa

、ding, ortesting technique used; and (b) the term derives from rigid pipe and refersto its ultimate strength at rupture.6.6 FlatteningThe pipe shall show no evidence of split-ting, cracking, or breaking at 20 % deflection when tested inaccordance with 8.8.6.7 Dimensional StabilityThe average decrease

、 in insidediameter of pipe and fittings shall not exceed 10 % when testedin accordance with 8.11.6.8 Solvent CementSolvent cements shall meet the re-quirements of Specification D 3122.6.9 Joint TightnessJoints made with pipe and fittings shallnot leak when tested in accordance with 8.12.TABLE 1 Dime
