    4、ctober 2007.1. Scope1.1 The visual surface preparation standards consist of aseries of color prints available as separate publications. Threedifferent sets of photographs are described in this standard,designated as Method A (ISO/Swedish Standard2) and MethodB and C (SSPC Standards3). The three meth

    5、ods differ in thedepiction of the initial surface, in the definition and depictionof the cleaning conditions, and in the number of cleaningmethods included. Because of these differences, the specifiershould state whether Method A, Method B, or C should beused.1.2 The colored visual surface preparati

    6、on standards repre-sent different conditions of hot rolled steel before and aftersurface preparation. Prior to cleaning, there are four rustgrades, A to D, that cover the range from intact mill scale to100 % rusted and pitted steel. The standards then depict theappearance of the four grades after cl

    7、eaning by one or moremethods (for example, blast cleaning) to various degrees ofthoroughness. In addition, Method C includes three paintedconditions that contain various degrees of rusting. The Stan-dard4depicts these conditions after various grades of hand andpower tool cleaning.2. Referenced Docum

    10、nificance and Use4.1 The appearance of the various degrees of blast cleaningare influenced by the initial rust grades of the steel beingcleaned. The standards aid visually in judging and evaluatingthe degree of rusting before cleaning and the degree of cleaningof steel surfaces prior to painting.4.2
