Scope*1.1 This specification covers alloy steel castings, whichhave been subjected to special heat treatment, for valves,flanges, fittings, and other pressure-containing parts (Note 1)intended primarily for high-temperature service.1.2 The high-temperature properties of the mater

    4、ials cov-ered in this specification are dependent upon special heattreatment that is required. Although the high-temperatureproperties are not specified, they are implied by control ofchemistry, heat treatment, and room-temperature properties.1.3 Two grades of ferritic alloy steel are covered (Note

    5、2).Selection will depend on the design and service conditions,mechanical properties, and high-temperature characteristics.NOTE 1Carbon steel castings for pressure-containing parts are cov-ered by Specification A 216/A 216M. Alloy steel castings are covered bySpecification A 217/A 217M.NOTE 2The grad

    6、es covered by this specification represent materialsthat are generally suitable for assembly with other castings or wroughtsteel parts by fusion welding. It is not intended to imply that these gradespossess equal degrees of weldability; therefore, it is the responsibility ofthe purchaser to establis

Sincethese grades possess varying degrees of suitability for resistance tooxidation and for high-temperature service, it is also the responsibility ofthe purchaser to determine which grade shall be furnished, due consider-ation being given to the requireme

    8、nts of the applicable construction codes.1.4 The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI unitsare to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, theSI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in eachsystem are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system mustbe used independen

Failure to comply with the general require-ments of A 703/A 703M constitutes nonconformance with thisspecification. In case of conflict between the requirements ofthis specifi

    13、cation and A 703/A 703M, this specification shallprevail.4. Ordering Information4.1 The inquiry and order should include or indicate thefollowing:4.1.1 A description of the casting by pattern number ordrawing (dimensional tolerances shall be included on thecasting drawing),4.1.2 Grade of steel,4.1.3

Heat Treatment5.1 All castings shall receive a heat treatment proper to theirdesign and chemica

    17、l composition. Heat treatment shall beperformed before machining except in instances when reheattreating is necessary. All castings shall have been allowed tocool, after pouring, to a temperature below the critical rangebefore heat treatment.5.2 At the option of the manufacturer the castings may beg

    18、iven any preliminary heat treatment that will aid in theirprocessing.5.3 All castings shall receive a final heat treatment consist-ing of normalizing and tempering at the temperature prescribedfor each grade in Table 1.5.4 Furnace temperatures for heat treating shall be effec-tively controlled by us

    19、e of pyrometers.6. Chemical Composition6.1 The steel shall conform to the requirements as tochemical composition prescribed in Table 2.7. Tensile Requirements Tensile Requirements7.1 Steel used for the castings shall conform to the require-ments as to tensile properties prescribed in Table 3.8. Qual

    20、ity8.1 The surface of the casting shall be examined visuallyand shall be free of adhering sand, scale, cracks, and hot tears.Other surface discontinuities shall meet the visual acceptancestandards specified in the order. Visual Method SP-55 or othervisual standards may be used to define acceptable s

    21、urfacediscontinuities and finish. Unacceptable visual surface discon-tinuities shall be removed and their removal verified by visualexamination of the resultant cavities. When methods involvinghigh temperature are used in the removal of discontinuities,castings shall be preheated to at least the min

    22、imum tempera-tures in Table 4.8.2 The castings shall not be peened, plugged, or impreg-nated to stop leaks.9. Repair by Welding9.1 Repair shall be made by using a welding procedure andoperators qualified in accordance with PracticeA 488/A 488M.The composition of the deposit weld material shall be si

    23、milarto that of the casting, or of other composition as may be agreedupon between the manufacturer and the purchaser. The castingsafter complement of weld repairing shall be retempered exceptthat local tempering of the weld repairs will be permitted if, inthe manufacturers opinion, complete furnace-

    24、heat treatmentwould be damaging to the finished surfaces of a machinedcasting. Heat treatments after weld repair other than temperingshall be performed only when agreed upon between themanufacturer and the purchaser.9.2 Weld repairs shall be considered major in the case of acasting that had leaked o

    25、n hydrostatic test, or when the depthof cavity prepared for welding exceeds 20 % of the actual wallthickness or 1 in. 25.4 mm, whichever is smaller, or when theextent of the cavity exceeds approximately 10 in.264.5 cm2.When requested by the purchasers inspector, such weld repairsshall be subject to

    26、his approval. He shall also have the right torequire complete reheat treatment of the repaired casting inaccordance with 5.3. When mutually agreed upon between thepurchaser and the manufacturer, major repair weld may beexamined at the manufacturers expense by magnetic particleexamination or radiogra

    27、phing, or both, to check the adequacyof the repair.10.
