AWWA standards describe minimum requirements and do not contain all of the engineering and administrative information normally contained in specifications.

Individual states or local agencies have authority to accept or accredit certification organizations within their jurisdictions. Accreditation of c

    19、erti- fication organizations may vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. Annex A, “Toxicology Review and Evaluation Procedures,” to NSF/ANSI 61 does not stipulate a maximum allowable level (MAL) of a contaminant for substances not regulated by a USEPA final maximum contaminant level (MCL). The MALs

    20、of an unspecified list of “unregulated contaminants” are based on toxicity testing guidelines (noncarcinogens) and risk characterization methodology (carcinogens). Use of Annex A procedures may not always be identical, depending on the certifier. ANSI/AWWA C104 does not address additives requirement

    21、s. Thus, users of this standard should consult the appropriate state or local agency having jurisdiction in order to 1. Determine additives requirements, including applicable standards. 2. Determine the status of certifications by parties offering to certify products for contact with, or treatment o

    22、f, drinking water. 3. Determine current information on product certification. II. Special Issues. II.A. Use of Seal Coat. Cementmortar linings may be provided with or without a seal coat (Sec. 4.12.1). The purchaser of cementmortar-lined pipe or fittings for use with water that is corrosive to cemen

    23、t, such as very soft water, should determine, by using the appropriate test, that a lining without a seal coat will not impart objectionable hardness or alkalinity to the water. The procedure outlined in Sec. 5.2.2.2, modified by the substitution of the water with which the pipe is to be used, is re

    24、commended. The concentration of leachates increases with the aggressiveness of the water and its residual time in the pipe and is indirectly proportional to the diameter of the pipe. II.B. Lining of Pipelines in Place. This standard does not include provisions for cementmortar lining of pipelines in place.
