SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This docume

    2、nt covers two types of lined heat protective gloves. 1.2 Classification. The gloves shall be furnished in the following types and sizes, as specified (see 6.2). Type I - Without gauntlet, 11-inch length, one size only Type II - With gauntlet, 14-inch length, medium and large sizes 2. APPLICABLE DOCU

In the event of a conflict between the text of th9s specification and the references cited herei

    15、n, the text of this specification shall take precedence. Nothing in this specification, however, shall supersede applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Guide sample. Guide samples, when furnished are solely for guidance and information (see

    16、 6.3). samples, in which case the document shall govern. Variations from the document may appear in the 3.2 First article. When specified in the contract or purchase order, a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection (see 4.3, 6.2, and 6.4). a 3.3 Material (see 6.5). 3.3.1 Terry cloth kn

    17、itted. The outer layer of fabric for the gloves shall be of a knitted terry loop construction having a terry yarn face and a backing yarn. The yarn shall be no coarser than 6/1 nor finer than 20/2 (cotton count) yarn size. loop face and one yarn shall be used in knitting the back of the fabric. The

    18、color of the fabric shall be the natural color (yellow) of the fiber as produced by the manufacturer. Bleach or a color modifier shall not be used. Additionally, the yarn and fabric requirements shall conform to construction A or B. Testing shall be as specified in 4.4.1. Two ends of the yarn shall

    19、be used in knitting the terry 3.3.1.1 Construction A. The yarns shall be either 100 percent para-aramid fiber or a blend of not more than 20 percent (including manufacturing variability) permanently flame retardant (PFR) rayon fiber with the remaining percentage para-aramid fiber. The fabric shall c

    20、ontain a minimum of 10 wales and 12 courses per inch, a minimum thickness of 0.140 inch, and a minimum weight of 23.5 ounces per square yard. 3.3.1.2 Construction B. The yarns shall be made by wrapping a blend of equal amounts of parg-aramid and meta-aramid fibers around a central core of fiberglass

    21、. The amount of fiberglass in the total yarn blend shall not exceed 30 percent. The fabric shall contain a minimum of 10 wales and 12 courses per inch, a minimum thickness of 0.124 inch, and a minimum weight of 20.0 ounces 3 a per square yard. The gloves shall be fully lined with a napped woven cloth made from unbleached carded cotton yarns. The face of the cloth shall be brushed or napped to give a fleeced effect. The weigh

    23、t of the cloth shall be not less than 8.0 ounces per square yard when tested as specified in 4.4.1. 3.3.3 Thread. 3.3.3.1 Cotton. The thread for stitching the lining shall be unbleached cotton, conforming to type IA1 or IB1, ticket No. 30, 3 ply of V-T-276. 3.3.3.2 Thread, aramid and para-aramid. Th

    24、e thread for all operations other than specified in 3.3.3.1 shall be either aramid thread conforming to size E of MIL-T-43636, or para-aramid spun thread conforming to size T-50 of MIL-T-44100. The color of the aramid or para-aramid thread shall be natural. 3.4 Label, identification. Each glove shal

    25、l have an identification label conforming to type VI, class 5 of DDD-L-20. The item description for use on the label shall be: Gloves, Heat Protective, type I (or type II as applicable). gloves. The letters for type and size shall be 1/8 inch high capitals. The gloves size shall be included on the l

    26、abels for the type II 3.5 Instruction slip. A printed slip of paper containing the following shall be inserted in one glove of each pair: INSTRUCTION SLIP Either glove may be worn on either hand to equalize wear. 3.6 Design. Each pair of gloves shall consist of one right hand and one left hand glove

    27、 of a Gunn cut, reversible design (see figure 1). The face of the palm and the first (index) and fourth (little) finger shall be one piece. The front of the gauntlet shall be one piece. The thumb shall be one piece and so positioned that the glove can be worn on either hand. The back shall be one pi

    28、ece and shall include the backs of the fingers. In lieu of a one . piece back, a separate gauntlet may be used. shall be of knitted terry cloth as specified in 3.3.1.1 or 3.3.1.2. The gloves shall be fully lined. Figure 1 is furnished for information purposes only. If any inconsistencies exist betwe

The dies or patterns for cutting all parts of the gloves shall be furnished by the contractor and shall be of proper proportions to . provide gloves conforming to finished measurem

All stitches, seams, and stitching shall conform to FED-STD-751. Stitch type 301 shall be used

    31、 for all stitching - except that stitch type 401 may be used-as an alternate for stitching the lining. All seams shall be seam types SSa-1 and SSa-2 as applicable, except that seam type SSc-1 shall be used for hemming. Stitching shall be done with not less than 6 nor more than 8 stitches per inch. 3

    32、.7.1 Type 301 stitching. Ends of all stitching shall be backstitched or overstitched 3/8 inch minimum except where ends are turned under in a hem or held down by other stitching. Thread tension shall be maintained so there will be no loose stitching resulting in loose bobbin or top thread, or excess

    33、ively tight stitching resulting in puckering of the material sewn. The lock shall be embedded in the materials sewn. 3.7.1.1 Repairs of type 301 stitching. be as follows: Repairs of type 301 stitching shall a. When thread breaks or bobbin run-outs occur during sewing, the stitching shall be repaired

    34、 by restarting the stitching a minimum of 3/8 inch back of the end of stitching. b. Thread breaks or two or more consecutive skipped or run-off stitches noted during inspection of the item shall be repaired by overstitching. stitching shall start a minimum of 3/8 inch back of the defective area, con

    35、tinue over the defective area, and continue a minimum of 3/8 inch beyond the defective area onto th existing stitching. shall be repaired by removing the defective stitching without damaging the material and restitching in the required manner.     36、ve repairs, the ends of stitching are not required to be backstitched. - 3.7.1.2 Type 401 stitching. Thread tension shall be maintained so that there will be no loose stitching. Where stitch type 401 is used, the looper thread shall be 6n the inside of the gloves. Both ends of all seams or stitching

The glove parts shall be cut with their length direction (cuff to fingertip direction) in the wales direction of the terry cloth and in the warp direction of cotton lining. 3.8.2 Thumbs, fingers, gauntlets, and c

    39、losing of the terry cloth parts. Thumbs, fla single or double row of,stitches. When a single row of stitches is used, the stitches shall be l/4 to 1/2 inch from the edge. When two rows of stitches are used, the first row shall be l/4 to 3/8 inch from the edge and the second row shall be 1/16 to 1/8

    40、inch from the first row. When a separately pieced gauntlet is used, the cut edges for attaching the hand to the gauntlet shall be inseam sewn with either a single or double row of stitches using the stitching procedures outlined above. 3.8.3 Lining. The lining shall be fully outseamed (SSa-1 seam ty

    41、pe) with 1/8 f: l/lm stitch margin and shall be securely attached at tips of fingers and thumb when inserted in the glove. The lining shall fit close to the terry cloth outer shell to avoid all bunching or wrinkling of the lining cloth. The lining shall have the fleece or napped side against the han

    42、d. 3.8.4 Attaching label. The label shall be centered on the lining of the palm side approximately 1/2 inch below glove opening and stitched on four sides using seam type SSa-1. 3.8.5 Hemming, The top of the gauntlet or cuff portion of the terry cloth and the napped lining shall be hemmed by turning

    43、 in both cloths not less than 1/2 inch and stitching through both cloths (SSc-1 seam type) not more than 3/8 inch down from top of the gauntlet or cuff. 3.9 Pairing. The gloves shall be paired and tacked together with thread, 1/2 to 1 inch from the finished top, at the closing seam of gauntlet. Tack

    44、ing shall be done with not less than two stitches using a ply thread which will permit the gloves to be pulled apart without tearing the cloth. As an alternate each pair of gloves may be tacked with a non-corrosive soft metal staple provided the gloves can be separated without damaging the cloth. 3.

    45、10 Measurements. The measurements of the finished glove shall conform to table I.
