Scope1.1 This specification covers semidense mineral fiber

    3、siding(shingles, clapboards, and sheets) designed to provide protec-tion for the weather-exposed sidewall surfaces of buildings.These sidings are nailable with or without prepunched holes.1.2 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as thestandard. The values stated in parentheses are provid

    4、ed forinformation only.1.3 WarningBreathing of asbestos dust is hazardous.Asbestos and asbestos products present demonstrated healthrisks for users and for those with whom they come into contact.In addition to other precautions, when working with asbestos-cement products, minimize the dust that resu

Classification3.1 Semidense mineral fiber siding shall be one of thefollowing types, as specified:3.1.1 Type I, ShinglesUniform thickness, rectangular inshape, and having wavy, random, thatched, straight or irregularbutts. Shingles are limited to 1.22 m (48 in.) in maximumlength and 0.

    9、41 m (16 in.) in maximum width. Shingles areapplied in horizontal lapped courses. The specified width isgenerally less than the specified length.3.1.2 Type II, ClapboardsUniform thickness, rectangularin shape and in lengths from 1.24 m (49 in.) to 3.66 m (144 in.)and widths up to 0.41 m (16 in.). Th

    10、e clapboards are applied inhorizontal lapped courses.3.1.3 Type III, SheetsUniform thickness, rectangular inshape and usually in 1.22-m (48-in.) widths and 1.22 to 3.66-m(48 to 144-in.) lengths. The sheets are generally appliedvertically to sheathed or unsheathed sidewalls.4. Materials and Manufactu

    11、re4.1 Semidense mineral fiber sidings are composed of acombination of asbestos fibers, portland cement or portlandblast-furnace slag cement and mineral fillers, with or withoutthe addition of organic fibers, curing agents, water repellentsubstances, coatings, or pigments, formed under pressure andcu

    12、red to meet the physical requirements of this specification.5. Physical Properties5.1 Flexural StrengthThe average breaking load obtainedby loading equally and simultaneously at both one-third pointsof the span shall not be less than as shown in Table 1.5.2 DeflectionAt the ultimate breaking load ob

United States15.3 Water-Absorption SwellingThe average thickness in-crease resulting from water

    17、absorption shall not exceed 2 %.5.4 Product DurabilityThe product shall withstand sixcomplete cycles of accelerated aging conducted in accordancewith Section 120 of Test Methods D1037, and exhibit novisible delamination. The average breaking load of the driedtest specimens after cycling shall not sh

    18、ow a decrease instrength of more than 10 % when compared with the corre-sponding values obtained from tests made on companioncontrol specimens tested in accordance with 5.1.5.5 DensityThe average density as measured in the drystate shall be not less than 800 kg/m3(50 lb/ft3).5.6 Refer to Terminology

    19、 C460 for terminology.6. Dimensions, Mass, and Permissible Variations6.1 Siding covered by this specification shall conform to thedimensions prescribed in Table 2.6.2 TolerancesThe permissible variation from the nomi-nal width or length shall be 3.2 mm (618 in.), and theminimum thickness shall be 7.

    20、5 mm (0.30 in.) for nominal38-in. thick product and 6.1 mm (0.24 in.) for nominal14-in.thick product as measured after conditioning for a minimum of24hat706 3F (216 1.6C) and 50 % relative humidity. Thedeviation from squareness shall not exceed 1.3 mm/m (164in./ft) of width or length when measured w

    21、ith a feeler gage and0.61-m (2-ft) metal carpenters square.7. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance7.1 WorkmanshipThe product shall be free of defects thatwill impair appearance, erection, or serviceability.7.2 Color and FinishThe exposed surface of the sidingmay be smooth, granuled, or otherwise text

    22、ured as specified.The natural color is a light tan or gray and the surface may beuncoated, factory primed, or prefinished, as specified.7.3 Holes for Nails and Fasteners:7.3.1 Type I, ShinglesUnless otherwise specified, shinglesshall be furnished with nail holes so placed as to provide aminimum top

    23、lap of 25.4 mm (1 in.).7.3.2 Type II, ClapboardsUnless otherwise specified,clapboards shall be supplied without nail holes. These productsare nailable and intended to be applied to provide a minimumtop lap of 25.4 mm (1 in.).7.3.3 Type III, SheetsSheets are supplied without nailholes, and are normal

    24、ly applied vertically in accordance withaccepted practices.8. Nails8.1 Nail MaterialsAll nails shall be of nonstaining,corrosion-resistant material.8.2 Type I ProductThe face nails for Type I shingles shallbe furnished by the shingle manufacturer and have shankssized to enter the nail holes where pr

Thenails shall be long enough to hold the siding units securely toa nailing base.8.3 Type II and Type III ProductsThe nails used with TypeII and Type III products shall be of sufficient length to providea minimum 25.4-mm (1-in.) penetration into the studs whensheathing is used a

    26、nd a minimum 38-mm (112-in.) penetrationinto the studs when sheathing is omitted.9. Sampling and Test Procedures9.1 Sampling FrequencyFrom each shipment or fractionthereof representing a product of the same type, a number ofshingles, clapboards, or sheets shall be taken at random. Table3 shows the n

    27、umber of units to be taken from shipments ofvarious sizes.9.2 Flexural Strength and Deflection Tests:9.2.1 Preparation of Test SpecimensCut a single specimen150 6 2mm(66116 in.) in width and 300 6 2mm(126116in.) in length from each unit. Cut the specimens in such amanner that the 300-mm (12-in.) dim

    28、ension of each specimenis parallel to the long dimension for Types II and III. For TypeI, cut one half of the specimens as above and cut one half at aright angle thereto, provided that the shingle size permits. Donot test cracked or otherwise damaged specimens, but providesubstitute specimens.9.2.1.

    29、1 Warningsee .9.2.2 ProcedureDry each 150 300-mm (6 12-in.)specimen to constant mass in a ventilated oven at a temperatureof 100 to 105C, (212 to 220F), and cool to room temperaturein a desiccator. Record the dry mass of each cooled specimen.Determine the flexural strength of each specimen by placin

    30、gthe specimen on supports that cannot exert longitudinal con-straint rocker-type bearing edges, rollers, etc., with a 3.2-mm(18-in.) minimum and a 13-mm (12-in.) maximum radius andapplying the load at midspan through a similar edge bearingagainst the finished surface of the specimen. The test span s

    31、hallbe 254 6 2mm(106116 in.) and the load lines and supportsshall be parallel. Mount a dial micrometer reading to 0.02 mm(0.001 in.), or an equally sensitive apparatus to bear on thespecimen at midspan, to determine the deflection of thespecimen at the center of the test span. Increase the loadappli

    32、ed at a uniform rate such as will result in failure of thespecimen in approximately 1 min. The error in the load readingshall not exceed 2 N (0.5 lbf). Record the deflection for eachspecimen at maximum load. Take the flexural strength as theultimate load, in newtons (or pounds-force).9.3 Water Absor

    33、ption Swelling:9.3.1 Sample PreparationFor swelling tests, prepare a setof specimens 305 by 305 mm (12 by 12 in.) with all four edgestrimmed less than 12 in., all units shall be cut with the 12-in.dimension of each specimen parallel to the long dimension ofTABLE 1 Physical RequirementsNominalThickne

The width dimension shall be that of the specimen forspecimens less than 12 in. wide.9.3.2 Thickness Measurement fo

    35、r Swelling TestMeasurethe thickness of each test specimen by placing a smooth metalplate of uniform thickness and with dimensions approximately0.4 by 101 by 101 mm (164 by 4 by 4 in.) against the finished,textured, or weather-exposed surface of the specimen. Using amicrometer caliper reading to 0.03

    36、 mm (0.001 in.), measure theoverall thickness of metal plate and specimen at the approxi-mate midpoint of each edge of the specimen and at least 12.7mm (12 in.) from the edge of the specimen. Subtract themeasured thickness of the metal plate from each measurementand average the four measurements to

    37、give the specimenthickness.9.3.3 ProcedureDry the specimens that are prepared inaccordance with 10.3.1 for 24 6 1 h at a temperature of 220 65F (104 6 3C). Measure the thickness of each specimen inaccordance with 10.3.2. Submerge the specimens horizontallyunder 1 in. of water maintained at 70 6 5F (

    38、21 6 3C) for 24h. Remove and blot off surface water, remeasure the thicknessat the same locations on the specimen, and express the swellingas percentage of thickness increase based on the thickness afterconditioning.9.4 Product DurabilityRepeat the preparation of a secondset of test specimens in acc

    39、ordance with 10.2.1. Subject this setof test specimens to accelerated aging cycles in accordancewith Test Methods D1037.At the end of the cycling procedure,examine each specimen and record any visible evidence ofswelling, checking or cracking. Test the samples for flexuralstrength in accordance with

    40、 10.2.2 and the requirements of 5.4.9.5 DensityWeigh the dry specimens that have been usedin the flexural strength test and submerge them for 24 612 hin clean water at from 60 to 80F (15.5 to 27C). Then weigheach sample while submerged in water, and reweigh in air afterblotting off surface water. Th

    41、e balances used for the weighingsshould be accurate to 0.5 %. Report the density as the averagevalue for all specimens tested. Calculate the density for eachspecimen as follows:Wet mass in air, g 2 mass in water, g 5 volume, cm3(1)Density, lb/ft35 dry mass, g/volume, cm3! 362.43 (2)10. Inspection an

    42、d Certification10.1 Inspection and certification of the material shall be asagreed upon by the purchaser and seller as part of the purchasecontract.11. Rejection and Rehearing11.1 Cause for RejectionIf the sample fails to conform toany one of the requirements of this specification, a secondsample fr

    43、om the same lot shall be prepared and tested. Theresults of the retest shall be averaged with the results of theoriginal test to determine compliance with this specification.11.2 RetestFailure to conform to any one of the require-ments of this specification, upon retest as prescribed above,shall con

    44、stitute grounds for rejection. In case of rejection, theseller shall have the right to reinspect the rejected shipment andresubmit the lot after removal of the portion of the shipmentnot conforming to the specified requirements, provided this isdone within 20 days after receipt of notice of the spec

    45、ific causefor rejection.12. Packaging and Package Marking12.1 Commercial UnitsThe commercial unit is one squarefor marketing the Type I shingles products. One square issufficient material to cover 9.29 m2(100 ft2) of wall area whenapplied according to accepted practices. The Type II clap-boards and

    46、Type III sheets are usually marketed in units of 92.9m2(1000 ft2).12.2 Commercial PackagingThe semidense mineral fibersiding shall be packaged in accordance with accepted commer-cial practice to assure acceptance by common carrier.12.3 Job ProtectionPackages of the product shall bestacked on support

    47、s that will keep it off the ground; level, flat,and shall be covered to provide protection from the weatheruntil used.
