However, it is offered to provide background information.ASSE standards are developed in the interest of consumer safety.The American Society of Sanitary Engineering is dedicated to the preservation of public health and safety through its guiding principle, “Prevention Rather Than Cur

    6、e.”ASSEs Standards Program systematically evaluates new technologies through formal requests and addresses the development and promulgation of performance standards designed to safeguard public health and safety.Standards for the performance of plumbing system components are considered by the Americ

    7、an Society of Sanitary Engineering to be of great value in the development of improved plumbing systems for the increased protection of public health and safety.Dielectric pipe unions are designed to prevent stray currents in piping systems. These stray currents can come from dissimilar piping mater

    8、ials or improper grounding of electrical equipment. This standard provides guidance in the construction of pipe unions that incorporate electrical insulating properties to reduce the accelerated corrosion that can result from galvanic and stray currents.Although material specifications are detailed

    9、within Section 4.1 of this standard, it is the responsibility of the manufacturer and the installer to comply with the relevant jurisdictional requirements.The working group, which developed this standard revision, was set up within the framework of the Product Standards Committee of the American So

    10、ciety of Sanitary Engineering.Recognition is made of the time volunteered by members of this working group.The standard does not imply ASSEs endorsement of a product which conforms to these requirements.Compliance with this standard does not imply acceptance by any code body.Plumbing codes mandate h

    11、ow and where these devices are installed.     20、tric Pipe UnionsASSE 1079-2012Dielectric Pipe Unions 1ASSE 1079-2012Dielectric Pipe UnionsSection I1.0 General1.1 ApplicationDielectric Pipe Unions (herein referred to as the “device”) are used to join dissimilar pipe materials to prevent the flow of galvanic current or to isolate sections of pipe f

    21、rom stray currents which could cause accelerated corrosion and premature failure of plumbing components and associated piping.1.2 Scope1.2.1 DescriptionThese devices are metallic and join metallic pipe in a similar manner to standard pipe unions and flanges, with the added ability to electrically in

    22、sulate one pipe section from another.1.2.2 Size RangeIron and copper pipe sizes inch through 6 inches (10 mm to 150 mm).1.2.3 Adapter/Transition Fitting Connections1.2.3.1 Taper pipe threads, except dryseal, shall be in compliance with ASME B1.20.1 or ASTM F1498.1.2.3.2 Dryseal pipe threads shall be

    23、 in compliance with ASME B1.20.3. 1.2.3.3 Cast copper alloy, wrought copper alloy and copper alloy solder joint connections shall comply with the dimensional requirements of ASME B16.18 or ASME B16.22.1.2.4 Pressure and TemperatureThe minimum pressure shall be 125.0 psi (861.8 kPa) at a minimum temp

Tests shall be performed in the order listed on one

    27、 (1) device of each size submitted.2.2 Samples TestedThe testing agency shall select one (1) of each size and model for the full test.2.3 DrawingsAssembly drawings and other data which are necessary to enable a testing agency to determine compliance with this standard, together with installation dra

    28、wings, shall accompany devices when submitted for examination and performance testing under this standard.2.4 RejectionFailure of one (1) device shall result in a rejection of that size or model.4 Dielectric Pipe UnionsASSE 1079-2012Section III3.0 Performance Requirements and Compliance Testing3.1 H

    29、ydrostatic Test3.1.1 PurposeThe purpose of this test is to determine if the device withstands a pressure of 250.0 psi (1723.7 kPa) or two (2) times the manufacturers maximum rated working pressure, whichever is greater.3.1.2 ProcedureThe device shall be pressurized to 250.0 psi (1723.7 kPa) or two (

    30、2) times the manufacturers maximum rated working pressure, whichever is greater. The pressure shall be held for a minimum of five (5) minutes.3.1.3 CriteriaAny indication of external leakage shall result in the rejection of the device.3.2 Dielectric Test3.2.1 PurposeThe purpose of this test is to de

    31、monstrate that the device contains electrical insulating properties between the inlet and outlet.3.2.2 ProcedureClean, by abrasion, an area on both the inlet and outlet of the device to the base material to ensure good electrical contact. With wires in contact with the cleaned areas at both the inle

    32、t and outlet of the device, connect one wire to an electrical source and the other to a micro amp meter. Apply a 600 voltage AC and measure the micro amps. Apply a 2000 voltage DC and measure the micro amps.3.2.3 CriteriaA measured micro amp above 10 at the 600 volts AC or above 3 micro amps at the

    33、2000 volts DC shall result in a rejection of the device.3.3 Deterioration at Manufacturers Extremes of Temperature andPressure Ranges Test3.3.1 PurposeThe purpose of this test is to verify that when exposed to water at the extremes of its temperature range and at its maximum rated pressure, none of

    34、the materials shall be adversely affected.3.3.2 ProcedureWater at the manufacturers maximum rated working temperature and pressure shall be circulated through the device for eight (8) hours per day for ten (10) days. At the option of the testing laboratory, the test shall be permitted to be run cont

    35、inuously for eighty (80) hours.Upon completion of the eighty (80) hours, immediately run cold water through the device. Once the device reaches 40.0 F (4.4 C), run water maintained at 40.0 F 1.0 F (4.4 C 0.6 C) through the device for one (1) hour.Dielectric Pipe Unions 5ASSE 1079-20123.3.3 CriteriaA

    36、ny indication of external leakage shall result in a rejection of the device.6 Dielectric Pipe UnionsASSE 1079-2012Section IV4.0 Detailed Requirements4.1 Materials4.1.1 Solder and fluxes containing lead in excess of 0.2% shall not be used in contact with potable water.4.1.2 Metallic materials shall m

    37、eet all of the material requirements of the applicable ASME standard.4.2 Markings4.2.1 Each device shall have the following information marked on it where it will be visible after the device has been installed:(a) Manufacturers name or trademark.(b) Pressure rating.4.2.2 The markings shall be either

    38、 cast, etched, stamped or engraved on the body of the device, or on a brass or stainless steel plate securely attached to the device by a corrosion resistant means.4.3 Installation Instructions4.3.1 Complete installation instructions shall be packaged with the device.4.3.2 Devices with sweat ends or
