、3.1 Material. 3.1.1 General. Materials shall be in accord- ance with applicable speoifications and draw- ings. 3.1.2 Clean scrap. Clean scrap produced in regular operations may be remelted and re- used provided it complies with the require- ments for the grade o high explosive spec- ified, except fo

、r form. Scrap from floor sweep- ings, ventilation and suction apparatus (other than from drilling operations specifi- cally controlled to prevent contamination of explosive) shall not be used (see 6.4). 3.2 Cartridges. The cartridges shall com- ply with all requirements specified on Draw- ing (dwg.)

、 7649097 and with all require- ments specified in applicable specifications. 3.3 Cavitation. 3.3.1 General. Cavities having a maximum (max.) projected dimension of 1/32 inch or less shall be disregarded provided that they are separated by inch of solid explosive. 3.3.2 Maximum projected arem and d-

、mensions of cavities. The maximum pro- jected areas and dimensions of cavities in each of the segments (see figure 1) shall be in accordance with table I. TABLE I 3.3.4 Cracks and annular vings. Cracks shall be permitted if they are no wider than 1/32 inch. The presence of annular rings inch thick,

、max., and extending from the shell wall inch into the charge shall not be cause for rejection, except in Segment C. No annular rings are permissible in Segment C. The cavity area represented by such a crack or annular ring shall not be included when determining cavity area in the charge. 3.3.5 Pipin

、g cavitzj. A piping oavity on the longitudinal axis of the projectile between the apex of the cone and the faced surface of the charge shall be permitted provided that its projected length does not exceed IV2 inches and its width does not exceed l/o inch. The projected area of such a cavity shall no

、t be dncluded when determining cavity area in the charge. 3.3.6 Surface cavitation. The maximum dimension of any visible cavity in the faced surface (see 6.6) of the charge shall not ex- ceed 3/i6 inch. Individual cavities formed due to chipped or broken explosive from the side- 2 Provided by IHSNot

The resistance shall be measured between the eyelet and ogive, The short circuit current of the test equipment shall not exceed 20 micro amperes. 4.3.3 Torque tests. The torque

、 shall be ap- pXed while holding the parts immediately ad- jacent to the joints being tested so as to avoid possible loosening of other joints. The joint under test shall be marked to provide a means for detection of any movement be- tween the adjacent parts. Any discerable movement between adjacent

、ign inspection equipment as required by the referenced Inspection Equipment Lists (IEL) in accordance with the instruc- tions of paragraphs 6.3.1 through 6.3.7. 6.3.1 Inspection equipment lists. Inspec- tion equipment lists indicate the availability of inspection equipment designs by showing in the

、“number” column of the list of inspec- tion equipment (O0 Form 1242-3) the num- bers of drawings of existing equipment de- signs or codes as indicated in paragraph 6.3.2. Design action required of the contrac- tor with respect to the different types of drawings that may be listed is described in par

、agraphs 6.3.3 and 6.3.4. Action required by the conractor with respect to commer- cial inspection equipment is described in 6.3.5. The conractor will be required to pre- pare detailed drawings in accordance with 6.3.6 for all the equipment coded as “Con- tractor Design” in the number column. These c

、ontractor designs must be approved by the Government prior to fabrication or procuring MILC-13473C (MU) of the equipment. Designs shall be submitted for approval as specified in 6.3.7. 6.3.2 Inspection equipment list codes. The inspection equipment as defined in 6.3.3, 6.3.4, 6.3.5 and 6.3.6 will be

、 designated in the IEL by the lollowing codes: CDAF - Contractors design responsi- bility on Army format in accordance with MIGD- 45608. Commercial equipment meeting the require- ments of specification control drawings may be approved if described in sufficient detail to permit identification and evaluation by the Government. Designs

、shall be submitted for approval as specified in 6.3.7. 6.3.5 Cornmerda1 equipment. Commercial equipment is inspection equipment that has universal application for a specific- function. It is comprised of items commonly used by industry and Government, Contractors are not required to furnish drawings

、 of commer-i cia1 inspection equipment, but a list of such equipment must be approved by the Govern- ment. Lists shall be submitted for approval to the inspection element of the agency ad- ministering the contract. 6.3.6 Chtractor designs. Contractor de- signs are designs of inspection equipment for

、 which the Government has assigned design responsibility to the contractor. Contractor designs shall be supported by detailed draw- ings which depict all information necessary to completely fabricate, calibrate and oper- ate an item of inspection equipment. This requires that the necessary views, di

、men- sions, materials, finish, notes,. operating and calibration instructions be properly depicted in accordance with approved practiws to the extent that further calculation or clarifica- tion will not be required. Contractor designs identified as CDCF may be developed on the format the contractor

、normally employs in his equipment design procedure provided such format reflects the detail and informa- tion specified above. Contractor designs iden- tified as CDAF shall comply with the format and requirements of MIL-D-45608, and in addition, contain the detail and information specified above. Fi

、nal approved contractor designs identified as CDCF shall be suitable for microfilming. They must be nonrepro- ducible diazo or electrostatic prints of top quality full size with black line on white background and shall provide a legible print produced via the 35MM microfilm process. Contractor shall

、 submit one copy of the final design as a rolled set or flat set. 6.3.7 Submis&crn of contructor designs. De- signs shall be submitted for approval to the Commanding Officer, Picatinny Arsenal, ATTN: SMUPA-ND. Design review will nor- mally be accomplished within one month after receipt by Picatinny

、Arsenal. Partial submission of inspection equipment designs is permissible and encouraged. However, the Arsenal completion date for design review will be based on the date of the final submis- sion of designs. 6.4 Clean scrap. Clean scrap is defined as scrap formed in kettles, pails, risers and load

、- ing machines used in pouring and cooling operations, and scrap formed in the drilling operation. 6.5 Penetration. Complete penetration is defined as a hole completely through the plate and free from obstructions. However, the lodging of a copper slug in the completed hole is not considered cause f

、or rejection. 6.6 Faced surface. The faced surface of the charge includes the bottom and sidewalls of the fuze well and the rear face of the charge. 6.7 Cost of check t,est. The contracting officer shall arrange for the contractor to be reimbursed for the expense incurred in the perfomance of the ch

、eck tests. The test shall be conducted at Govenment expense without cost to the contractor who loaded the primers or to the contractor assembling the cartridge, and shall not constitute a basis for rejection against either contractor, except where de- terioration has occurred as a direct result of carelessness in handling, storage, etc., per- 14 Provided by IHSNot for ResaleNo reproduction or networking permitted without license from IHS-,-,-MIL-C-13473C 13 B 7977906 0295366
