Terminology3.1 Definitions of Terms Specific to This Standard: Theterms bar and wire as used in this specification are described asfollows

    7、:3.1.1 bars, nhot-finished rounds, squares, octagons, andhexagons:14 in. (6.35 mm) and over in diameter or size.Hot-finished flats:14 in. to 10 in. (254 mm), inclusive, in width,18 in. (3.18 mm) and over in thickness. Cold-finished rounds,squares, octagons, hexagons, and shapes: over12 in. (12.7 mm)

    8、in diameter or size. Cold-finished flats:38 in. (9.52 mm) andover in width (see 3.1.1),18 in. and over in thickness.(1) Thickness 0.125 in. to under 0.187 in. (3.18 mm to under4.76 mm) can be cold-rolled as well as bar.3.1.2 wire, nCold-finished only: round, square, octagon,hexagon, and shape wire,1

(25.4 mm) round by 10 to 14 ft (3.0 to 4.3 m), centerlessground, ASTM B 672 dated_.5. Materials and Manufacture5.1 Heat TreatmentThe final treatment shall be a solutionanneal.

    12、 Straightening or cold finishing, or both, may beperformed after the final solution annealing operation. Colddrawing to more than a minor sizing reduction (preferredmaximum 5 % in area) after final solution annealing is notrecommended.1This specification is under the jurisdiction of ASTM Committee B

    16、al Composition6.1 Heat analysis, on samples in accordance with 11.2, shallconform to the requirements as to chemical compositionprescribed in Table 1.6.2 If a product analysis is performed by the purchaser, thematerial shall conform to the composition limits within theproduct analysis variation pres

    17、cribed in Specification B 880.7. Mechanical Requirements7.1 The material shall conform to the requirements as to themechanical property prescribed in Table 2.8. Dimensions and Permissible Variations8.1 BarBars shall conform to the variations in dimensionsprescribed in Tables 3-11, inclusive, as appl

    18、icable.9. Workmanship, Finish, and Appearance9.1 The product shall be uniform in quality and condition,smooth, commercially straight or flat, and free of injuriousimperfections.10. Sampling10.1 LotDefinition:10.1.1 A lot for chemical analysis shall consist of one heat.10.1.2 A lot for mechanical pro

    19、perties or corrosion testing(Supplementary Requirement S1) shall consist of all materialfrom a heat and cross-sectional size, heat treated by the samepractice.10.2 Test Material Selection:10.2.1 Chemical AnalysisA representative sample fromeach lot shall be taken during pouring or subsequent process

    20、-ing.10.2.1.1 Product Check Analysis shall be wholly the respon-sibility of the purchaser.10.2.2 Mechanical Properties and Corrosion Test (Supple-mentary Requirement S1)Samples of the material to providetest specimens shall be taken from such locations in each lot asto be representative of that lot.

    23、.1 Material that fails to conform to the requirements ofthis specification may be rejected. Rejection should be reportedto the producer or supplier promptly and in writing. In case ofdissatisfaction with the results of the test, the producer orsupplier may make claim for a rehearing.14. Certificatio

    24、n14.1 When specified in the purchase order or contract, amanufacturers certification shall be furnished to the purchaserstating that material has been manufactured, tested, and in-spected in accordance with this specification, and that the testresults on representative samples meet specification req

    25、uire-ments. When specified in the purchase order or contract, areport of the test results shall be furnished.15. Product Marking15.1 Each bundle, box, or bar shall be properly tagged withmetal tags showing heat number, UNS number, condition,specification number, and size to assure proper identificat

    26、ion.16. Packaging and Package Marking16.1 Bars shall be bundled or boxed in such a manner as toassure safe delivery to their destination when properly trans-ported by any common carrier.17.
