Scope1.1 This specification covers high-temperature fiber blanketthermal insulation for use from ambient up to 3000F(1649C).1.2 This standard do

    3、es not purport to address all of thesafety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is theresponsibility of the user of this standard to establish appro-priate safety and health practices and determine the applica-bility of regulatory limitations prior to use.1.3 When the potential exists that

    4、the installation or use ofthermal insulation materials, accessories, and systems will posesafety or health problems, the manufacturers shall provide theuser with appropriate current information regarding any knownproblems associated with the recommended use of the prod-ucts, and shall also recommend

    5、 protective measures to beemployed in their safe utilization. The user shall establishappropriate safety and health practices and determine theapplicability of regulatory requirements prior to use.1.4 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas the standard. Terminology3.1 DefinitionsTerminology C71 and

    12、 Terminology C168shall be considered as applying to the terms used in thisstandard.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 fibersthe fibers shall be refractory oxides, processedfrom a molten state into fibrous form.3.2.2 high-temperature fiber thermal insulation a thermalinsulation,

    13、 varying in flexibility, composed of refractory inor-ganic fibers, with or without binder added, and furnished ineither flat sheets or rolls.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee C16 onThermal Insulation and is the direct responsibility of Subcommittee C16.23 onBlanket and

Classification4.1 The general-type product governed by th

    16、is specificationis blanket or batt composed of inorganic refractory fibers.4.2 TypesThe product is separated into types based upontemperatures of use (Table 1).4.3 GradesThe product is separated into grades basedupon its maximum Apparent Thermal Conductivity values (seeTable 2) and minimum Tensile S

    17、trength values (see Table 3).5. Ordering Information5.1 High-temperature fiber blanket thermal insulation isnormally purchased on the basis of brand name, type, grade,length, width, thickness, and total square footage as specifiedin the purchase order.5.2 The type and grade for the intended service

    18、shall be asspecified by the user with the assistance of the supplier wheredesirable.5.3 The purchaser shall be permitted to specify, inspect andsample the material.5.4 When a certification or test report, or both, is required,this shall be specified by the purchaser.6. Materials and Manufacture6.1 C

    19、ompositionHigh temperature fiber thermal insula-tion shall be composed of fibers, made of metallic oxides of,but not limited to, silicon, aluminum, calcium, and magnesium.The raw materials, processed from the molten state into spunfibers, are then mechanically interlocked through a needlingprocess i

    20、nto insulation blanket felts with out the use ofchemical binders.7. Physical and Mechanical, and Chemical PropertiesRequirements7.1 Apparent Thermal Conductivity shall conform to therequirements of Table 2 when tested in accordance with 11.1.2.7.2 Tensile Strengthshall conform to the requirements of

    21、Table 3 when tested in accordance with 11.1.5.7.3 Flexibilityshall be classified as flexible when tested inaccordance with 11.1.8.7.4 Maximum Use Temperatureshall conform to the re-quirements of 4.2 when tested in accordance with 11.1.4.7.5 Non-fibrous content (shot)shall be limited to a maxi-mum of

    22、 30% by weight when testing in accordance with11.1.3.7.6 Linear Shrinkageshall be limited to a maximum of5%, after exposure to the Maximum Use Temperature, inaccordance with 11.1.4.8. Dimensions, Mass, and Permissible Variations8.1 Rolls or flat sheets of blanket are normally furnished instandard di

    23、mensions as shown in Table 4,Table 5, and Table 6.8.2 The standard length, width, and thickness combinationsavailable are a function of the type and grade. Contact thesupplier for information on standard or non-standard dimen-sion and combinations.8.3 The maximum density (determined in accordance wi

    24、thTest Method C167) specified in Table 4 for Grades 3, 4, 6, 8,10, and 12 are for weight design purposes only.9. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance9.1 The insulation shall indicate good workmanship infabrication by a uniform appearance, shall not have visibledefects such as tears and holes that wil

    25、l adversely affect theservice quality, and shall be free from foreign materials.10. Sampling10.1 The insulation shall be sampled for the purposes of testin accordance with Practice C390. Specific provision forsampling shall be agreed upon between the supplier and thepurchaser.11. Test Methods11.1 Th

    26、e properties enumerated in this specification shall bedetermined in accordance with the following test methods:11.1.1 Dimensional Measurement and DensityTest Meth-ods C167. Density is based on nominal thickness.11.1.2 Apparent Thermal Conductivity Test in accordancewith Test Methods C177. Temperatur

    27、e of test shall be inaccordance with Practice .11.1.2.1 Practice C1058. shall be used to obtain recom-mended test temperature combinations for testing purposes.11.1.2.2 As specified in Practice C1045, the range of testconditions must include at least one test where the hot surfacetemperature is grea

    28、ter than, or equal to, the hot limit of thetemperature range of desired data and at least one test wherethe cold surface temperature is less than, or equal to, the coldlimit of the temperature range desired. The exception to thisrequirement is given in 11.1.2.2(1) below. At least two addi-tional tes

    29、ts shall be distributed somewhat evenly over the restof the temperature range.(1) In cases where the maximum temperature of the C177test device is exceeded by the required hot surface temperatureas stipulated in 11.1.2.2, it is acceptable to operate one hotplate at the C177 upper temperature limit a

    30、nd the other hotplate at the lower temperature that gives the target meantemperature.11.1.2.3 Final analysis of the thermal data shall be con-ducted in accordance with Practice C1045 to generate athermal conductivity versus mean temperature relationship forthe specimen. Practice C1045 and the specif

    31、ic hot and coldsurface temperatures is required to determine the effectivethermal conductivity for comparison to the specification re-quirements.11.1.2.4 Final step of Practice C1045 analysis would be tocalculate the thermal conductivity using the equations gener-ated at a set of mean temperatures f

    33、2several existing specifications will contain mean temperaturedata from tests conducted at specific hot and cold surfacetemperatures. In these cases, it is possible that the conductivitywill be a as a function of temperature and that the PracticeC1045 analysis will provide different results. To ensu

    34、re that thedata is compatible, a Practice C680 analysis, using the con-ductivity versus temperature relationship from Practice C1045and the specific hot and cold surface temperatures, is requiredto determine the effective thermal conductivity for comparisonto the specification requirements.11.1.3 No

    35、n-Fibrous Content (Shot)Test Method C1335Procedure B, with the following exceptions.11.1.3.1 Use U.S. Standard Sieves No. 30, 50, and 70. Thespecimen shall first be fired in a furnace at the maximum usetemperature for the particular Type for a duration of 5h . Afterpassing all particles and fine fib

    36、er through Sieve No. 50,mechanically shake Sieve No. 70 for 30 min.11.1.3.2 For the purposes of this specification, the nonfibrous content (that is, shot) are those not passing through aU.S. Standard No. 70 sieve (210 m opening). The shot contentis the cumulative weight of shot remaining on 30-, 50-

    37、, and70-mesh screens.11.1.4 Linear Shrinkage and Temperature of UseTestMethod C356, except that dimensions shall be determined byTest Methods C167. The temperature of test shall be thetemperature of use, as specified in 4.2.11.1.5 Tensile Strength Test Methods C209, Section 12(parallel to surface),

    38、except that rate of separation of the jawsshall be 1 to 2 in./min (25 to 50 mm/min).11.1.6 Corrosiveness to SteelTest in accordance with thecorrosiveness method of Specification C665.11.1.7 Maximum Use Temperature and Exothermic Tem-perature RiseTest in accordance with Test Method C411andthe hot ser

    39、vice performance of Practice C447 at the maximumuse temperature. All types shall be tested at the insulationsstated maximum thickness, in either single or multiple layerconfigurations.11.1.8 FlexibilityTest in accordance with Test MethodC1101/C1101M (except use 1 in. (25.4 mm) thick material) forcla
