、 ANSI/ASAE AD5687:1999 JAN2014 Equipment for harvesting Combine harvesters Determination and designation of grain tank capacity and unloading device performance American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers ASABE is a professional and technical organization, of members worldwide, who are

、 dedicated to advancement of engineering applicable to agricultural, food, and biological systems. ASABE Standards are consensus documents developed and adopted by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers to meet standardization needs within the scope of the Society; principally

、 agricultural field equipment, farmstead equipment, structures, soil and water resource management, turf and landscape equipment, forest engineering, food and process engineering, electric power applications, plant and animal environment, and waste management. NOTE: ASABE Standards, Engineering Prac

The ASABE assumes no responsibility for results attributable to the application of ASABE Standards, Engineering Practices, and Data. Conformity does not ensure compliance with

、 applicable ordinances, laws and regulations. Prospective users are responsible for protecting themselves against liability for infringement of patents. ASABE Standards, Engineering Practices, and Data initially approved prior to the society name change in July of 2005 are designated as “ASAE“, rega

Standards designated as “ANSI“ are American National Standards as are all ISO adoptions published by ASABE. Adoption as an American National Standard

、 requires verification by ANSI that the requirements for due process, consensus, and other criteria for approval have been met by ASABE. Consensus is established when, in the judgment of the ANSI Board of Standards Review, substantial agreement has been reached by directly and materially affected in

、terests. Substantial agreement means much more than a simple majority, but not necessarily unanimity. Consensus requires that all views and objections be considered, and that a concerted effort be made toward their resolution. CAUTION NOTICE: ASABE and ANSI standards may be revised or withdrawn at a

、entically titled ISO standard ISO 5687:1999, Equipment for harvesting Combine harvesters Determination and designation of grain tank capacity and unloading device performance. Deviations noted in the following Foreword sections pertain to those provisions where harmonization could not be achieved be

、tween ASABE and the International Standard. 0.2 This standard sets forth requirements for determining and designating grain tank capacity and the unloading device performance of combine harvesters. 0.3 Three normative references are listed in ISO 5687:1999. These references have been reviewed and ac

、cepted as part of the adoption with deviations of the ISO document in ASABE ANSI/ASAE AD5687:1999. 0.4 This standard has been approved as an American National Standard by ANSI (American National Standard Institute). The original content of ISO 5687:1999 was based on the technical content of ASAE Sta

、ndard S312, Capacity Designations and Unloading Performance for Combine Grain Tank Systems. 0.5 This standard deviates from ISO 5687:1999 as follows: 0.5.1 Under section 3, Test method, add new section 3.1, Test machine: 3.1 Test machine 3.1.1 The test combine shall be fully identified as to make, m

、odel, year, machine identification number, grain unloading system description, and other pertinent information. The terminology and methods of measurement defined by ANSI/ASAE Standard S343, Terminology for Combines and Grain Harvesting, shall be used where relevant. ANSI/ASAE AD5687:1999 JAN2014 Co

、pyright American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers 2 3.1.2 The combine should be equipped with a feed table (header) typically used to harvest the test grain (wheat) and documented as part of the machine configuration. 3.1.3 At the time of the test, both test and comparison combines s

、hall be in good working order with all working surfaces free of thick or sticky paint, rust, grease, or other impediments to smooth operation. A run-in period of minimum 3 grain tank fill and empty cycles is required to ensure this condition on a new combine, or one that has not been used recently.

、0.5.2 Renumber ISO section 3.1, Test preparations to section 3.2, Test preparations. Following sub-sections to be renumbered accordingly. 0.5.3 Replace ISO section 3.1.1 (renumbered to 3.2.1) with: 3.2.1 During the filling portion of the test, the combine harvester shall be stationary, placed horizo

、ntally on a level surface, and running at rated speeds with the feed table (header) and threshing mechanisms engaged. During the unloading portion of the test, the unloading device shall also be engaged at rated speed with the feed table (header) and threshing mechanisms previously engaged. 0.5.4 Re

、place ISO section 3.1.2 (renumbered to 3.2.2) with: 3.2.2 The wheat used for testing shall have a moisture content greater than 10% while not exceeding 17% measured in accordance with ISO 712, and a maximum impurity level of 3%, measured in accordance with ISO 7970. The mass per litre of the test wh

、eat should be no less than 0.73 kg/L and no more than 0.81 kg/L measured in accordance with ISO 7971-2. A sample of the test wheat shall be taken and the wet basis moisture content, and the impurity content, in percent by mass, and the mass per litre, in kg/L, shall be determined and recorded. 0.5.5

、 Renumber ISO section 3.2, Test procedure to section 3.3, Test procedure. Following sub-sections to be renumbered accordingly. 0.5.6 In ISO section 3.2 (renumbered to 3.3), Test procedure, remove ISO sections 3.2.2 and 3.2.3 and replace with the following: 3.3.2 Measure the unload rate using one of

、the following procedures: 3.3.2.1 Recommended procedure is to unload the combine and continuously measure weight vs. time at a minimum frequency of 5 hz. Commence unloading the test wheat from the combine harvester grain tank using the combines unloading system operating at its rated speed into a su

、itable collection area for weighing the wheat, at the same time recording the weight vs. time. The starting time is the moment when the unloading switch or lever is activated by the operator. Continue unloading for 30 seconds after the flow of wheat stops to ensure sufficient data collection. The po

、int at which the grain tank is effectively empty will be calculated in section 4.2.1. 3.3.2.2 Alternate procedure is to commence unloading the test wheat from the combine harvester grain tank using the combines unloading system operating at its rated speed into a suitable collection area for weighin

、g the wheat, at the same time noting the starting time. The starting time is the moment when the unloading switch or lever is activated by the operator. Five seconds after the start of full flow from the unloading auger divert the wheat into a second suitable collection area. After a further 30 s di

、vert the remaining wheat being unloaded into the first collection area until the flow of wheat stops when the grain tank is considered to be effectively empty. Weigh and note the mass of test wheat collected in the first and second collection areas. Note the total time. 0.5.7 Remove and replace sect

Also determine the mass per litre of the test wheat measured in accordance with ISO 7971-2. 3.1.3 To ensure that the grain tank and unloading sy

、stem are effectively empty before starting the rating tests, operate the grain unloading mechanism until the main unloading stream of grain has stopped and then continue to run the unloading system for at least one more minute before stopping. 3.2 Test procedure 3.2.1 Fill the grain tank with the test wheat by means of its own loading system up to, but not beyond, the point of spillage. 1To be published.
