Scope1.1 This specification covers concentric-lay-stranded con-ductors made from round aluminum-alloy 6201-T81 h

Ordering Information4.1 Orders for material under this specification shall includethe following information:4.1.1 Quantity of each size and stranding,4.1.2 Conductor size, square millimetres

    23、 (Section 8 andTable 1);4.1.3 Number of wires, aluminum and steel;4.1.4 Type of steel core wire and, if galvanized or Zn-5Al-MM coated, class (A or C) of coating (see 5.2);4.1.5 Direction of lay of outer layer of aluminum wires ifother than right-hand (see 7.2);4.1.6 Special tension test, if require

    24、d (see 9.2);4.1.7 Place of inspection (Section 15);4.1.8 Special package marking, if required (Section 16);4.1.9 Package size (see 17.1); and4.1.10 Heavy wood lagging, if required (see 17.3).5. Requirement for Wires5.1 Before stranding, the aluminum-alloy wire shall meetthe requirements of Specifica

    25、tion B398/B398M.5.2 Before stranding, the steel core wire shall meet therequirements of Specifications B498/B498M, B502, B606,B802/B802M, B803, B957 or B958, whichever is applicable.5.3 Steel core supplied in a stranded construction shall meetthe requirements of Specification B500/B500M, if applicab

    26、le.6. Joints6.1 Cold-pressure welds, electric-butt welds, and electric-butt, cold-upset welds in the finished individual aluminumalloy wires composing the conductor may be made during thestranding process. Following welding, electric-butt welds shallbe annealed for a distance of at least 150 mm on e

    27、ach side ofthe weld. No weld shall occur within 15 m of a weld in thesame wire or in any other wire of the completed conductor(Explanatory Note 3).6.2 There shall be no joints made in the finished steel wires.7. Lay Factors7.1 The length of lay in the various layers of aluminumalloy wire in a conduc

    28、tor shall conform to Table 2 (ExplanatoryNote 4).7.2 The direction of lay of the outside layer of aluminum-alloy wires shall be right-hand unless otherwise specified in thepurchase order. The direction of lay of the aluminum alloy andsteel wires shall be reversed in successive layers.7.3 The length

    29、of lay in the various layers of steel wire in aconductor shall conform to the requirements of SpecificationB500/B500M.7.4 In a conductor having multiple layers of aluminumwires, the lay ratio of any aluminum layer shall not be greaterthan the lay ratio of the aluminum layer immediately beneathit. Si

    30、milarly, in a conductor having multiple layers of steelwires in the core, the lay ratio of a steel layer shall not begreater than the lay ratio of the steel layer immediately beneathit.8. Construction8.1 The number and diameter of aluminum alloy and steelwires and the areas of cross section of alumi

    31、num alloy wiresshall conform to the requirements prescribed in Table 1.9. Rated Strength of Conductor9.1 The rated strength of a conductor shall be taken as thesum of the strengths of the aluminum alloy and steelcomponents, calculated as follows:9.1.1 The strength contribution of the aluminum-alloy

    32、wiresshall be the sum of the strengths of the 6201 wires, calculatedfrom their specified nominal wire diameter and the appropriatespecified minimum average tensile strength given in Specifi-cation B398/B398M, and multiplied by the aluminum-alloyRating Factor percentage for the conductor stranding as

    33、 indi-cated in Table 3.B711 1829.1.2 The strength contribution of the steel core wires shallbe the sum of the strengths of the steel wires, calculated fromtheir specified nominal wire diameter and the appropriatespecified ultimate tensile strength given in SpecificationsB498/B498M, B502, B606, B802/

If tested, the breaking strength of theconductor sha

    43、ll be not less than the rated strength if failureoccurs in the free length at least 25 mm beyond the end ofeither gripping device, or shall be not less than 95 % of therated strength if failure occurs inside, or within 25 mm of theend of, either gripping device (Explanatory Note 5).9.3 Rated strengt

    44、h and breaking strength values shall berounded to three significant figures, in the final value only, inaccordance with the rounding method of Practice E29.10. Density10.1 For the purpose of calculating mass, cross sections,etc., the density of aluminum-alloy 6201 shall be taken as 2690kg/m3at 20C.1

    45、0.2 For the purpose of calculating mass, cross sections,etc., the density of coated steel wire shall be taken as 7780kg/m3at 20C.10.3 For the purpose of calculating mass, cross sections,etc., the density of aluminum-clad steel wire shall be taken as6590 kg/m3at 20C.11. Mass and Electrical Resistance

    46、11.1 The mass and electrical resistance of a unit length ofstranded conductor are a function of the length of lay. Theapproximate mass and electrical resistance may be determinedusing the standard increments shown in Table 4. When greateraccuracy is desired, the increment based on the specific lay o

    47、fthe conductor may be calculated (Explanatory Note 6).11.2 In the calculation of the electrical resistance of acompleted conductor, the resistivity of coated steel core wiresshall be taken as 0.19157-mm2/m at 20C, and the resistivityof aluminum-clad steel core wires shall be taken as 0.0848-mm2/m at

Variation in Area12.1 The area of cross section of the aluminum-alloy wiresof a conductor shall be not less than 98 % of the area specified.Unless otherwise specified by the purchaser, the manufacturermay have the option of determining the cross-sectional area byeither of the following meth

    49、ods, except that in case of questionregarding area compliance, the method of 12.1.2 shall be used:12.1.1 The area of cross section may be determined bycalculations from diameter measurements, expressed to threedecimal places, of the component aluminum wires at any pointwhen measured perpendicularly to their axes.12.1.2 The area of cross section of the aluminum-alloywires of a conductor may be determined by Test Method B263.In applying that method the increment in mass resulting fromstranding may be the applicable value specified in 11.1 or maybe calculated
