It was c

、ompletely unforeseen that Japan would have to face the current serious crisis: a continuous nuclear leak following the devastating 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami. This crisis has triggered hot nuclear debates among international communities, and even ordinary people. Some of them show their su

、pport for the development of nuclear power. Others are skeptical of atomic energy for its devastating potential. For my part, I agree with the latter point of view. The reasons are presented below. To begin with, the safety of a nuclear plant being hard to guarantee, the use of nuclear power is a gr

、eat risk. Some advocates hold that the rapid development of technology contributes a lot to the robustness and resilience of the nuclear plants, so that there is only a small chance of disasters like the Fukushima incident. However, this also illustrates the fragility and instability of the plants i

、f affected by unexpected natural disasters, which may happen at any time and in any place. Therefore, nuclear power is risky and potentially devastating, with little guarantee of safety. What is more, a nuclear crisis could have dire and long-lasting consequences on human beings and the entire envir

、onment. Once a nuclear leak occurred, huge amounts of radioactive materials are released into the environment, which may do enormously harm to the health of our human beings by causing chronic bone, lung or blood diseases or even cancer. At the same time, retroactive elements would pollute a large a

、rea with a very long-time negative effect. Taking the Fukushima incident as an example, it is estimated that almost 11,500 tons of contaminated water has already been released into the Pacific Ocean. Last but not least, although nuclear energy is efficient, it is not much better than other “green en

、ergy“ like solar, wind and water powers which are also eco-friendly, renewable but less hazardous. As opposed to the clean natural resources mentioned above, the use of nuclear power produces nuclear waste, a danger to the environment, for which the current disposal technology is not yet mature enou

、gh. Therefore, in the long run, the development of natural power rather than nuclear energy would be more beneficial to the harmonious existence of human and environment. To sum up, nuclear power, though efficient, low-cost and renewable, is not a good choice to alleviate the energy crisis caused by

、 the decreasing availability of fossil fuels. Without the guarantee of safety, a potential nuclear crisis would lead to devastating consequences, as is illustrated by the Fukushima incident. With the development of science and technology, instead of nuclear power, such natural energy as solar, wind,

、 water powers should become the better choice for their efficiency, safety, sustainability and eco-friendliness. 【知识模块】 WRITING 2 【正确答案】 Aging of Population in China Many countries will experience aging populations in the next century because of declining birth and mortality rates. And China will so

、on join their ranks. According to a consultative report from CAS members to the central authorities, the percentage of the people aged beyond 65 making up 7.1 percent of the total population, amounting to 90.62 million. That means China has stepped into an aging era. In face of this unavoidable prob

、lem, we need to keep a level head to have an all-sided view over its influences, and to take some necessary countermeasures to deal with it. The aging population will have wide-ranging and deep-going influences on the countrys socio-economic development and the peoples livelihood. It is asserted tha

、t, as a country with an economy that is not highly developed, China is in a dilemma when facing the problems of both an aging population and population control. Firstly, with families becoming smaller, it is even graver for families to care for aged members adequately. Ever since the adoption of fam

、ily planning policy, each family has only one child, which leads to the turning up of a new style of extended family a young couple with four aged parents. Because of the limited energy and financial support, few young couples are able to offer adequate care to the elders, who, consequently, have to

、 mainly depend on their pensions and social welfare institutions. Besides, aging causes a relative decline in working force in that more people have to be allocated to care for the increasing aged people. Its not hard to draw the picture clear that, with a declining young working force and a bulgy r

、etired group, the social working force structure is turning into a triangle down. Consequently, the productivity of the whole society is affected to some extent. The rapidity of the populations aging has made it more urgent for the adoption of countermeasures. No doubt the key is to build a solid ec

、onomic foundation; however, what has been neglected is the importance that shall be attached to overall social progress by changing the attitude towards the elders and the backward situation in social security and welfare service. On one hand, with regard to the two problems mentioned in the previou

、s paragraph, the government should solve the problems concerning old people s social security and medical services especially in rural areas, and establish a pension system for those in small cities and townships, so as to help the young generation take better care of the old. And a public ethic sup

、portive of old people should be encouraged, so the family care and community services will be improved accordingly. On the other hand, a correct attitude towards the aging phenomenon must be introduced. While having comprehensively recognized the potential influences caused by an aging population, w

、e should not over-emphasize its negative impact: this puts unfair mental pressure on old people. Instead, our society must give full play to old peoples ability to play useful roles and encourage them to adapt to social reality. In this way, many old people will retake their previous jobs, if health

、 permitting, or find other ways to contribute to our society. Then the pressure of working force might be relieved to a certain extent. With all the above influences analyzed and the relative measures suggested, we should develop an all-round view over the aging problem in China. It is an urgent iss

、on showed that, in half of the families polled, grandparents bore the main responsibility for raising grandchildren. Some think that grandparents should get compensation for caring for their grandchildren. While others have objection to this idea, holding that caring for grandchildren is an act of l

、ove that cannot be measured and spending time with grandchildren brings joy to them. As far as I am concerned, it is reasonable to charge for babysitting grandchildren. The first and foremost approval of charging for babysitting grandchildren is that old people have no responsibility to care for the

、ir grandchildren. Grandparents deserve a relaxing life after having raised their kids, so why should they continue working to raise grandchildren? It is the responsibility of parents to raise their kids, not the grandparents. Caring for young children is not always fun or loving, with much responsib

、ility involved. Grandparents should enjoy their own time instead of looking after babies. It takes them time and energy. So if they are needed to take care of their grandchildren, they should get it compensated. Even nominal payment would be appreciated with the grandparents feeling like their paren

、ting experience and skills are valued and not taken for granted. The second approval of the proposal is that it is stupid to hire a baby sitter rather than giving the money to your own parents! Whom do you trust more, your own parents or a baby-sitter? Your own parents will surely care more for your

、 child because they are their own flesh and blood. Most grandparents are more than willing to help, however, devoting all their time is not practical. Some responsibilities must be taken by the children themselves, or they may pay their parents some additional support money. Seniors may love your gr

、andchildren dearly, but payment should also be given besides a home, food, and clothing. They need money apart from their social welfare. With everything said above, I have made my firm stand thoroughly approving of charging for babysitting grandchildren. Old people may spend their energy and time t

、raveling or living a peaceful life instead of staying at home and caring for their grandchildren, which, as we all know, cost much energy. So it is absolutely reasonable that grandparents get paid for caring grandchildren. 【知识模块】 WRITING 4 【正确答案】 Where Should Children be Educated? Although there is

、much argument on whether children should have conventional schooling or should be educated at home, which is aroused by a 12-year-old college student reported in a newspaper, and there rises a trendiness of job-quitting mothers determined to devote to their childrens bringing-up, nobody can draw a c

、onclusion with confidence that children should be taught at home or at any childrens institutions. There are many different children and every one may require education suitable only for him. And I would take the ground that for most children the best place for learning about life is in the children

、s institutions or schools. In the first place, there is no denying that contacts between children of the same age are essential for the growth of children. Such a contact is indispensable for playing, entertaining, learning and living together with other people. How to get along well with other peop

、le is the first lesson for any one to take in his up-bringing, and the lack of this ability sets problems and troubles for his later development. By playing and communicating with their peers, its much easier for children to develop and cultivate their characters and interpersonal skills. However, t

、he children who always stay at home may become more solitary and even suffer from certain mental illnesses because of the separation from companions of the same age. Besides, educational institutions can offer a better chance for a child to acquire knowledge with a more systematic teaching of subjec

、ts such as math, Chinese, English, physics, chemistry, biology and so on. Being educated in this environment, children can develop into all-round students. Meanwhile, schools also provide their students a platform where children can get in touch with the greatest minds of human beings, such as Arist

、otle, Chaucer, Einstein, and so like. But for the parents, no matter how excellent they are in their professional fields, they are not masters of all kinds of knowledge that is necessary for their children to learn. At last, good study habit can be better formed at schools. Children who study at home are easily affected by the lure of the TV programs or computer games, while children in school will, with teachers guidance, gradually cultivate a scientific and efficient study habit, which could benefit them for a life-long time.
