The source shall

19、 have sufficient amplitude stability for the duration of the primary test to permit adequate determination of discontinuities without false activation of the amplitude threshold limits. The optical source shall substantially overfill the optical fiber used in the test. Multiple sources may be requir

20、ed if several samples are to be monitored simultaneously. 3.1.2 Active devices which can be electrically operated and/or detected so as to produce a constant output amplitude can be tested with this procedure by substituting such device for the optical source or receiver. For an emitter: (a) the wav

21、elength of the test shall be that of the device, and (b) the fiber type and/or coupling method employed shall be reported. For a detector or receiver: the wavelength of the test shall be as specified in 3.1.1 (as appropriate for the detector) and shall be reported. 3.2 TRANSIENT DETECTION EQUIPMENT

22、3.2.1 OPTICAL RECEIVER 3.2.1.1 Means shall be provided to detect the optical power emanating from, or being transmitted through, the device under test, and to linearly convert this power to an electrical signal. The range of optical power over which the optical receiver output is linear shall be def

23、ined by the equipment manufacturer or the user for calibration purposes (see 4.2). It may be necessary to include an electrical or optical attenuator to compensate for variations in received optical power levels. 3.2.1.2 A detector or receiver may be used as the test sample if it meets the requireme

The rise and fall times of the detector or optical receiver shall be sufficiently short to register a discontinuity on the transient detector when the specified discontinuity is applied to the opti

Several channels may be used to monitor multiple test samples. NOTE: Circuitry designed for this purpose is frequently sensitive to EM1 (Electro-Magnetic Interference

28、) and RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) and should be designed and constructed so as to minimize interference from external events. 3.2.2.2 Means shall be provided to indicate the incidence of any discontinuity which occurs during application of the primary FOTP specified by the Detail Specificatio

Additional equipment may be used to record the number of discontinuities occurring during a test. 3.3 TRANSIENT CALIBRATOR Means shall be provided to create the specified d

33、If the test sample is an optical emitter, means shall be provided to verify that the optical signal level incident upon the optical receiver during test is within the defined receiver power range, and is the same as that used for calibration. 4.2 CALIBRFLTION REQUIREMENTS Unless otherwise specified
