18、54IEEE Standards documents are developed within the IEEE Societies and the Standards Coordinating Committees of theIEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) Standards Board. The IEEE develops its standards through a consensus develop-ment process, approved by the American National Standards Institute, wh

Volunteers are not necessarily members of the Institute and serve with-out compensation. While the IEEE administers the process and establishes rules to promote fairness in the consensus devel-op

The IEEE disclaims liability for any personal injury, property or other dam-age, of any nature whatsoever, whether spe

IEEE Standards documents are supplied “AS IS.”The existence of an IEEE Standard does not imply that there are n

When a document is more than five years old and has not been reaffirmed, it is reasonable to concludethat its contents, although still of some value, do

25、 not wholly reflect the present state of the art. Users are cautioned to checkto determine that they have the latest edition of any IEEE Standard. In publishing and making this document available, the IEEE is not suggesting or rendering professional or other services for,or on behalf of, any person o

27、nterpretations: Occasionally questions may arise regarding the meaning of portions of standards as they relate to specificapplications. When the need for interpretations is brought to the attention of IEEE, the Institute will initiate action to prepareappropriate responses. Since IEEE Standards repr

For this reason, IEEE and the members of itssocieties and Standards Coordinating Committees are not able to provide an instant response to interpret

36、king permitted without license from IHS-,-,-Introduction to IEEE P802.1Q(This introduction is not part of P802.1Q, IEEE Standards for Local and metropolitan area networks Virtual BridgedLocal Area Networks.)The MAC Bridge standardization activities that resulted in the development of IEEE Std 802.1D

37、-1993 intro-duced the concept of Filtering Services in Bridged Local Area Networks, and mechanisms whereby filteringinformation in such LANs may be acquired and held in a Filtering Database.IEEE Std 802.1D, 1998 Edition, a revision of IEEE Std 802.1D-1993, extended this concept of Filtering Ser-vice

38、s in order to define additional capabilities aimed ata) The provision of expedited traffic capabilities, to support the transmission of time-critical informa-tion in a LAN environment;b) The use of signalled priority information as the basis for identifying expedited classes of traffic;c) The provis

39、ion of filtering services that support the dynamic definition and establishment of Groupsin a LAN environment, and the filtering of frames by Bridges such that frames addressed to a partic-ular Group are forwarded only on those LAN segments that are required in order to reach membersof that Group;d)

40、 The provision of a Generic Attribute Registration Protocol (GARP) that is used to support the mech-anism for providing Group filtering capability, and is also made available for use in other attributeregistration applications. This standard, first published as IEEE Std 802.1Q-1998, makes use of the

41、concepts and mechanisms of LANBridging that were introduced by IEEE Std 802.1D, and defines additional mechanisms that allow the imple-mentation of Virtual Bridged Local Area Networks. The following are described:e) Virtual LAN Services;f) The operation of the Forwarding Process that is required;g)

42、The structure of the Filtering Database that is required;h) The nature of the protocols and procedures that are required in order to provide Virtual LANservices, including the definition of the frame formats used to represent VLAN identification infor-mation, and the procedures used in order to inse

43、rt and remove VLAN identifiers and the headers inwhich they are carried;i) The ability to support end-to-end signalling of priority information regardless of the intrinsic abilityof the underlying MAC protocols to signal priority information;j) The GARP VLAN Registration Protocol (GVRP) that allows

44、distribution and registration of VLANmembership information (the protocol described makes use of the GARP protocol defined in ISO/IEC 15802-3);k) The management services and operations that are required in order to configure and administer net-works.Copyright 2005 IEEE.
