    25、 women used in prostitution never get heard; they are silenced by themselves that are attached to being Black and being used in the sex industry. These are the “bad girls, they get what they deserve, they tike it, prostitution is; a free choice“. Racism makes Black women and girls especially vulnera

    26、ble to sexual exploitation and deeps them trapped in the sex industry. It does this by limiting educational and career opportunities for African Americans in this country. It does this through a welfare system that has divided the poor Black family. If a woman works or her childrens father contribut

    27、es to their support, her check and food stamps are cut in that amount. Poor Black women are left alone to fend for themselves and their children on inadequate A. F. D. C. grants. Black women are shamed into silence about how prostitution has impacted their lives. Black women used in prostitution are

    28、 isolated from mainstream society, their only contacts are White Johns, pimps and drug dealers. There are limited services in the community specifically for Black women in white-dominated agencies. Because the Black community and the community at large fail to understand the prostitution is violence

    29、 against women; this victimization is not only tolerated, but promoted as a career choice for Black women. There is a belief that prostitution is accepted in the Black community. This is wrong. Prostitution is not accepted; it s been imposed on African Americans since the days of slavery when the ma

    30、ster came out to the field and picked any Black woman he chose to have sex with. Today middle class white men from the suburbs drive through the ghettos of African Americans to pick out any Black woman or girl he wants, as if our cities were his own private plantation. White men continue to assume f

    31、ree access to Black women. If the feminist movement is truly a movement that believes in the liberation of all women, we must understand that liberation cannot come to some women and not others. Women in prostitution have been largely ignored by the mainstream feminist movement, as have women of col

    32、or, particularly Black women. To liberate all women, we must work to end racism and sexual bondage simultaneousdly. White women must make a concerned effort to end racism, beginning with an examination of their own racism, and from there to work within their own communities. This goes far beyond att

    33、ending anti-racism trainings. Feminist organizations must be willing to take active stands against racist injustice in society. For example, too few feminist organizations in the country took an official position condemning the treatment to Rodney King and the subsequent exoneration (负罪 ) of the off

    34、icers who assaulted him. Not one feminist organization in Minnesota expressed outrage at the exoneration of the white police officer who killed Tycel Nelson. How can mainstream feminists claim to care about African American women and racism, and not take action when our sons, partners and fathers ar

    35、e subjected to daily harassment and abuse by police. A key issue for Black women is that more of our men fill prisons than universities. How can mainstream feminists claim to care about Black women and racism when they fail to speak out against the white men who pay for the right to sexually abuse o

    36、ur daughters and sisters, or against the police who target these same women for arrest and imprisonment. Meanwhile, their abusers, the Johns that prey on our community, go free. Its time for white feminists to stand beside us, to fight racist and sexist oppression, to take the same risks we do. Bein

    37、g black and female in a white supremacist, male supremacist culture creates a very tight difficult space in which Black women struggle to survive. This place is where racism and sexism intersect. The mainstream feminist community must actively fight to end both systems. If not, the cry “sisterhood i

For example, a woman who has a good job, but whose mother has just died, might be feeling very good about herself and in control of her work life, but

    47、the pleasure side could be damaged for a time. The concepts of mastery and pleasure can help us identify the sources of well-being for women, and remedy past mistakes. In the past, women were encouraged to look only at the feeling side of life as the source of all well-being. But we know that both m

    48、astery and pleasure are critical. And mastery seems to be achieved largely through work. In our study, all the groups of employed women rated significantly higher in mastery than did women who not employed. A womans well-being is enhanced (增进 ) when she takes on multiple roles. At least by middle ad
