    3、Test Method Standard No. 175a.1. Scope1.1 This practice provides a uniform procedure for theexposure of adhesively bonded substrates to selected environ-ments. This practice also provides for a qualitative measure ofthe adhesive bond strength using existing standard methodsafter exposure.1.2 The val

The values given in parentheses are for informationonly.1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. Significance and Use5.1 This practice is designed to determine the general effectsof chemical reagents on the strength of the

    10、bonded system. Itcannot distinguish between adsorption in the bulk adhesive orpenetration at the adhesive/substrate interface.6. Apparatus6.1 The apparatus consists of containers for test specimensand a cabinet for maintaining a temperature of 23 6 3C (73 65F). Other suitable apparatus is required f

    11、or immersingspecimens above and below room temperature.NOTE 1Exercise care in the choice of materials with respect toadherend and containers. Confirm that they are unaffected by the chemi-cals and solvents used in this practice.6.2 Apparatus for making strength tests is specified in themethod for th

    12、e property to be measured.7. Reagents7.1 Directions for preparations of reagents are for approxi-mately 1-L quantities. All percentages are by weight.7.2 Standard chemical reagents are selected from the listgiven in Practices D543. Standard oils and fuels are selectedfrom the list given in Test Meth

Test Specimens9.1 The test specimens are identical with those

    20、required inASTM test methods for the strength properties to be measured,and the conditioning period before exposure corresponds to theconditioning period before testing as given in the specifiedASTM test method.9.2 Select matched specimens for control and exposuretreatments.10. Procedure10.1 Place e

    21、ach specimen in a separate container and totallyimmerse in a sufficient quantity of the reagent for seven days ata temperature of 23 6 3C (73 6 5F) (Note 3). Place thespecimen on edge in the container in the case of flat specimensso that it is supported at an angle from the bottom and side wallof th

    22、e container. Stir the reagent every 24 h by moderatemanual rotation of the container. Maintain the strength of thechemical solutions constant. Use completely closed containersto minimize outgassing or any change in concentration (forexample, due to hygroscopicity). Where the reagent-specimencombinat

    23、ion may result in vaporizing or outgassing, select thecontainer to withstand the pressure resulting from the testtemperature so that the test reagent stays liquid.10.1.1 The volume of reagent used is ten times the volumeof the specimen.NOTE 3Selection of an alternative test temperature and immersion

    24、time is permissible upon agreement between the purchaser and themanufacturer. The alternative test temperature may be selected from thetable in Practice D1151.10.2 A short time test is permissible for the purpose ofeliminating those materials that are unsuitable or undulyaffected by the reagents, pe

    25、rformed on films or suitablespecimens of the adhesive prepared in accordance with themanufacturers instructions with regard to drying time, cure,etc.10.3 Remove the individual specimen from the reagent.Rinse aqueous reagents off the specimen with distilled water.Rinse off other reagents with a suita

    26、ble organic solvent. Blotthe specimen dry with a clean dry cloth or blotting paper.Determine the strength of the specimen immediately at atemperature of 23 6 3C (73 6 5F) in accordance with thespecified method (see Note 5).10.4 Using air as the contact medium, condition the controlspecimens at 23 6

    27、3C and 50 6 5 % relative humidity duringthe same seven days that the test specimens are exposed to thechemical treatment. Determine the strength of the controlspecimens, testing in accordance with the specified method andat a temperature of 23 6 3C, and calculate the average controlstrength.10.4.1 W

    28、hen an alternative temperature is selected forexposure of test specimens (see Note 3 and Note 5), hold thecontrol specimens in a closed container for the seven-dayperiod at the same temperature as the test specimens. Returnthe controls to 23 6 3C before testing.NOTE 4Adhesives may be subjected to sa

    29、lt spray (fog) testing. UseTest Method B117.NOTE 5Selection of an alternative temperature for determining thestrength of the specimen is permissible upon agreement between thepurchaser and the manufacturer. The alternative temperature is selectedfrom the table in Practice D1151.11. Report11.1 Report

    30、 the following information:11.1.1 The individual and average strength property valuesof the control specimens and the temperature at which thevalues were determined.11.1.2 Report the following information for each adhesivetested in all the standard reagents and any specified supple-mentary reagents:

    31、11.1.2.1 Immersion time and temperature,11.1.2.2 Strength property value of each specimen andtemperature at which value was determined,11.1.2.3 Percentage change in average strength resultingfrom the immersion test, calculated to the nearest 1 % takingthe average strength property value of control t

    32、est specimens as100 %,11.1.2.4 General appearance and behavior of each specimenduring and after immersion,11.1.2.5 Type of specimen,11.1.2.6 Trade name and type of adhesive used,11.1.2.7 ASTM designation of materials and test methodused, and11.1.2.8 Application, drying, and curing conditions used in

    33、preparing the specimens.D896 04 (2017)212. Precision and Bias12.1 This is a comparative test of adhesive strength afterexposure. Precision and bias is a function of the test methodsselected.
