Terminology3.1 Lot Definitions:3.2 ingot, na quantity of metal cast into a shape suitablefor subsequent processing to various mill products.4. Ordering I

Materials and Manufacture5.1 Materials covered by this specification are produced byone of the following methods:5

    21、.1.1 double vacuum arc melting,5.1.2 triple vacuum arc melting,5.1.3 electron beam cold hearth melting followed byvacuum arc melting,5.1.4 plasma arc cold hearth melting followed by vacuumarc melting,5.1.5 electron beam cold hearth melting,5.1.6 plasma arc cold hearth melting or5.1.7 other melting p

    22、rocess as agreed upon by the purchaserand producer.5.2 The melting method used to produce the ingot shall bereported to the purchaser on the certification.5.3 The melting method shall be at the discretion of theproducer, unless specified in the purchase order.6. Chemical Composition6.1 The chemistry

    23、 of titanium and titanium alloy ingotcovered by this specification shall conform to the requirementsfor the specified grade as prescribed in Table 1.6.1.1 The elements listed for each grade in Table 1 areintentional alloy additions or elements that are inherent to themanufacture of titanium sponge o

    24、r ingot.6.1.2 Elements intentionally added to the melt, includingadditions made via revert additions, must be identified, ana-lyzed and reported in the chemical analysis. Elements not listedin Table 1 for the specified grade shall not be required.6.1.3 When agreed upon by the producer and purchaser

    25、andrequested by the purchaser in the written purchase order,chemical analysis shall be completed for specific elements notlisted in this specification.6.2 The chemical analysis shall normally be conductedusing theASTM standard test methods referenced in 2.1. Otherindustry standard methods may be use

    26、d where the ASTM testmethods in 2.1 do not adequately cover the elements in thematerial or by other methods acceptable to the purchaser.Alternate techniques are discussed in Guide E2626.6.3 Product Check AnalysisProduct check analysis is ananalysis made by or for the purchaser for the purpose ofveri

    27、fying the composition of the ingot. The check analysistolerances reflect the variation between laboratories in themeasurement of chemical composition.     39、d unless the concentration level is greater than 0.1 % each, or 0.4 % total. Other elements may not be added intentionally. Other elements may be present in titanium or titaniumalloys in small quantities and are inherent to the manufacturing process but not added intentionally. In titanium, these el

    40、ements typically include aluminum, vanadium, tin, chromium, molybdenum, niobium, zirconium,hafnium, bismuth, ruthenium, palladium, yttrium, copper, silicon, cobalt, tantalum, nickel, boron, manganese, and tungsten.DThe purchaser may, in the written purchase order, request analysis for specific eleme

    41、nts not listed in this specification.ELower hydrogen may be obtained by negotiation with the manufacturer.B9771137. Condition7.1 Surface FinishThe surface finish shall be at thediscretion of the producer, unless specified in the purchaseorder.7.2 When specified, the ingots shall be conditioned on th

    42、esurface to standards agreed upon between the manufacturer andthe purchaser.7.3 Titanium and titanium alloy ingots shall be free ofimperfections that would be deemed injurious by the standardsof acceptability agreed upon between the purchaser and themanufacturer.7.3.1 The manufacturer shall be permi

    43、tted to remove minorsurface imperfections. Surface imperfections may be removedup to 1 in. (25 mm) deep from the ingot surface.Areas adjacentto the imperfection shall be blended smoothly into the ingotsurface at a slope not less than 3:1.8. Retest8.1 If any sample or specimen exhibits obvious contam

    44、ina-tion, improper preparation, or flaws disqualifying it as arepresentative sample, it shall be discarded and a new sampleor specimen substituted.8.2 If the results of any test are not in conformance with therequirements of this specification, the original sample from theingot may be retested or th

    45、e ingot may be re-sampled andtested.8.2.1 If the original ingot sample is retested, the frequencyof the retest will be at least double the initial number of tests.The retests will be compared to the original value to determineif the original value is an outlier in accordance with PracticeE178. If it

    46、 is an outlier the retest values will be averaged andthe averaged retest values reported. If it is not an outlier all thevalues will be averaged and the averages of all of the testsbecome the test value reported. If the averaged value reportedconforms to the specification, then they become the test

    47、valuesfor certification.8.2.2 The manufacturer may resample the ingot at thenon-conforming location(s) in a different area at the same axiallocation. The frequency of the resample will be at least doublethe initial number of tests. If the results of the resampleconform to the specification, then the

    48、 resample values becomethe test values for certification.8.3 The manufacturer may scalp or crop the ingot to removenonconforming material then sample the remaining ingotposition(s). The ingot shall be acceptable if all results of thetests on the ingot conform to this specification.9. Sampling9.1 Sam

    49、ples for chemical analyses shall be representative ofthe material being tested. The utmost care must be used insampling titanium for chemical analysis because of its greataffinity for elements such as oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen.Therefore in cutting samples for analysis, the operation shouldbe carried out insofar as possible in a dust-free atmosphere.Chips should be collected from clean metal and tools should beclean and sharp. Samples for analysis should be stored insuitable containers.9.2 The ingot shall be sampled at a minimum of twolocati
