、Designation: B869 07 (Reapproved 2018)Standard Specification forCopper-Clad Steel Electrical Conductor for CATV Drop Wire1This standard is issued under the fixed designation B869; the number immediately following the designation indicates the year oforiginal adoption or, in the case of revision, the

、 year of last revision. A number in parentheses indicates the year of last reapproval. Asuperscript epsilon () indicates an editorial change since the last revision or reapproval.1. Scope1.1 This specification covers 21 % conductivity hard-drawnround copper-clad steel wire for coaxial cable center c

、onduc-tors (Note 1).NOTE 1Wire ordered to this specification is not intended for redraw-ing since it is furnished in the hard-drawn temper. If wire is desired for thepurpose, the manufacturer should be consulted.1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas standard. The values give

Material4.1 The wire shall be composed of a steel core with asubstantially uniform and continuous copper cladding thor-oughly bonded to it throughout.4.2 The finished copper-clad steel wire shall conform to therequirements in this specification.5. Dimensions and Permissible Var

、iations5.1 The size shall be expressed as the diameter of the wirein decimal fractions of an inch, using four places of decimals, that is, in tenths of a mil (Note 2).NOTE 2The values of wire diameters in Table 1 and Table 2 are givento the nearest 0.0001 in. (0.0025 mm) and correspond to the standar

、d sizesgiven in Specification B258. In specifying diameters of wire or inspectingwire, the diameter should also be expressed to the fourth decimal place. An excellent discussion of wire gages and related subjects is contained inNBS Handbook 100.5.2 Within the range of diameters included in Table 1, t

、) Committee.17.2 Tension tests shall be made on representative samples.Unless otherwise agreed upon between the manufacturer andthe purchaser, the elongation shall be determined by measure-ments made between the jaws of the testing machine. The zerolength shall be the distance between the jaws when

、a load equalto 10 % of the specified tensile strength has been applied, andthe final length shall be the distance between the jaws at thetime of rupture. The zero length shall be as near 10 in. (254mm) as practicable. The fracture shall be between the jaws ofthe testing machine and not closer than 1

、 in. (25.4 mm) toeither jaw. The elongation as thus determined shall not be lessthan 1.0 %. See Table 2 for related breaking strengths.7.3 When agreed upon between the manufacturer and thepurchaser, the elongation may be measured by means of anextensometer suitable for measuring elongation in 10 in.

、 (250mm) and having a vernier reading to 0.01 in. (0.25 mm)attached to the test specimen at a tension load of approximately10 % of rated strength. The elongation as thus determined shallnot be less than 1.0 %. If the fracture occurs before the 1.0 %elongation requirement and outside the two attachme

Torsion Test8.1

、The wire shall withstand, without fracture, not less than20 torsions in a length equivalent to 100 times the nominaldiameter of the specimen. In the twist test, the rate of applyingthe twists shall be approximately 15/min.8.2 Specimens shall be twisted to destruction and shall notreveal under testin

、g any seams, pits, slivers, or surface imper-fections of sufficient magnitude to indicate inherent defects orimperfections in the wire.8.2.1 Examination of the wire at the break shall show noseparation of copper from the steel.9. Resistance9.1 The electrical resistance of the wire (Note 4) shall bed

、etermined by resistance measurements, and maximum resis-tance shall be based on the minimum diameter of the wire andresistivity value at 20C cmil/ft of 49.39. This is tocorrespond to a minimum conductivity of 21 % IACS.NOTE 4Electrical resistance is calculated by the following equation:maximum resis

、tance /ft! 5resistivity, 3circular mil/ftminimum diameter, mil!29.2 The maximum resistance values are given in Table 1.9.3 When resistance measurements are made at tempera-tures other than 20C, corrections shall be based on a tempera-ture coefficient of resistance of 0.0038/C.9.4 Tests to determine

、conformance to the electrical resis-tance requirements of Table 1 shall be made in accordance withTest Method B193.10. Uniformity of Copper Cladding10.1 At no point around the circumference of the wireshould the copper thickness be less than that shown in Table 1.The minimum copper thickness express

、ed as a percent of thewire size shall be 1.5 % of the wire diameter or 0.015 times thediameter. The minimum copper thickness may be determinedby direct measurements of the cross section of the wire or bymeans of a suitable electrical indicating instrument operatingon the permeameter principle. Direc

、t measurement shall betaken from the ends of the coils for referee purposes.11. Joints11.1 There shall be no joints of any kind made in thefinished wire.11.2 Joints may be made in the rods or semifinished wiresprior to drawing to final size in accordance with good com-mercial practice.12. Density12.

、1 For the purpose of calculating mass/unit length, crosssection, and so forth, the density of the wire shall be taken as0.28807 lb/in.3(7.98 g/cm3) at 20C (see Table 2).13.
