Scope1.1 This specification covers the composition and physicalproperties of spray-applied cellulosic fiber stabilized thermalinsulation applied

    3、to open or closed ceiling spaces, regardlessof slope, where temperatures range from -49 to 194F (-45 to90C).1.2 Stabilized cellulosic fiber thermal insulation is producedby the addition of adhesive(s) to loose-fill cellulosic fiberinsulation. The adhesive(s) may be added to the insulation attime of

    4、manufacture and, if necessary, activated by the additionof water when installed or the adhesive may be added to theinsulation at the time of installation.1.3 This is a material specification that is not intended todeal with methods of application that are supplied by themanufacturer.1.4 The values s

Terminology3.1 DefinitionsFor definitions of terms used in thisspecification, see Terminology C168.3.2 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard:3.2.1 shrinkagedecrease in thickness that occurs from thetime of installation until the insulation achieves a stablem

    10、oisture content.3.2.2 stabilized cellulosea cellulosic insulation producttreated to resist, after drying, further settling of no more than5%.4. Materials and Manufacture4.1 The basic material shall be recycled cellulosic fibermade from selected paper or paperboard stock. Additives areintroduced to p

    11、rovide properties such as flame resistance,processing and handling characteristics. An adhesive is addedto the insulation product to resist long-term settling of theinsulation after installation and curing.4.2 The materials are processed into a form suitable forinstallation by a pneumatic method.4.3

    12、 The adhesive may be added to the product at the time ofmanufacture or at the time of installation by means of a liquidspray.5. Physical and Chemical Properties5.1 DensityThe density of conditioned stabilized insula-tion in lb/ft3(kg/m3) shall be determined in accordance withSection 7.5.2 Corrosiven

    13、essThe loose-fill insulation material shallbe tested for corrosiveness in accordance with Section 8.     16、03 in. (0.076 mm) metalspecimens shall be evident when the specimens are observedover a 40-W appliance light bulb. Notches extending into thecoupon 0.1 in. (3 mm) or less from any edge shall be ignored.5.3 Critical Radiant FluxWhen tested in accordance withSection 9, the critical radiant flux shall

    17、be equal to or greaterthan 0.11 Btu/ft2s (0.12W/cm2).All values shall be reported totwo significant digits.5.4 Fungi ResistanceThe loose-fill insulation materialshall be tested and pass fungi resistance as specified in Section10. All three test specimens shall exhibit growth less than orequal to the

    18、 comparative material in order to pass.5.5 Water Vapor SorptionMoisture gain in the insulationshall be no more than 15 % by weight when tested inaccordance with Section 11.5.6 Odor EmissionAny sample producing a detectableodor that is classified as objectionable and strong or strong bymore than two

    19、panel members shall be considered to havefailed the test when tested in accordance with Section 12.5.7 Smoldering CombustionWhen tested in accordancewith the smoldering combustion test method in Section 13, theinsulation shall show no evidence of flaming and a weight lossof no greater than 15 % of t

    20、he specimen weight.5.8 Thermal ResistanceThe standard thermal resistancevalues recommended for application shall be expressed inFhft2/Btu (Km2/W). The R-value shall be measured inaccordance with Section 14. During random sampling, anaverage measured R for four specimens that is 95 % of thelabeled va

    21、lue shall be acceptable provided no measurement isless than 90 % of the labeled value.35.9 Flame Resistance PermanencyThe importance of aninsulation product to maintain its fire retardant characteristicsis recognized. A task group is currently studying methods toascertain if there is long-term deter

    22、ioration of fire performancecharacteristics of cellulose insulation. Should the need for apermanency test method be determined by this task group anda test method developed and finalized, it will become a part ofthis specification.5.10 ShrinkageThe shrinkage (S1) determined in accor-dance with Secti

    23、on 7.5.11 SettlingThe settling (S2) determined in accordancewith Section 7 shall be no greater than 5 %.6. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance6.1 The product shall be free of extraneous foreign materialssuch as metals and glass that will adversely affect the perfor-mance in service.7. Shrinkage, Set

    24、tling, and Density7.1 Density:7.1.1 ScopeThis test method provides a basis for calcu-lating the product coverage values and for conducting physicalproperty tests requiring the use of density for specimenpreparation. The shrinkage and settling results provide infor-mation for installation.7.1.2 Signi

    25、ficance and UseThe density is the weight perunit volume expected after long-term attic use. All testing ofthis product shall be done using specimens having the densitydetermined by the drop box method described in this section.7.1.3 Apparatus:7.1.3.1 Insulation Specimen ContainerThe drop box ap-para

    26、tus shall consist of an open-top box with sides and bottommade from34-inch (19 mm) thick plywood. The interior of thebox should be treated with a water sealer. The interiordimensions of the box shall be 22365-inch (deep)(559914127 mm) for insulation withR32ft2hF/Btu (5.64 Km2/W). A 1.0-inch (25 mm)

    27、steel “eye” shall beattached to each corner to facilitate lifting the box with a cableor rope harness and pulley system.All box dimensions shall bewithin 63 % of the values specified above.7.1.3.2 SpacerA 6.0-inch (150 mm) thick spacer shall befabricated for positioning the box above a concrete floo

    28、r. Thespacer should be fitted with a handle or heavy cord to assistmoving it from below the suspended box. A quick releasedevice can be used to drop the suspended box.7.1.3.3 BalanceA balance having sufficient capacity toweigh a specimen container with freshly installed insulation towithin 0.01 lb (

    29、5g).7.1.3.4 Probe and RulerA 0.125 6 0.008 inch (3.2 6 0.2mm) diameter metal rod that is pointed on one end shall beused as a pin gauge. A steel rule with 0.05 inch (1.0 mm) orfiner readability shall be used to determine insulation thick-nesses. The device pictured in Figure 1 of Test Method C167may

    30、 be used.7.2 Procedure:7.2.1 A partially enclosed area is required for specimenpreparation. The enclosure must protect the blowing operationfrom wind or strong air currents. The geometry of the roomshould not influence the stream of insulation from the hose. Itis recommended that the area of the enc

    31、losure be at least 2.5times the area of the test specimen container.7.2.2 The weight of the empty box, M1, shall be determinedto within 0.06 lb (25 g).7.2.3 The product to be tested shall be installed in the boxusing equipment and installation instructions recommended bythe manufacturer. Excess insu

    32、lation shall be screed from thetop of the test specimen to provide a level surface thatcoincides with the top edges of the box. The weight of the boxand newly installed insulation, M2, shall be determined towithin 0.06 lb (25g) and recorded.7.2.4 The average depth of the insulation shall be deter-mi

    33、ned to within 0.05-inch (1 mm) using a metal probe. Fiveindividual depth measurements shall be averaged to obtain thedepth that is representative of the newly installed insulation.3The ranges of thermal resistance, R, listed in this section are allowed by FederalTrade Commission 16 CFR Part 460 Trad

    34、e Regulation Rule: Labeling andAdvertising of Home Insulation.C1497 122Individual measurements shall be taken at the center of the boxand in each quadrant of the box.7.2.5 The insulation shall be allowed to dry in a conditionedspace maintained at 75 6 5F and 50 6 5 % RH until a changein net weight o

    35、f the specimen is less than 0.06 lbs (25 g) in twoconsecutive weighings with 24 h between weighings. Theweight of the box with the conditioned (dry) insulation, M3,shall be recorded. Since moving of boxes containing insulationmay disturb the insulation, an additional 10-in. deep box ofinsulation ins

    36、talled in the same manner as the test specimensmay be prepared and used to track the drying of the testspecimens.7.2.6 The thickness of the conditioned insulation shall bemeasured by the same method used to measure the initialthickness.7.2.7 The box containing the conditioned insulation shall bedrop

    37、ped five times onto a solid concrete floor from a height of6 -0/+1/2 inches (150 -0/+13 mm). The average thickness ofthe insulation shall be measured after five drops using themethod used to measure the initial thickness.7.2.8 The insulation shall be removed from the box andweighed to within 0.01 lb

    42、s test method is based on aninterlaboratory study (ILS) of ASTM C1497, Standard Speci-fication for Cellulosic Fiber Stabilized Thermal Insulation,conducted in 2009. Two laboratories measured the density,settling, and shrinkage of two different materials, in three sizevariations. Every “test result”

    43、represents an individual deter-mination. Each laboratory was asked to submit three replicatetest results, from a single operator, for each analysis andmaterial type. Except for the limited number of reportinglaboratories and materials tested, Practice E691 was followedfor the design and analysis of

    44、the data; the details are given inASTM Research Report No. C16-1039.47.5.1.1 Repeatability limit (r)Two test results obtainedwithin one laboratory shall be judged not equivalent if theydiffer by more than the “r” value for that material; “r” is theinterval representing the critical difference betwee

    45、n two testresults for the same material, obtained by the same operatorusing the same equipment on the same day in the samelaboratory.(1) Repeatability limits are listed in Tables 1-3 below.7.5.1.2 Reproducibility limit (R)Two test results shall bejudged not equivalent if they differ by more than the

    46、 “R” valuefor that material; “R” is the interval representing the criticaldifference between two test results for the same material,obtained by different operators using different equipment indifferent laboratories.(1) Reproducibility limits cannot accurately be determinedwith data from fewer than s
