    12、of American National Standard X3 116-1986 ) This standard presents the technique for recording ASCII in accordance with American National Standard for Information Systems - Coded Character Sets - 7-Bit American National Standard Code for Information Interchange (7-Bit ASCII), ANSI X3.4-1986, or othe

    13、r standard codes, on a 0.250 inch (6.30 mm) mag- netic tape cartridge at 6400 bpi (252 bpmm) using inverted modified frequency modulation recording techniques. It is one of a series of standards implementing ASCII in media. Related standards define more fully the physical and magnetic properties of

    14、the magnetic tape cartridge and specify a record format and labels. The X3B5 Technical Committee on Digital Magnetic Tape, which developed this standard, consists of a group of experienced and qualified specialists in the record- ing of digital information on magnetic tape. In the development of thi

    15、s standard, careful consideration was given to current practices, existing equipment and sup- plies, and the broadest possible acceptance to provide a basis for future improve- ment in the use of the medium. This standard was approved as an American National Standard by ANSI on June 30, 1986. Sugges

Scope and Purpose 1.1 Scope. Thi

    44、s American National Standard is intended to provide a format and recording stan- dard for a 0.250-inch (6.30-mm) wide, 4-track mag- netic tape in a cartridge to be used for information interchange between information processing sys- tems, communication systems, and associated equipment utilizing a s

    45、tandard code for informa- tion interchange, as agreed upon by the interchange parties. This standard refers solely to recording on the 0.250-inch (6.30-mm) magnetic tape cartridge and complements American National Standard for Information Systems - Unrecorded Magnetic Tape Cartridge for Information

    46、Interchange - 0.250 inch (6.30 mm), 6400-10000 ftpi (252-394 ftpmm) Phase Encoded, ANSI X3.127. In that related standard, the following sections are dealt with in detail: general requirements, definition, tape and cartridge, physical and magnetic requirements, speed requirements, and write enable fe

    47、ature. Compliance with ANSI X3.127 is a requirement for information interchange. Data labeling and file structure should conform to American National Standard for Information Processing - Magnetic Tape Cassette and Cartridge Labeling and File Structure for Information Interchange, ANSI/ IS0 4341-197

    48、8, in order to provide for full data inter- change between data processing systems.
