    21、ssure-relief devices, including whererefrigerant may be safely discharged in the event of a release.Systems located outdoors are now specifically addressed andinclude an exemption from the 15 ft (4.57 m) height require-ment if meeting specified criteria. The committee reviewedresults of analytical d

    22、ispersion modeling to confirm that loca-tion requirements for release of refrigerant on the exterior ofa building are adequate to reduce risk of unacceptable con-centrations of refrigerant. Requirements for sulfur dioxidewere removed because this refrigerant is generally no longerin use. The existin

    23、g content of Section 9.7.8 and Appendix Dwere reorganized to provide better clarity.Note: In this addendum, changes to the current standardare indicated in the text by underlining (for additions) andstrikethrough (for deletions) unless the instructions specifi-cally mention some other means of indic

    24、ating the changes.9.7.8 For systems in which one or more of the followingconditions apply, pressure-relief devices and fusible plugsshall discharge to the atmosphere at a location not less than15 ft (4.57 m) above the adjoining ground level and not lessthan 20 ft (6.1 m) from any window, ventilation

    25、 opening, orexit in anybuilding.a. Any system containing a Group A3 or B3 refrigerant.b. Any system containing more than 6.6 lb (3 kg) of a GroupA2, B1, or B2 refrigerant.c. Any system containing more than 110 lb (50 kg) of aGroup A1 refrigerant.d. Any system for which a machinery room is required b

    26、ythe provisions of Section 7.4.The discharge shall be terminated in a manner that willprevent both the discharged refrigerant from being sprayeddirectly on personnel in the vicinity and foreign material ordebris from entering the discharge piping. Discharge pipingconnected to the discharge side of a

    27、 fusible plug or rupturemember shall have provisions to prevent plugging the pipe inthe event the fusible plug or rupture member functions.Exceptions: When R-718 (water) is the only refrigerant,discharge to a floor drain is also acceptable if all of thefollowing three conditions are met:1. the press

    28、ure relief device set pressure does notexceed 15 psig,2. the floor drain is sized to handle no less than theflow rate from a single broken tube in any refriger-ant-containing heat exchanger, and3. either:a. theAHJ finds it acceptable that the working fluid,corrosion inhibitor, and other additives us

    29、ed inthis type of refrigeration system may infrequentlybe discharged to the sewer system, orb. a catch tank, sized to handle the expecteddischarge, is installed and equipped with anormally closed drain valve and an overflow lineto drain.9.7.8.1 The application of pressure-relief valves that dis-char

    30、ge from a higher-pressure vessel into a lower-pressurevessel of the system shall comply with (a) through (c) as fol-lows:a. The pressure-relief valve that protects the higher-pressurevessel shall be selected to deliver capacity in accordancewith Section 9.7.5 without exceeding the maximumallowable w

    31、orking pressure of the higher-pressure vesselaccounting for the change in mass flow capacity due to theelevated back pressure.b. The capacity of the pressure-relief valve protecting thepart of the system receiving a discharge from a pressurerelief valve protecting a higher-pressure vessel shall be a

    32、tleast the sum of the capacity required in Section 9.7.5 plusthe mass flow capacity of the pressure-relief valve dis-charging into that part of the system.c. The design pressure of the body of the relief valve used onthe higher-pressure vessel shall be rated for operation atthe design pressure of th

    33、e higher-pressure vessel in bothpressure-containing areas of the valve.9.7.8.2 Ammonia Discharge. Ammonia from pressurerelief valves shall be discharged into one or more of the fol-lowing:a. The atmosphere, per Section 9.7.8.b. A tank containing one gallon of water for each pound ofammonia (8.3 lite

    34、rs of water for each kilogram of ammo-nia) that will be released in one hour from the largestrelief device connected to the discharge pipe. The watershall be prevented from freezing. The discharge pipe fromthe pressure-relief device shall distribute ammonia in thebottom of the tank but no lower than

    35、 33 ft (10 m) belowthe maximum liquid level. The tank shall contain the vol-ume of water and ammonia without overflowing.c. Other treatment systems that meet the requirements of theAHJ.9.7.8.3 Optional Sulfur Dioxide Discharge. When sul-fur dioxide is used, the discharge shall be into a tank ofabsor

    36、ptive solution that shall be used for no other purposeexcept sulfur dioxide absorption. The absorptive solutionshall be one gallon of standard dichromate solution (2.5pounds of sodium dichromate per gallon of water 300 gramsof sodium dichromate per liter of water) for each pound ofsulfur dioxide in

    37、the system (8.3 liters of standard dichromatesolution for each kilogram of sulfur dioxide in the system).Addendum a to Standard 15-2013Modify Section 9.7.8 as shown and add new Section 9.7.9.     38、ther print or digital form is not permitted without ASHRAEs prior written permission.2 ANSI/ASHRAE Addendum a to ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 15-2013Solutions made with caustic soda or soda ash shall not beused in place of sodium dichromate unless the quantity andstrength have the equivalent sulfur-dioxide-

    39、absorbing power.The tank shall be constructed of not less than 1/8 in. (3.2 mm)or No. 11 US gage iron or steel. The tank shall have a hingedcover or, if of the enclosed type, shall have a vent hole at thetop. All pipe connections shall be through the top of the tankonly. The discharge pipe from the

    40、pressure-relief valve shalldischarge the sulfur dioxide in the center of the tank near thebottom.9.7.8.4 The size of the discharge pipe from a pressurerelief device or fusible plug shall not be less than the outletsize of the pressure-relief device or fusible plug. Where out-lets of two or more reli

    41、ef devices or fusible plugs are con-nected to a common line or header, the effect of back pressurethat will be developed when more than one relief device orfusible plug operates shall be considered. The sizing of thecommon discharge header downstream from each of the twoor more relief devices or fus

    42、ible plugs that are expected tooperate simultaneously shall be based on the sum of their out-let areas with due allowance for the pressure drop in all down-stream sections.9.7.8.5 The maximum length of the discharge pipinginstalled on the outlets of pressure-relief devices and fusibleplugs dischargi

    43、ng to the atmosphere shall be determined bythe method in Normative Appendix E. See Table 3 for theflow capacity of various equivalent lengths of discharge pip-ing for conventional relief valves.9.7.8 Discharge from Pressure-Relief Devices. Pressure-relief systems designed for vapor shall comply with

    44、 Section9.7.8. Pressure-relief systems designed for liquid shall com-ply with Section 9.4.3.9.7.8.1 Discharging Location Interior to Building. Pres-sure-relief devices, including fusible plugs, serving refrigera-tion systems shall be permitted to discharge to the interior of abuilding only when all

    45、of the following apply:a. The system contains less than 110 lb (50 kg) of a GroupA1 refrigerant.b. The system contains less than 6.6 lb (3 kg) of a Group A2,B1 or B2 refrigerant.c. The system does not contain any quantity of a Group A3or B3 refrigerant.d. The system is not required to be installed i

    46、n a machineryroom as required by Section 7.4.e. The refrigerant concentration limits in Section 7.2 are notexceeded.Refrigeration systems that do not meet the above require-ments shall meet the requirements of Sections 9.7.8.2,9.7.8.3, and 9.7.8.4.9.7.8.2 Discharging Location Exterior to Building.Pr

    47、essure-relief devices designed to discharge external to therefrigeration system shall be arranged to discharge outside ofabuilding and comply with the all of the following:a. The point of vent discharge shall be located not less than15 ft (4.57 m) above the adjoining ground level.Exception: Outdoor

    48、systems containing Group A1 refriger-ant shall be permitted to discharge at any elevation wherethe point of discharge is located in an access-controlledarea accessible to authorized personnel only.b. The point of vent discharge shall be located not less than20 ft (6.1 m) from windows, building venti

    49、lation open-ings, pedestrian walkways, or building exits.c. For heavier-than-air refrigerants, the point of vent dis-charge shall be located not less than 20 ft (6.1 m) horizon-tally from below-grade walkways, entrances, pits orramps if a release of the entire system charge into such aspace would yield a concentration of refrigerant in excessof the RCL. The direct discharge of a relief vent intoenclosed outdoor spaces, such as a courtyard with wallson all sides, shall not be permitted if a release of the entiresystem charge into such a space would yield a concentra-tion of re
