This military standard delineates the requirements and procedures for the certification ofsling loaded mil

    3、itary equipment for external transportation by Department of Defense (DoD)helicopters, Per the Joint Logistics Commanders Memorandum of Agreement on ExternalHelicopter Transported Loads, dated 23 September 1987, the engineering agency assignedresponsibility for certiing all DoD external loads to the

Helicopter sling loading (HSL) is a mode of transportation by which an item(s) issuspended beneath a rotary wing aircraft for the purpose of transporting the item(s). The primaryapplication of

    5、HSL by helicopter is short range, tactical transport missions. The deployment ofequipment by HSL offers many advantages which include:a. The ability to handle heavy, oversized or bulky cargo.b. The ability to reach areas inaccessible by ground transportation.c. Faster transit times than conventional

    6、 ground transportation.d. Independence from ground transportation conditions (i.e., congestion, battle damage,terrain, size restrictions).e. Unrestricted flight routes allowing use of diversionary tactics to enhance ground unitsecurity.f, Relatively fast rigging and derigging times of most items all

    7、owing for immediate useupon delivery.4. The requirements of this military standard are intended to be consistent with therequirements of MIL-STD-209, Interface Standard for Slinging and Tiedown Provisions forLifling and Tying Down Military Equipment, with regard to HSL. The design and testing oflifl

    8、ing points should attempt to envelope the requirements of both military standards.5. SCOPE* 1.1 Scope. This standard cove

    36、rs design, testing and performance requirements of militaryequipment for Helicopter Sling Loading (HSL) by Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guardrotary wing aircraft. The complete air transportability requirements for an item of equipment notspecified herein shall be specified in the individual e

    37、quipment specification.* 1.2 HSL certification. Although lifiing and tie-down point design criteria for militaryequipment are specified in MIL-STD-209 and MIL-STD-8 14, as well as in documentspertaining to specific types of items (i.e., shelters and other containers), items to be certified forsling

    38、loading by rotary wing aircrafi must meet the requirements of this standard. Since items ofequipment will also be transported via modes other than rotary wing aircraft, lifting and tie-downprovisions for such equipment shall also meet the requirements of any other applicable standardspertaining to l

    39、ifting and/or tiedown.1.3 Atmlicability. This standard applies to the following:* a. All new developmental, non-developmental, and military-adaptedcommercial items with HSL requirements.* b. Modified equipment with HSL requirements, when modificationsresult in changes to the following:(1) Item weigh

    40、t.(2) Center of Gravity (CG) location.(3) Lift provisions.(4) Projected frontal area.1.4 Metric equivalents. Metric equivalents shall conform to FED-STD-376.2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS2.1 General. The documents listed in this section are specified in section 4 of this standard.This section does not incl

Nothing in thisdocument, however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption hasbeen obtai

    46、ned.3. DEFINITIONS3.1 Desire limit load. The applied force (the static load times the load factor) which aslinging provision, including its supporting structure, can withstand without set. The design limitload is to be used in proof-load testing.* 3.2 Helicopter sling loading (HSL). A mode of transp

    47、ortation by which an item(s) issuspended beneath a rotary wing aircraft for the purpose of transporting the item(s).* 3.3 Helicopter sling load weight (HSLWT). The specified weight of the item to betransported. HSLWT is used to calculate the HSLWT to Maximum Protected Frontal Area(MPFA) ratio and th

    48、e corresponding materiel lift point load factor (see 5.2.1). The currentmaximum allowable HSLWT is 36,000 pounds.* 3.4 Flight test. It is typically apadeye, lug, or ring.* 3.6 Materiel lifl point load factor. A multiplier of the static load used to calculate the designlimit load.
