Scope1.1 This specification covers zinc-coated steel

    3、structuralwire rope, prestretched or nonprestretched for use where ahigh-strength, relatively flexible prefabricated zinc-coatedmultiple-wire tension member is desired as a component partof a structure.1.2 The wire rope is furnished with Class A weight zinc-coated wires throughout. It can be furnish

    4、ed with Class Bweight or Class C weight zinc-coated outer wires or Class Bweight or Class C weight zinc-coated wires throughout whereadditional corrosion protection is required.1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regardedas the standard. Ordering Information4.1 Orders for material under this specification shall includethe following information:4.1.1 Length of wire rope,4.1.2 Nominal diameter of wire rope (Tables 1-4),4.1.3 Prestretched (see 8.3) or nonprestretched,

Materials and Manufacture5.1 Base MetalThe base metal shall be carbon steel madeby the open-hearth, basic-ox

    8、ygen, or electric-furnace processand of such quality that the finished wire rope and thehard-drawn individual zinc-coated wires coated by the hot-dipor electrolytic process shall have the properties and character-istics as prescribed in this specification.5.2 ZincThe slab zinc when used shall confor

    9、m to Speci-fication B6or better.6. Physical Properties6.1 Tensile Properties:6.1.1 The zinc-coated wire used in the wire rope shallconform to the mechanical properties in Table 6 prior tofabrication, but the wire test sample may be prestretched to55 % of the minimum tensile strength specified in Tab

    10、le 6 priorto conducting the tests.6.1.2 The tensile strength and the stress at 0.7 % extensionshall be based on the actual cross-sectional area of the finishedwire, including the zinc coating.6.1.3 Test SpecimensThe test specimens shall be free ofbends or kinks other than the curvature resulting fro

    11、m the usualcoiling operation. The hand straightening necessary to permitinsertion of the specimen in the jaws of the testing machineshall be performed by drawing between wood blocks or bysome other equally satisfactory means.6.2 Stress at 0.7 % Extension Under LoadThe value ofstress at 0.7 % extensi

    12、on under load shall be determined by oneof the following procedures, depending on the type of exten-someter used:6.2.1 Non-Autographic ExtensometerWhen a non-autographic extensometer is used to measure the 0.7 % exten-sion, it shall have a gage length of 10 in. 254 mm, and it shallbe so graduated th

    13、at the smallest division corresponds to astrain not larger than 0.0001 in./in. 0.0001 mm/mm of gagelength. Apply a load corresponding to the tensile stressindicated in Table 5, using the nominal diameter of thespecimen. Maintain this load while a 10-in. extensometer isattached and adjusted to the in

Record the load for this extension. The stre

    25、ss correspond-ing to this load shall meet the requirements for the stress of0.7 % extension specified in Table 6, depending on the class ofcoating under consideration. Hold the specimen at 0.7 %extension under load and remove the extensometer used tomeasure the stress at 0.7 % extension; then replac

    26、e it with anelongation extensometer. Continue the application of load untilfracture occurs. Record the elongation attained from theelongation extensometer and add to it 0.7 % obtained from thestress at 0.7 % extensometer to get the total elongation.6.2.2 Autographic ExtensometerWhen an autographic e

    27、x-tensometer is used, it shall have a gage length of at least 2 in.50.8 mm and the magnification of strain shall not be less than250. Apply a load, corresponding to the tensile stress indicatedin Table 5, using the nominal diameter of the specimen.Maintain this load and attach the extensometer. Then

    28、 increasethe load uniformly until the extension recorded by the exten-someter is at least 0.7 %. Determine the load at 0.7 % exten-sion from the load-strain curve. The stress corresponding tothis load shall meet the requirements for stress at 0.7 %extension prescribed in Table 6, depending on the cl

    29、ass ofcoating under consideration. Hold the specimen at 0.7 %extension under load and remove the extensometer used tomeasure the stress at 0.7 % extension; then replace it with anelongation extensometer. Continue the application of load untilfracture occurs. Record the elongation attained from theel

    30、ongation extensometer and add to it 0.7 % obtained from thestress at 0.7 % extensometer to get the total elongation.NOTE 1The extensometer used for the stress at 0.7 % extension andthe elongation extensometer may be the same instrument. Two separateinstruments are advisable in that the more sensitiv

    31、e stress at 0.7 %extensometer which could be damaged when the wire fractures, may beremoved following the determination of the 0.7 % extension. The elon-gation extensometer may be constructed with less sensitive parts or beconstructed in such a way that little damage would result if fracture occursw

    32、hile the extensometer is attached to the specimen.6.3 ElongationIn determining total elongation (elasticplus plastic extension) autographic or extensometer methodsmay be employed. If fracture takes place outside the middlethird of the gage length, the elongation value obtained may notbe representati

    33、ve of the material.6.4 Tensile StrengthThe tensile strength is determinedfrom the maximum load during the total elongation test.6.5 Ductility of SteelThe zinc-coated wire, prior to fabri-cation into wire rope, shall be capable of being wrapped twoturns in a close helix at a rate not exceeding 15 tur

    34、ns/minaround a cylindrical steel mandrel equal to three times thenominal diameter of the wire under test without fracture of thewire.6.6 Weight of Zinc CoatingThe weight of the zinc coatingon the individual wires prior to the fabrication of the wire ropeshall be not less than that specified in Table

    40、able of being wrappedtwo turns in a close helix at a rate not exceeding 15 turns/minaround a cylindrical steel mandrel equal to five times thenominal diameter of the wire under test without cracking orflaking the zinc coating to such an extent that any zinc can beremoved by rubbing with the bare fin

    41、gers. Loosening ordetachment during the adherence test of superficial smallparticles of zinc, formed by mechanical polishing of thesurface of zinc-coated wire, shall not be considered cause forrejection.6.8 FinishThe zinc-coated wire surface shall be free ofimperfections not consistent with good com
