Asuperscript epsilon (e) indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.This standard has been approved for use by agencies of the Department of Defense.1. Scope1.1 This

    3、 specification covers poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC)pipe made in Schedule 40, 80, and 120 sizes and pressure-ratedfor water (see Appendix X1). Included are criteria for classi-fying PVC plastic pipe materials and PVC plastic pipe, asystem of nomenclature for PVC plastic pipe, and requirementsand test me

    4、thods for materials, workmanship, dimensions,sustained pressure, burst pressure, flattening, and extrusionquality. Methods of marking are also given.1.2 The products covered by this specification are intendedfor use with the distribution of pressurized liquids only, whichare chemically compatible wi

    5、th the piping materials. Due toinherent hazards associated with testing components and sys-tems with compressed air or other compressed gases somemanufacturers do not allow pneumatic testing of their products.Consult with specific product/component manufacturers fortheir specific testing procedures

    6、prior to pneumatic testing.NOTE 1Pressurized (compressed) air or other compressed gasescontain large amounts of stored energy which present serious safteyhazards should a system fail for any reason.NOTE 2This standard specifies dimensional, performance and testrequirements for plumbing and fluid han

    7、dling applications, but does notaddress venting of combustion gases.1.3 The text of this specification references notes, footnotes,and appendixes which provide explanatory material. Thesenotes and footnotes (excluding those in tables and figures) shallnot be considered as requirements of the specifi

The values given in parentheses are forinformation only.1.5 The following safety hazards caveat pertains only to thetest methods portion, Section 8, of this specification: Thisstandard does not purport to address all

It is the responsibility of the userof this standard to establish appropriate safety and healthpractices and determine the applicability of regulatory limita-tions prior to use.     10、lastic pipes, Schedules 40 and 80, which wereformerly included in this specification, are now covered by SpecificationF 441/ F441M.NOTE 4The sustained and burst pressure test requirements, and thepressure ratings in the Appendix X1, are calculated from stress valuesobtained from tests made on pipe 4

    11、 in. (100 mm) and smaller. However,tests conducted on pipe as large as 24-in. (600-mm) diameter have shownthese stress values to be valid for larger diameter PVC pipe.NOTE 5PVC pipe made to this specification is often belled for use asline pipe. The abbre-viation for poly(vinyl chloride) plastic is PVC.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 hydrostatic design stressthe estimated maximumtensile stress the material is capable of withstanding continu-ously with a high degree of ce

    21、rtainty that failure of the pipewill not occur. This stress is circumferential when internalhydrostatic water pressure is applied.3.2.2 pressure rating (PR)the estimated maximum waterpressure the pipe is capable of withstanding continuously witha high degree of certainty that failure of the pipe wil

    22、l not occur.3.2.3 relation between dimensions, design stress, and pres-sure ratingthe following expression, commonly known asthe ISO equation,5is used in this specification to relatedimensions, hydrostatic design stress, and pressure rating:2S/P 5 D0/t! 1where:S = hydrostatic design stress, psi (or

(or mm).3.2.4 standard thermoplastic pipe materials designationcodethe pipe materials designation code shall consist of theabbreviation PVC for the type of plastic, followed by theAST

    24、M type and grade inArabic numerals and the design stressin units of 100 psi (0.7 MPa) with any decimal figures dropped.When the design stress code contains less than two figures, acipher shall be used before the number. Thus a completematerial code shall consist of three letters and four figures for

    25、PVC plastic pipe materials (see Section 5).4. Classification4.1 GeneralThis specification covers PVC pipe made toand marked with one of six type/grade/design stress designa-tions (see X1.2) in Schedule 40, 80, and 120 wall sizes.4.2 Hydrostatic Design StressesThis specification cov-ers pipe made fro

    26、m PVC plastics as defined by four hydrostaticdesign stresses which have been developed on the basis oflong-term tests (Appendix X1).5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 GeneralPoly(vinyl chloride) plastics used to makepipe meeting the requirements of this specification are catego-rized by means of two cr

    27、iteria, namely, (1) short-term strengthtests and (2) long-term strength tests.NOTE 6The PVC pipe intended for use in the transport of potablewater should be evaluated and certified as safe for this purpose by a testingagency acceptable to the local health authority. The evaluation should bein accord

    28、ance with requirements for chemical extraction, taste, and odorsthat are no less restrictive than those included in NSF Standard No. 14.The seal or mark of the laboratory making the evaluation should beincluded on the pipe. See pipe marking requirement for reclaimed watersystems.5.2 Basic MaterialsT

    29、his specification covers pipe madefrom PVC plastics having certain physical and chemicalproperties as described in Specification D 1784.5.3 CompoundThe PVC compounds used for this pipeshall equal or exceed the following classes described inSpecification D 1784; PVC 12454, or 14333.5.4 Rework Materia

    30、lThe manufacturer shall use only hisown clean rework pipe material and the pipe produced shallmeet all the requirements of this specification.6. Requirements6.1 Dimensions and Tolerances:6.1.1 Dimensions and tolerances shall be as shown in Table1 and Table 2 when measured in accordance with Test Met

    31、hodD 2122. The tolerances for out-of-roundness shall apply onlyto pipe prior to shipment.6.2 Sustained PressureThe pipe shall not fail, balloon,burst, or weep as defined in Test Method D 1598, at the testpressures given in Tables 3-5 when tested in accordance with8.4.6.2.1 Accelerated Regression Tes

    32、tThe accelerated regres-sion test shall be used in place of both the sustained and burstpressure tests, at the option of the manufacturer. The test shallbe conducted in accordance with 8.4.1. The pipe shall demon-strate a hydrostatic design basis projection at the 100 000-hintercept that meets the h

    33、ydrostatic design basis categoryrequirement (see Tables 3-5 and Test Method D 2837) for thePVC material used in its manufacture. (Example: PVC 1120pipe must have a minimum 100 000-h projection of 3830 psi(26.40 MPa) and 85 % lower confidence limit (LCL).6.3 Burst PressureThe minimum burst pressures

    34、for PVCplastic pipe shall be as given in Table 6, when determined inaccordance with Test Method D 1599.NOTE 7Times greater than 60 s may be needed to bring large sizespecimens to burst pressure.
