Scope*1.1 This specification covers aluminum-alloy investmentc

    3、astings designated as shown in Table 1.1.2 This specification is not intended for aluminum-alloyinvestment castings used in aerospace applications.1.3 Alloy and temper designations are in accordance withANSI H35.1/H35.1 (M). The equivalent Unified NumberingSystem alloy designations are in accordance

    4、 with PracticeE 527.1.4 Unless the order specifies the “M” specification desig-nation, the material shall be furnished to the inch-pound units.1.5 For acceptance criteria for inclusion of new aluminumand aluminum alloys and their properties in this specification,see Annex A1 and Annex A2.1.6 UnitsTh

    5、e values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. Thevalues stated in each system may not be exact equivalents;therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other.Combining values from the two systems may result in noncon-formance with the

Terminology3.1 Definitions: Refer to Terminology B 881 for definitionsof product terms used in this specification.3.1.1 investment castinga metal object produced by sur-rounding (investin

    29、g) an expendable pattern (usually wax orplastic) with a refractory slurry that sets at room temperature,after which the pattern is removed through the use of heat, andthen filling the resulting cavity with molten metal and allowingit to solidify.4. Ordering Information4.1 Orders for material under t

    30、his specification shall includethe following information (Sections 1.4 and 1.6):4.1.1 This specification designation (which includes thenumber, the year, and the revision letter, if applicable),NOTE 1For inch-pound application, specify Specification B 618 andfor metric application specify Specificat

Std. No. 123 (see 24.3).5. Responsibility for Quality Assurance5.1 Responsibility for Inspe

    36、ction and TestsUnless other-wise specified in the contract or purchase order, the producershall be responsible for the performance of all inspection andtest requirements specified herein. Except as otherwise speci-fied in the contract or order, the producer may use his own orany other suitable facil

    37、ities for the performance of the inspec-tion and test requirements specified herein, unless disapprovedby the purchaser. The purchaser shall have the right to performany of the inspections and tests set forth in this specificationwhere such inspections are deemed necessary to confirm thatmaterial co

    38、nforms to prescribed requirements.6. Materials and Manufacture6.1 The responsibility of furnishing castings that can be laidout and machined to the finished dimensions within thepermissible variations specified, as shown on the blueprints ordrawings, shall rest with the producer, except where patter

    39、nequipment is furnished by the purchaser.6.1.1 Unless otherwise specified, only aluminum alloy con-forming to the requirements of Specification B 179 or produc-ers foundry scrap (identified as being made from alloyconforming to Specification B 179) shall be used in theremelting furnace from which mo

    40、lten metal is taken forpouring directly into castings. Additions of small amounts ofmodifiers and grain refining elements or alloys are permitted.6.1.2 Pure materials, recycled materials, and master alloysmay be used to make alloys conforming to this specification,provided chemical analysis can be t

    41、aken and adjusted toconform to Table 1 prior to pouring any castings.7. Chemical Composition7.1 The product shall conform to the chemical compositionlimits prescribed in Table 1. Conformance shall be determinedby the producer by taking samples at the time castings arepoured in accordance with E 716

    42、and analyzed in accordancewith E 607, E 1251, E34or EN 14242. If the producer hasdetermined the composition of the material during casting, theyshall not be required to sample and analyze the finishedproduct.7.2 If it becomes necessary to analyze castings for conform-ance to chemical composition lim

    43、its, the method used tosample castings for the determination of chemical compositionshall be by agreement between the producer and the purchaser.Analysis shall be performed in accordance with E 716, E 607,E 1251, E34or EN 14242 (ICP method).5Available from Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), 400
