Scope1.1 This specification covers the general physical propertyrequirements of radiant barrier materials for use in

    3、buildingconstruction. The scope is specifically limited to requirementsfor radiant barrier sheet materials that consist of at least onesurface having a far-infrared emittance of 0.1 or less, such asmetallic foils or metallic deposits mounted or unmounted onsubstrates.1.2 The values stated in either

    4、SI units or inch-pound unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated ineach system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, eachsystem shall be used independently of the other. Combiningvalues from the two systems may result in non-conformancewith the standard.1.3 The following s

    5、afety hazards caveat pertains only to thetest methods (Section 10) described in this specification. Thisstandard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns,if any, associated with its use. Materials and Manufacture5.1 Sheet radiant barrier materials shall consist of lowemittance surface(s) that are in combination with any sub-strates and adhesives required to meet the specifie

    12、d physicalmaterial properties.6. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance6.1 Sheet radiant barriers shall be manufactured, packagedand shipped in such a manner that, when received by thecustomer, they are suitable for installation in accordance withPractice C1158.1This specification is under the jurisdic

Physical Requirements7.1 The lowemittance materials shall conform to the physi-cal properties as spec

    16、ified in Table 1 and local building codes.7.2 The following physical characteristics of sheet radiantbarriers are important:7.2.1 Surface EmittanceRadiant barriers derive their ef-fectiveness from their low-emittance surface. The surfaceemittance of sheet radiant barriers shall be determined inaccor

    17、dance with Test Method C1371.7.2.2 Water Vapor TransmissionSheet radiant barriersmay or may not be vapor retarders. If the radiant barrier is toserve as a vapor retarder, the permeance of the material shallnot exceed one perm, as determined in accordance with TestMethods E96/E96M (Procedure ADesicca

    18、nt Method).7.2.2.1 If the radiant barrier is to be vapor transmitting thenthe permeance of the material shall exceed five perms asdetermined with Test Methods E96/E96M (ProcedureADesiccant Method).7.2.3 Surface Burning CharacteristicsThe flame spreadpotential of a sheet radiant barrier product shall

    19、 be determinedfor a single test specimen in accordance with Test Method E84.7.2.4 Corrosivity Sheet radiant barriers shall be tested forcorrosion resistance in accordance with Test Method D3310.Evidence of significant corrosion shall be cause for rejection.Acorrosion test that results in less than 2

    20、 % affected surface issatisfactory.7.2.5 Tear Resistance Sheet radiant barriers shall betested for tear resistance using Test Method D2261. The tearresistance shall be included in the manufacturers technicaldata.7.2.6 Adhesive Performance:7.2.6.1 BleedingAdhesives, when used in bonding, shallshow no

    21、 sign of bleeding when tested in accordance with thetest procedure in 10.1. Bleeding at cut edges may be disre-garded. The total of bleeding or delamination, covering morethan 2 % of the sample area, shall be cause for rejection.7.2.6.2 PliabilitySpecimens tested in accordance with thetest procedure

    22、 in 10.2 shall not show cracking or delamination.This test does not apply to materials that are not flexible andnot intended to be bent or flexed.7.2.7 Mold and Mildew Fungal resistance of sheet radiantbarriers shall be tested in accordance with Test Method C1338.The samples are then examined visual

    23、ly under 53 magnifica-tion for the extent of mold growth and for indications ofdeterioration. Evidence of mold growth beyond the inoculationarea shall be cause for rejection.8. Significance and Use8.1 This specification recognizes that the effectiveness of asheet radiant barrier is dependent on prop

    24、er installation.Practice C1158 addresses use and installation of radiant barri-ers.8.2 This specification identifies the material properties thatare important for sheet radiant barrier products. When appro-priate, values for the properties have been stated.8.3 The user should consult the manufacture

    25、r about specificmaterial properties needed for a particular application.8.4 Radiant barriers shall be free of dust or other contami-nants to remain effective.9. Sampling9.1 Sampling shall be performed in accordance with Prac-tice C390.10. Test Methods for Adhesive Performance10.1 Bleeding and Delami

    26、nation:10.1.1 ScopeThis test method covers the determination ofbleeding and delamination of sheet radiant barriers.10.1.2 Significance and UseIt is necessary that sheetradiant barriers not show adhesive bleeding or delaminationsince these conditions could result in a loss of structuralintegrity, a c

    27、hange in water vapor permeability, or an increasein surface emittance.10.1.3 SamplingA minimum of three specimens of theradiant barrier material with dimensions of approximately 7.6by 15.2 cm 3 by 6 in. will be tested. The test specimens shallbe cut from separate locations on the roll or panel of th

    28、e radiantbarrier material.10.1.4 ProcedureSuspend specimens vertically in an ovenand heat to a temperature of 82 6 3C 180 6 5F for 5 h.10.1.4.1 Determine under 53 magnification if the adhesivehas bled or extruded through the surface or if separation of foilfrom the substrate (delamination) has occur

Estimate thepercentage of the area that has delaminated.10.1.5 Precision and BiasPrecision and bias have notbeen determined for this qualitative test.10.2 Pliability:10.2.1 ScopeThis test method covers the determination ofcracking or delamination of the radiant barrier due to folding orbending.

    30、 Any radiant barrier product that is not subject tobending during installation shall be exempt from the require-ments in 10.2.10.2.2 Significance and UseIt is necessary that sheetradiant barriers not crack or delaminate as a result of normalinstallation practice since this could result in loss of st

    31、ructuralintegrity, change in water vapor transmission, or increase insurface emittance.10.2.3 SamplingA minimum of three specimens of theradiant barrier materials shall be subjected to two tests. Onespecimen shall include a factory-produced edge.10.2.4 ProcedureThe specimens shall be conditioned at

    32、atemperature of 21 6 1C 706 2F and 50 % (65 %) relativehumidity for the first test and 0 6 1C 32 6 2F and 50 %(65 %) relative humidity for the second test for a period of noless than 24 h immediately prior to testing.TABLE 1 Physical Properties of Low Emittance MaterialsFoils or DepositsPurityat lea

    34、that have been con-ditioned shall be folded in accordance with TAPPI Test MethodT 512 and the folded edge smoothed using light finger pres-sure. The radiant barrier materials shall not crack or delaminatewhen folded to 180 degrees of bend.10.2.5 Precision and BiasPrecision and bias have notbeen dete

    35、rmined for this qualitative test.11. Inspection11.1 Inspection of the material shall be agreed upon be-tween the purchaser and supplier. Practice C390 may be usedas part of the purchase contract.12. Rejection and Rehearing12.1 Requirements Determined by Visual InspectionTheproduct shall be inspected

    36、 visually for mechanical damage asfollows:12.1.1 Punctures and tears not to exceed one puncture per500 ft2unless the puncture is intended to be characteristic ofthe finished product.12.1.2 Damage (for example, bleeding adhesive, corrosion)to surface coatings shall not exceed 2 % of the surface area.

    37、12.2 If inspection of a specimen shows failure to conform tothe requirements of this specification, a second specimen fromthe same lot shall be tested and the results of this retestaveraged with the results of the first test.12.3 If the average described in 12.2 fails to conform to therequirements o

    38、f this specification then the material fails.Rejection shall be reported to the manufacturer or supplierpromptly and in writing. In case of dissatisfaction with theresults of the tests, the manufacturer or supplier has a right tomake a claim for rehearing.12.4 In case of rejection, the manufacturer

    39、or supplier shallhave the right to reinspect the rejected shipment or resubmit thelot after removal of that portion of the shipment not conform-ing to the specified requirements.13. Packaging and Package Marking13.1 All sheet radiant barrier products shall be packaged ina manner which will protect t

    40、he material from physical damageduring storage and transportation.13.2 Package Marking:13.2.1 All packages shall be either imprinted with themanufacturers name or trademark to identify product origin orcontain a fact sheet containing this information.13.2.2 All packages shall be marked with a lot nu

    41、mber.13.2.3 All packages shall be marked with the width andlength of the material and the total expected coverage areawhen installed in accordance with the manufacturers recom-mendations.13.3 Radiant Barrier Markings:13.3.1 The radiant barrier material shall be imprinted withthe manufacturers or dis

    42、tributors name or trademark.13.3.2 The radiant barrier material shall be imprinted withthe measured flame spread rate, as determined in accordancewith Test Method E84, at a minimum of every 2.4 m 8 ft ofits length or once on each panel for lengths less than 2.4 m 8ft.13.3.3 The radiant barrier mater

    43、ial shall be imprinted withthe measured surface emittance of the operative surface, asdetermined using Test Method C1371, at a minimum of every2.4 m 8 ft of its length or once on each panel for lengths lessthan 2.4 m 8 ft.13.3.4 Radiant barrier material manufactured to allow watervapor transmission

    44、shall be imprinted with the measured watervapor transmission rate (in perms), as determined in accor-dance with Test Methods E96/E96M (Procedure ADesiccantMethod), at a minimum of every 2.4 m 8 ft of its length oronce on each panel for lengths less than 2.4 m 8 ft.13.3.5 Markings that affect emittan

    45、ce shall not exceed 0.5 %of the operative low-emittance surface area of the radiantbarrier material.14.
