    42、lve, or a fitting approved by the pumpmanufacturer), the next fitting upstream from the fitting connected to the pump shall have the number ofpipe diameters referenced in this table between it and the fitting connected to the pump. If several fittingsare adjacent, the longest L2length requirement wi

    43、ll govern.2) Valves shall be installed such that the valve operating shafts shall be parallel to the pump shaft on the suc-tion of axially split case pumps.3) Globe valves and diaphragm valves shall not be used on the suction side of the pumps.4) For vertical in-line pumps, elbows may be located in

    44、an orientation parallel to the pump shaft within twodiameters for long-radius and three diameters for short-radius elbows.5) Length of pipe between fitting and pump may be reduced from that presented in the above table withapproval of the pump manufacturer.6) Alternative values may be used if they a

    45、re substantiated by long-term experience in a particular applicationor by a physical model study.7) The data in this table are based on commercially available fittings.8) Although special flow-straightening devices such as internal ribs, vanes, or other arrangements have beenapplied successfully, su

    47、wed fitting size, reference Figures 9.6.6.3.3b, d, f, h, and i). The velocity requirements of Section 9.6.6.3.1do not apply to this section of pipe (i.e., the L2/D2section). If several fittings are adjacent, the fitting with the longestlength requirement will govern and that length requirement shall

    48、 be applied to the most downstream fitting (refer-ence Figures 9.6.6.3.3f, g, and i). Failure to provide the minimum pipe lengths specified in Table 9.6.6.3.2 can leadto the hydraulic and mechanical issues described in the first paragraph of this section. Double suction pumps are asensitive applicat

    49、ion because an elbow in the plane of the shaft mounted on the suction flange will direct more flowto one side of the impeller than the other (see Figure 9.6.6.3.3k).
