    25、I C136.4-2003 (R2013) 3 1 SCOPE This standard covers the following equipment for roadway and area luminaries: a) Series sockets having medium impact strength and intended for service at high temperatures. b) Series sockets having high impact strength and intended for service at limited temperatures.

    26、 c) Series-socket receptacles (here in-after called the receptacles) in the 5000 V classification. 2 NORMATIVE REFERENCES This standard shall be used in conjunction with the following publications.     30、I C136.2. 5 GENERAL 5.1 Clearances and fitting dimensions for series sockets Clearances and fitting dimensions for series sockets shall be in accordance with Figure 1. 5.2 Clearances and fitting dimensions for receptacles Clearances and fitting dimensions for receptacles shall be in accordance with

    31、Figure 2. 5.3 Dimensions for series-socket and receptacle bodies Dimensions for series-socket and receptacle bodies shall be in accordance with the standard practice of the manufacturer and are shown in outline form only in Figures 1 and 2. 5.4 Current-carrying parts Current-carrying parts of series

    32、 sockets and receptacles shall be capable of carrying 20 A continuously. ANSI C136.4-2003 (R2013) 4 5.5 Metal parts All metal parts of series sockets and receptacles shall be suitable for continuous operation at 392 F (200 C). 6 SERIES SOCKETS 6.1 Features Series sockets shall be provided with the f

    33、ollowing: a) A lamp-base grip to maintain contact pressure by countering normal conditions of vibration. This grip shall not interfere with the normal insertion or removal of a lamp. b) A bumper pad of a material that will withstand a continuous operating temperature of 392 F (200 C) without disinte

    34、gration, located as shown in Figure 1. c) A short-circuiting device operated by screwing in the lamp (optional). 6.2 Socket body classification Series socket bodies shall be classified as follows: a) Medium impact strength, high temperature, the impact strength to be determined by section 8. b) High

    35、 impact strength, limited temperature, the impact strength to be determined in accordance with section 8. 6.3 Socket body operating temperatures 6.3.1 Medium impact strength, high temperature series sockets Series sockets having medium impact strength, high-temperature bodies shall withstand a conti

    36、nuous operating temperature of 392 F (200 C). (These are for general use.) 6.3.2 High impact strength, limited temperature series sockets Series sockets having high impact strength, limited temperature bodies shall withstand a continuous operating temperature of 302 F (150 C). (These are primarily f

    37、or use with open-type luminaries, with lamps of 200 W or less.) 7 RECEPTACLES 7.1 Body The receptacle body shall be of wet-process porcelain or equivalent. 7.2 Conditions of operation The conditions described in sections 5.4 and 5.5 shall apply whether or not the series socket is in the receptacle.

    38、7.3 Temperature The receptacle shall be capable of withstanding a continuous operating temperature of 392 F (200 C). ANSI C136.4-2003 (R2013) 5 7.4 Tension The receptacle contact spring tension shall be such that a load of 15-25 lbs (6.8-11.34 kg) will be required to pull from the receptacle a socke

    39、t having a 5/64 in (1.98 mm) space between faces of the socket prongs. 8 TESTS 8.1 Impact strength rating Series-socket bodies shall be tested for their impact strength rating with the testing machine shown in Figure 3. 8.2 Medium impact strength rating Series-socket bodies having a medium impact st

    40、rength rating shall withstand an impact of 3.5 inoz (0.0247 J) a 1 in (25.4 mm) steel ball dropped 1 in (38.1 mm). 8.3 High impact strength rating Series-socket bodies having a high impact strength rating shall withstand an impact of 0.671 J (95 inoz) a 1 in (38.1 mm) steel ball dropped from 12 in (

    41、304.8 mm). 8.4 Voltage tests The receptacle shall withstand the dry flashover voltage test established for the 500 V classification in ANSI C136.2. Voltage tests shall be made with the mounting plate and screws in place on the receptacle and shall be made between these and the current-carrying parts of the receptacle.
